Chapter 255: Guardian of the Water Metropolis (1)

On the boat heading to the Water Metropolis.

Ash’s group heard a tour guide introducing the legend of Alto Mare.

He said: ”A long, long time ago, an old man and an old woman on the island of Alto Mare rescued an injured pair of siblings by the sea. Under the careful care of the two old people, the siblings’ injuries healed.”

”Suddenly, one day, evil monsters invaded the island of Alto Mare. Just as the island was about to be swallowed by the monsters, the siblings transformed into the Eon Pokémon Latios and Latias. They called out to their companions in the sky, bringing the power to drive away the dark evil.”

”It was a gem called the Soul Dew. Under the protection of this gem, the island was restored to peace.”

”It is said that that pair of Latios and Latias still guard the island of Alto Mare to this day.”

Ash looked at Gary, who was listening intently, and asked: ”Gary, you’re also here because you’ve got your eyes on Latios and Latias, right?”

”Fine, I admit it. I only came here after hearing the rumors about the Water Metropolis.”

Gary stopped hiding it and countered: ”What about you, Ash? Don’t tell me you’re here for them too?”

”Me? I’m just here to relax. To be honest, I heard about the legend of the Water Metropolis a long time ago, and we’ve even met a Latias before,” Ash said casually.

”What? You... don’t tell me you’ve already caught one?”

”What are you thinking? Latios and Latias are different from most Legendary Pokémon. They are Dragon and Psychic dual-type Legendary Pokémon. Latias can perceive a person’s heart; you can’t just catch them through battle.”

”The Latias we met had a Trainer. If you want to know who that Trainer is, you can ask Professor Oak about Patrol Officer Nurse Joy,” Ash explained.

Hearing this, Gary let out a long sigh of relief. ”Phew! If I can’t catch Latias, can’t I just catch Latios?”

Listening to Gary’s extremely naive idea, Ash didn’t intend to say anything more.

As for the Latios and Latias of the Water Metropolis, only Latias likes to disguise herself as Canon to go out. Latios does not like to go out, nor does he like to see people.

Ash didn’t believe that Gary could find the home of these two Pokémon on his own.

After a two-and-a-half-hour voyage, the boat carrying Ash’s group arrived at Alto Mare.

”Are those two statues Latios and Latias? It seems the people on this island really respect them!” Misty said.

Ash said: ”After all, this island has developed to its current glory under the protection of these two Pokémon. There seem to be quite a few activities on the island.”

”Ash, look, that seems to be a water race. Should we go participate together?”

Misty pointed to a festival event with a huge banner hanging.

”Alright.”

After getting off the boat.

The three of them headed straight to the registration point for the water race, while Gary immediately set off to search for Latias and Latios.

The race only allowed the use of Water-type Pokémon, so Ash chose Milotic, while Misty chose Corsola, which is good at running on water.

”Alright, the Pokémon water race, traditionally held during the long-awaited Alto Mare Summer Carnival, is about to begin. Who will win the glorious Alto Mare Winner’s Badge?”

As the sound of the Natu starting the countdown rang out.

All the contestants focused, pulling the tow ropes in their hands. After the Xatu’s Growl echoed, many contestants commanded their Pokémon to set off.

Ash and Misty took the lead, pulling far ahead of everyone else less than ten seconds after the start.

Since the race took place around the waterways inside Alto Mare, there were a large number of tourists standing on the banks of the waterways or on bridges to watch along the way.

Of course, the grand scale of this festival naturally attracted the attention of Latios and Latias, who had long lived in Alto Mare.

These two Pokémon hid their forms and observed along the race track.

After sensing the traces of these two Pokémon, Ash no longer had any intention of competing for the championship.

The final winner of this race was naturally Misty, who was far in the lead.

And the Alto Mare Winner’s Badge she received was a transparent plate engraved with Latios and Latias.

Meanwhile.

On several high-rise buildings in Alto Mare, drones of the same style appeared. After these drones aimed their lenses at the crowded locations, their camera heads extended.

Inside a dark room somewhere.

Two beautiful women were facing the monitors in front of them, searching for traces of the Latios siblings. These two women were the famous thieves Sanna and Leanne.

”Are they really among this crowd?”

”Doesn’t the legend say that Latios and the others can transform into human form? So they must be mixed in the crowd.”

”If only that were true!”

”Leave it to me. The body temperature of Pokémon is different from that of humans...”

In less than a few seconds, they found Latias’s whereabouts.

After confirming the location, the two of them rushed towards where Latias was.

The movements of these two were also successfully discovered by the Team Rocket Trio.

At this time, Ash’s group had arrived at a square in Alto Mare.

Ash handed a bag of crepes to Misty and said: ”Here, Misty, try this. I heard this crepe is ranked number one in Alto Mare.”

Misty took the crepes from Ash with a happy expression. ”Thank you, Ash!”

”By the way, Ash, has Serena ever mentioned to you that a Pokémon similar to Mewtwo appeared in Kalos?” Misty suddenly asked.

Ash nodded: ”She mentioned it. That should be Mewtwo No. 2 led by Giovanni.”

The contact between Ash and Serena was quite frequent, especially now that the smartphones and chat software launched by him in collaboration with major regional leagues were fully covered, the contact was even more frequent.

When reports of something similar to Mewtwo appeared in Kalos, Serena suspected that Ash had arrived in the Kalos region, but after contacting Ash, Serena learned the truth of the matter.

And based on the intelligence Serena obtained from Diantha, Ash also knew that Giovanni’s Mewtwo No. 2 had understood the principle of Mega Evolution and could achieve autonomous Mega Evolution.

”Ash, is it the one that came to challenge you to a battle last time?” Misty asked.

Ash nodded: ”It’s it. Last time, Giovanni and his Mewtwo were completely defeated, so he must have taken his Mewtwo to Kalos to find Mega Evolution.”

”I heard that he seems to have defeated quite a few powerful Trainers in Kalos, and even two of the Elite Four in the Kalos region have been defeated by him.”

”It’s fine. Even if we have another match, Giovanni is still no match for me,” Ash said confidently.

His Mewtwo has mastered two Mega Evolution forms, and he also has Rare Candy. Mewtwo’s strength has long been greatly improved compared to last time, plus the later battle with the Shinny Rayquaza, its experience has increased by 10%.

With such an overwhelming advantage, there’s no way he could lose!

Misty thought for a moment and said: ”That’s true. Ash, you have caught too many Legendary Pokémon. That Giovanni only has one Mewtwo; even if he comes again, he will end up in a sorry state.”
