Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

In the office, there wasn’t even time for a sip of water the entire morning.

After lunch, just as Jiang Xinyu was about to take a break, Qian Jun knocked on the door and came in.

”Director Jiang, there’s a call from the Management Bureau.”

”Mr. Qian?”

”The Provincial Textile Factory wants to transfer you there as the Vice Factory Director.”

”Vice Factory Director? Isn’t that Tian Mingyan?”

”She got into some trouble, was caught, and has been demoted now.”

”Do you know what happened?”

Qian Jun felt a bit awkward. Talking about such things with a young girl wasn’t easy for him.

”Can’t say? Or don’t know?”

”Neither. Tian Mingyan was caught having an affair with a workshop director in the office.”

”Just because of this?”

”Yes, the impact was very bad, a lot of people saw it, couldn’t be covered up.”

Jiang Xinyu took a sip of her tea, ”Mr. Qian, have you heard anything about Director Wei’s situation?”

”No. Why does it matter?”

Jiang Xinyu was stunned for a moment, then gave a slight smile, ”I just feel this Provincial Textile Factory is really a place full of troublemakers, Director Yuan, Director Wei, and now Vice Factory Director Tian.”

”Director Jiang, you’re overthinking it.”

”Mr. Qian, let me think about it.”

”Director Jiang, I hope you give it serious consideration.”

”Hmm, I will. I can refuse, right?”

”Yes.”

”Hmm, I have exams the day after tomorrow. Can I give you an answer in four days?”

”Sure. Is it the college entrance exam?”

”Yes.”

”How’s your preparation going?”

”Not too bad, I guess.”

”Where are you planning to apply?”

”I’ve applied to several universities, but it’s better to wait for the results before deciding.”

”Okay, I’ll take you to the city after work today. Rest well tonight, don’t be exhausted tomorrow.”

Jiang Xinyu thought about it and didn’t refuse. ”Thank you, Mr. Qian.”

”If you get into a university, you’ll have a good excuse to refuse the Management Bureau’s reassignment. You can keep your ties with the Textile Factory, and you’ll still get paid monthly.”

”Hmm, I’ll pack some things after work and trouble you to pick me up at home, Mr. Qian.”

Jiang Xinyu remained busy in the afternoon, Song Qingqing and Pan Xiulan knew she had exams the next day, and each gave her a pen as a gift.

”Director Jiang, I’m sure you’ll perform outstandingly and get into university.

I wanted to go to university too, but didn’t get in.”

Jiang Xinyu smiled and nodded, ”I will do my best.”

She didn’t feel too nervous about this exam, given that she had gotten into university before.

At home, Jiang Xinyu packed two dresses, two shirts, and toiletries. She also took a few canned goods.

Qian Jun came over, and they got into the car together.

”Director Jiang, you seem very calm.” Qian Jun tried to ease Jiang Xinyu’s stress.

”Not bad, I feel my preparation was adequate, even though I only took a preliminary exam once, my scores were okay. As long as it’s not a top-notch university, I think I should get in.”

”Haha, that’s good. You won’t be transferring your ties, will you?”

”I haven’t thought about that yet.”

”Getting through university will cost quite a bit over four years, and even if you’ve saved a lot over time, without income it won’t be feasible. If you keep your ties with the Textile Factory, you at least have a regular salary.”

”Hmm, then I’ll stay with the Textile Factory.”

Qian Jun stopped in front of a restaurant, and they each had a bowl of sweet potato noodles. Then he dropped Jiang Xinyu at the inn, got her settled, and left.

The two days of exams left Jiang Xinyu exhausted.

”Xinyu, how did it go?”

”Here are all my answers.”

”Xinyu, are you not going back to work? We need to estimate scores tomorrow.”

”I’m not going back. Xiao Jing, Xiao Ying, I need to go back and rest, I’m very tired.”

The two of them realized Jiang Xinyu was not in great shape.

”Why don’t you come to my house for dinner tonight?” Zhou Qingying asked.

”No, I’m going home to sleep, you two should go rest too.”

Jiang Xinyu returned to her room, washed up briefly, drank a bag of milk, ate a sausage, and lay flat on the bed communicating with the baby.

When she woke up, it was already six in the evening.

Feeling a lot better, she washed up, had another bag of milk, and ate some bread.

At eight, Jiang Xinyu went to the classroom. The teachers had already written the answers on the front and back blackboards.

Jiang Xinyu sat in her seat, checking the answers one by one for each subject.

Finally, she summed it up; her score seemed to be around 530 out of 600, which is quite average, right?

The head teacher came up to the podium an hour later.

They talked about the scores, and Jiang Xinyu found out her scores were quite good.

Then it was time to choose her preferred universities. Jiang Xinyu filled out five options: Capital University of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, another industrial university in the province, the teacher let her choose one in the west, and the last one was a provincial normal university.

”Your results will be out on July 28th, come to the school to check them.”

At noon, Jiang Xinyu refused Qiao Jingyi and her friends, checked out, and took a bus home.

She washed up, ate, and went to sleep after getting home. She didn’t wake up until after one in the morning from that sleep.

She got some rice, stir-fried carrot with meat, and braised beef, ate until she was full, and sat in the courtyard digesting.

The late night was rather cool. Looking at the moon in the sky, she wondered how Wei Kaiyun was doing. If he were in the Provincial Capital, she would definitely go, but now, what was the point of going?

Besides, she hadn’t said anything untrue; the Provincial Textile Factory was indeed chaotic, any small disturbance first affected that place.

Moreover, she didn’t know if she could get into university.

Being pregnant out of wedlock, she wasn’t sure if she’d pass the political examination. So, she decided to take one step at a time. Thinking about it now was useless.

She went to work the next day after having breakfast. Jiang Xinyu had just sat down when Qian Jun came in.

”How did it go?”

”Around 530, should be able to get in. But I doubt I can pass the political exam.”

”Why?”

Jiang Xinyu didn’t want to discuss it, ”Mr. Qian, please help me refuse the Management Bureau’s offer, I don’t want to go to the province.”

”Sure, I’ll make a call later. Have you thought it through?”

”Yes, I’ve made up my mind.”

Qian Jun didn’t know what was going on with Jiang Xinyu. Although she wasn’t a national model worker, she was at the provincial level, so her political review shouldn’t be an issue. He couldn’t figure out what she was worried about.

Jiang Xinyu’s belly was getting bigger, already five months along. Her shirt was hardly able to conceal it.

She was becoming increasingly silent, making everyone around her very worried.

”Director Jiang, you’ve really put on weight,” Song Qingqing said, frowning as she ate.

”Yeah, I think Director Jiang has indeed gained a lot.”

But when they saw Jiang Xinyu’s reddened eyes, they were too scared to speak. What on earth was going on with Director Jiang?
