Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Hmm, I understand. Dad, if I leave this city in the future, will others not know about this?”

”It’s possible, but there’s no wall that doesn’t let the wind through. So you have to learn not to care,” Shen Xueqi had come to terms over nearly two years. Regardless of whose child this is, he’s growing up by my side, and I still have the duty to care for him until adulthood.”

The next day, after Shen Xueqi went to work, he called Qian Jun.

”Can you arrange it?”

”I’ll check and call you later. It’s just the accommodation that’s a bit difficult.”

”If only Jiang Xinyu were here, I’d definitely send him to her directly.”

Qian Jun laughed, ”Yeah, you could entrust him to her.”

In the end, Qian Jun managed to arrange for Shen Hongyu to stay in the teachers’ dormitory.

”Thank you.”

”No need to thank me. When are you bringing the child over?”

”Tomorrow. I’ll take leave tomorrow to bring him over.”

At noon, Shen Xueqi specially returned home to deliver food to the child.

”Everything is arranged. You’ll stay with a teacher, making it convenient to ask questions if you don’t understand.

Hongyu, you’re grown-up now. I remembered what you told me yesterday, and I think it’s a good idea.”

”Dad, I remember, and I will study hard.”

”Good, I trust you. Tomorrow I’ll take you over, and in the afternoon, I’ll help you prepare things. Let’s eat first.”

After arranging everything for Shen Hongyu, Shen Xueqi headed to the textile factory and happened to run into Kong Mengjie, who was eager to go home to see her child.

Shen Xueqi smirked at himself, mocking his consistently poor judgment.

Looking at this woman now, he ridiculed himself for the momentary feelings he once had.

Kong Mengjie also noticed Shen Xueqi, feeling a twinge of bewilderment. Such an excellent man once pursued her, but now her life only revolves around the mundane affairs of daily life.

The two passed by each other without a stir in their hearts.

Shen Xueqi entered Qian Jun’s office.

”Is the child settled?”

”Yeah, I hope this child can work hard.

By the way, do you have Jiang Xinyu’s address?”

”Yes, here you go. Are you going to write her a letter?”

”Is there a phone number?”

”No, but she calls me every once in a while.”

”Are you really planning to transport cotton such a long distance?”

”No, Jiang Xinyu already calculated it. A classmate of hers from the National Cotton Factory ran a detailed cost analysis, and it turns out to be unrealistic.

But the factory director from over there called me, wanting the technology Yao Shimin developed. I didn’t refuse, and they also sensibly shared their technology.”

”Hmm, that’s not bad; two heads are better than one.

Is it that our people can go over?”

”No need, they’re sending someone here.” Qian Jun currently doesn’t want people to know about Jiang Xinyu having a baby.

”That’s fine. When their people return, they can take something to Jiang Xinyu.”

”No need, she said the supplies over there are much better than here. You can buy meat every day.”

”That’s really good, as long as there’s money.”

”Yeah, she has quite a bit of money at hand, definitely enough.

Staying for lunch?”

Shen Xueqi shook his head, ”I’m heading back. I’ll come by next week to see him.”

Today is Jiang Shijing’s one-month mark. Jiang Xinyu secretly took lots of photos of him.

The next morning, she fed her son fully and then expressed a bowl of milk to feed him for half a day. She planned to return home at noon.

Time swept by as it entered 1963, with just half a month left until exams and vacation.

That evening, Zhang Baozhen and Zhang Qiuming had dinner at the Jiang Family.

”By the way, do any of you know if there’s a place nearby for those who made mistakes?”

”Why are you asking?”

”My previous manager ran into some issues, but we don’t know where he is, so I’m asking. If there’s time during the holiday, I might go and ask.”

”Our head of household works at a forestry site and said there was a capable person from another place.”

Jiang Xinyu’s heart raced as she excitedly asked, ”Sister Shuping, could you call and ask what that man’s name is?”

”He’s a man around our age. How could he be your manager?”

Now Jiang Xinyu was even more excited, grabbing Zhang Shuping’s hand, ”Sister, can you call and ask for me tomorrow?

Who said a manager has to be older?”

”Alright, I’ll ask. I’ll make a call tomorrow morning, okay?”

”Sister, what time will you be at the post office tomorrow? I’ll wait for you there.”

”At nine. No matter how urgent, the post office has to be open!”

”Right, right, I’ll be there waiting for you at nine.”

For the following time, Jiang Xinyu remained absent-minded.

After seeing them off, Jiang Xinyu clasped her hands together, ”Heavens bless me. I hope it really is Wei Kaiyun.”

Then, holding her son’s hand, she clasped her hands together again.

She didn’t sleep well that night, continuously praying and hoping that person was indeed Wei Kaiyun.

After feeding the child in the morning and having breakfast, she couldn’t sit still. She was too anxious.

It was finally half-past eight, she fed her son again, put him down, and hurried out.

When she arrived at the post office, Zhang Shuping had not yet arrived.

She waited for five minutes before Zhang Shuping finally arrived.

”Xinyu, you’re really too anxious!”

Jiang Xinyu awkwardly tugged at the corner of her mouth and pressed close behind Zhang Shuping.

”Zhengli, it’s me.

Yes, I have a question for you. What’s the name of the outsider there?

Wei Kaiyun? Alright, I know now.”

”Sister, sister, can you ask brother-in-law to call Wei Kaiyun over? I want to speak with him. He’s the person I’ve been looking for.”

”Zhengli, can you ask Wei Kaiyun to take the phone? There’s someone here who knows him. Okay, I’ll call again in ten minutes.”

Tears couldn’t stop falling from Jiang Xinyu’s eyes, no matter how much she tried to wipe them.

”Xinyu, what’s wrong?”

”Sister, thank you so much. You’re my savior. This man is the one I’ve been searching for. It’s been a year without news.” Jiang Xinyu stammered as she expressed her gratitude to Zhang Shuping.

She dared not slow down, fearing what she heard was just an illusion. She constantly checked the time, and finally, those agonizing ten minutes passed. She looked at Zhang Shuping with pleading eyes.

The phone rang again, and Jiang Xinyu’s trembling hands almost couldn’t hold the receiver.

”Hello! Who is this?” Wei Kaiyun was equally surprised. Someone here knows him?

”Hello, who is this?”

Upon hearing the voice she’d been longing for, Jiang Xinyu’s tears fell uncontrollably. Even in suppression, her sobs reached Wei Kaiyun’s ears.

”Xinyu? Xinyu!”

”Hmm, it’s me.”

”Xinyu, how did you end up here? Xinyu?” Wei Kaiyun was tremendously excited, his voice even changing in pitch.
