Chapter 296: Chapter 396: Capturing Treecko

Chapter 396: Capturing Treecko

After a thorough thrashing, Treecko stood panting, glaring at Pikachu.

Its eyes were filled with unwillingness.

Just as Pikachu was about to use Discharge to teach it a lesson.

An elderly Treecko, leading a group of its kind, slid down the slope nearby.

The elderly Treecko slowly walked up to the young Treecko.

Seeing the elder approach, Treecko naturally picked up a twig in its mouth and asked, ’Chamo?’ (What are you doing here?)

’Chamo chamo... chamo.’ (I should be asking you. What are you still doing here?)

The elderly Treecko questioned angrily.

’Chamo chamo.’ (I’m keeping it company!)

’Chamo cha...’ (It’s already dead...)

Before the elder could finish, the young Treecko angrily pushed it away.

This action quickly drew condemnation from the other Treecko.

The elderly Treecko hurriedly raised a hand to call for a stop.

’Chamo!’ (Don’t you dare say those things!)

’Chamo chamo...’ (This tree has withered. If you don’t move to another tree soon, you won’t survive.)

The old Treecko spoke earnestly.

’Chamo chamo... chamo~’ (It’s not completely dead yet. I was born on this tree, grew up under its protection, so now it’s my turn to protect it. No matter what happens, I’ll protect it to the end!)

Treecko declared, clenching its fists.

Treecko’s words deeply moved Meowth and James, who were eavesdropping from a hiding spot not far away.

...

Meanwhile, following Ash’s directions into the forest, May had also found a Treecko she liked.

’Torchic, use Ember!’

’Chamo!’

Torchic opened its beak and spat out a stream of scorching flames.

Caught off guard, the Treecko facing it got a faceful of fire, but it quickly retaliated with a Bullet Seed.

Dududu~

A volley of green energy bullets shot forth. Torchic handled it with ease, using its chicken feet to launch a Quick Attack, dodging the onslaught and headbutting Treecko.

Treecko was sent flying back by the impact.

May seized the moment and threw a Poké Ball.

...

Seeing it couldn’t persuade the cool Treecko, the old Treecko could only shake its head helplessly and lead its group away.

After they left, the cool Treecko ignored Ash and the others, its gaze resolute as it headed towards a nearby river.

Not long after, it returned, dragging a large leaf filled with water.

Ash stopped it and asked, ’Treecko, are you trying to save this tree?’

Treecko stared at Ash for a few seconds before slowly nodding.

’In that case, let us help you. Come on out, Sharpedo.’

Ash released his only Water-type Pokémon.

’Shake~’

Sharpedo looked at Ash, confused.

’Pikachu, Eevee, Sharpedo, all use Rain Dance.’

The three Pokémon simultaneously used the Rain Dance move.

The torrential downpour gave Treecko a glimpse of what could be called hope.

But the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

After several uses of Rain Dance, a loud crack came from within the giant tree. As the sun rose, the tree split in two down the middle.

The morning sunlight streamed through the crack in the giant tree, illuminating Treecko. Through the light, the tree showed Treecko its entire life.

From a seed to a sprout, slowly growing taller, branching out with lush foliage, blooming with brilliant flowers, the flowers withering to form seeds, the seeds scattering to the earth, eventually giving rise to this thriving Forest of Treecko.

After the giant tree fell, a single seed dropped in front of Treecko.

’Treecko, the ancient tree always knew you were protecting it. Now it’s thanking you, and also saying goodbye.’ Ash paused, then continued, ’But it hasn’t truly died. It turned a once-barren plain into a forest. Now it has become a seed. One day, it will grow into a towering giant tree again.’

’Chamo~’

Upon hearing this, a flicker of excitement shone in Treecko’s eyes. It carefully buried the seed in the soil.

Then, it turned a determined gaze towards Ash, or rather, towards Pikachu.

’This guy...’ Ash understood what Treecko wanted and said, ’Treecko, what comes next is a capture battle!’

Treecko nodded, looking seriously at Pikachu.

’Alright, let’s go, Pikachu! Use Quick Attack!’

’Pika~’

Pikachu dashed forward.

Treecko’s eyes sharpened, and it spat out green energy bullets from its mouth.

’Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!’

’Chu!’

Pikachu released a bolt of lightning, blocking all the green energy bullets and giving Treecko an electric treatment.

’Chamo~’

Relying on its resistance to Electric-type moves, Treecko endured the damage and charged at Pikachu.

Closing the distance, it began swiping at Pikachu with its tail.

Seeing this, Ash smiled. ’Pikachu, use Iron Tail to launch it up.’

Understanding, Pikachu clashed tails with Treecko a few times before finding an opening and flipping it upward.

’Great, now use Thunder!’

Before it could land, Treecko received another electric treatment and promptly fell to the ground, unconscious.

Ash took the opportunity to throw a Poké Ball and capture it.

’Ding. Detected host has captured Treecko. Reward obtained: 10,000 points, Sceptile mega stone *1.’
