Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Jiang Xinyu finished speaking and smiled, she really didn’t want to.

She somewhat understood now, if she really got involved, there would be big trouble in the future, that’s how it seemed from Wei Kaiyun’s situation.

”Alright, it’s good that you disagree. Wife, are you planning to go to university?”

”I have that thought, but I’m not specific about what to do.

If I really go to university, should I resign?”

”What’s wrong? You don’t want to work anymore?”

”Not exactly, if I go to university, I certainly have to resign, right?”

”Not necessarily, the textile factory also cultivates talent.”

”I’ve said before, I don’t want to take up the factory’s quota.”

”It’s the same if you get in on your own, you can write an application.”

”We’ll see then. I think being free is better.”

”Haha, whatever you choose is fine.” Wei Kaiyun absolutely supported his wife’s decision.

In the evening, they still made dumplings, seafood ones, which Wei Kaiyun liked to eat.

”Wife, why don’t we go back and register?”

”When does the civil affairs office start work?”

”By the sixteenth they’re at work.”

”Alright, I’m fine with whatever.”

The matter was agreed upon by both of them, and on the morning of the sixth, Jiang Xinyu wanted to get up but was entangled by Wei Kaiyun.

After some fuss, only then did they get up, and breakfast was skipped.

Suddenly they heard forceful knocking on the door, Wei Kaiyun frowned ”You go inside, I’ll check.”

”Director Wei, a few people are looking for you, asking for an immediate response.” Lu Weiqi said urgently.

”Got it, I’m on my way.”

Wei Kaiyun came in and went to the side room to pull out his bicycle.

”Wife, it’s Secretary Lu, someone is looking for me, I’m going to take a look.”

Jiang Xinyu gave him a worried glance ”Is it serious?”

Wei Kaiyun shook his head ”I don’t know either, I’ll check it out, you stay home.”

After Wei Kaiyun left, Jiang Xinyu couldn’t suppress the fear in her heart, she felt restless. What was happening?

It was past noon and still no return, seeing the food on the table, she had no appetite. No, she had to go out and see.

Jiang Xinyu got dressed, tightly wrapped, and walked to the gate of the textile factory.

”Comrade, I’m looking for Secretary Lu.”

”Secretary Lu left in the morning and hasn’t come back yet.”

”Thank you.”

Lu Weiqi wasn’t there, meaning he went out with Wei Kaiyun. Where could they have gone? Jiang Xinyu felt like a headless fly, completely clueless.

Anxiously returning home, the door was still locked, and Wei Kaiyun didn’t return at all. What should she do?

Back home, sitting on the kang waiting, fear overwhelmed her.

Until evening, he still hadn’t returned. She constantly comforted herself that Wei Kaiyun had something to handle and was being held up.

It was nine at night, and he still hadn’t returned, but she truly had no idea how to find him.

She lay under the covers, feeling dizzy, half asleep by midnight.

Suddenly waking at five in the morning, as the past few days they had always slept together, last night being alone felt cold and unaccustomed.

Upon getting up, she saw the stove had gone out, so she lit it again, drank a bag of milk, and then went to the textile factory again.

”Comrade, did Secretary Lu come to work yet?”

”Not yet, comrade, if you have issues, just wait for a while, Secretary Lu usually starts work at seven-thirty.”

Jiang Xinyu thanked them for their kindness and waited nearby.

But it reached eight-thirty, and no one passed by the door from the early or night shift. Waited another one and a half hours, it was already ten in the morning.

Jiang Xinyu circled to the gate ”Comrade, if Secretary Lu comes, tell him Xiao Jiang is looking for him, ask him to find me.”

”Alright, I’ll certainly relay this.”

Jiang Xinyu hurried back home, hoping Wei Kaiyun had returned.

But the gate was still locked from outside. What on earth was going on? How could a living person be gone and nowhere to be found?

By evening, he still hadn’t returned. Jiang Xinyu had only drunk a bag of milk in the morning and felt no hunger.

The house wasn’t warm, and the kang wasn’t heated. She had no choice but to boil water and heat the kang.

Every morning she went to the textile factory to wait for Lu Weiqi, but there was no news.

It wasn’t until the fifteenth of the first lunar month, six days had passed.

Jiang Xinyu felt it couldn’t go on like this. But remembered Wei Kaiyun’s instructions before he left to stay at home.

Outside at night, there were still sounds of firecrackers, the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth of the first lunar month, which was a traditional festival everyone valued.

The next day, she again went to the textile factory’s gate to inquire.

”Comrade, yesterday Secretary Lu’s family also came looking for him, it was quite a commotion, Secretary Lu hasn’t returned home either.”

Jiang Xinyu returned home distraught, these two must be together.

Back home, she suddenly felt uneasy, gathering all her belongings and food. Something definitely happened, otherwise, even if it were urgent, Wei Kaiyun would find a way to notify her. It’s been a week, he must be unable to send any message at all. But she dared not leave here, had to wait for him here.

Another week passed, the weight she had gained was lost again because she had no appetite for eating.

The two had disappeared into thin air, no news at all.

Another week passed, the first month had ended, still no news.

Meanwhile, Wei Kaiyun was also extremely anxious.

He and Lu Weiqi were locked together, sitting in a corner of the wall.

”You should be able to get out soon, tell her to go back, and don’t tell her about my situation.” Wei Kaiyun quietly instructed Lu Weiqi.

He gently nodded, knowing nothing at all. The questions they’d been asked, he’d never heard of them, Wei Kai must have been protecting him all along.

They reckoned it had been a month since, now the ninth day of the second month.

Today they were taken out together. Among the people coming, Lu Weiqi didn’t recognize any.

”Wei Kaiyun, got a strong mouth, huh?”

”Leader, I really don’t know what you are asking.”

”Hehe, do you think by saying nothing I can’t do anything?

No worries, since you say nothing, I don’t want to know. Here’s the result for you, Wei Kaiyun, take a look, satisfied?” He laughed heartily afterwards.

Lu Weiqi stood beside with head down, waiting for the outcome.

After Wei Kaiyun finished reading the paper, ”Yes, I will absolutely comply with the superior’s arrangement, when do I depart?

And how is my work here arranged?”

”That’s not something you should worry about, someone will soon take you.”

Wei Kaiyun knew clearly, he couldn’t even see his wife once more. Maybe it’s better this way, if that girl saw him injured, she would feel very upset.
