Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Jiang Xinyu, don’t say things like this in the future.”

”Is this not okay either?”

”No, it’s not. Just be yourself and don’t look for trouble.”

Qian Jun looked at Jiang Xinyu with a furrowed brow. He knew her as someone who was very kind to friends, as evident from the secretaries and Wang Ailing.

But acting like this towards Wei Kaiyun could really cause trouble. Even if he knew Wei Kaiyun’s address, he wouldn’t tell her.

”Mr. Qian, I’m begging you here, I know you definitely can find out where Director Wei is, please help me get the address. Even though it’s far, I can’t go there, but I can send him some things.”

”Jiang Xinyu, even if you send things, he won’t receive them. I’ve told you, he could implicate you.”

”What could he implicate me in? We don’t work together, we barely interact, what implication could there be? Without Director Wei, I wouldn’t be where I am now. People shouldn’t be like this.”

”Alright, I’ll help you. Wait for my news. But don’t get your hopes up too high.

Okay, I’m leaving. You should rest, you look so thin.”

”Thank you, Mr. Qian, I know you can do it.”

After seeing Qian Jun off, Jiang Xinyu walked back inside, tears falling.

Considering what Qian Jun said, one can imagine Wei Kaiyun’s situation. What to do? What should she do? Where exactly is he?

After crying for a while, she suddenly sat up, realizing she couldn’t be like this. Maybe Wei Kaiyun is still waiting for her to save him, she has to be strong.

She boiled water for a bath, then lay in bed, determined to take good care of her body.

Since it’s the Revolutionary Committee arranging with Qian Jun, it must be the Provincial City’s Revolutionary Committee that took Wei Kaiyun away. But she doesn’t know anyone from there. She didn’t know Wei Kaiyun’s friends before, even if she did, they’d be hiding now, right?

She needs to think hard about what to do and can’t just rely on Qian Jun.

She didn’t sleep well all night, and the next day at work she felt a bit out of sorts.

Qian Jun frowned looking at her, ”You make me regret telling you.”

”Mr. Qian, I’ll be fine tomorrow, it’s just this news was hard to take.”

After lunch, she called She Xiaoyun.

”Sister She, are you about to give birth?”

”Yes, in about ten days or so. Are you back?”

”Yes, I’ll come to see you after work today.”

”Great, I’ve been craving canned food.”

”No problem, I’ll bring you five jars, is that enough?”

”That’s plenty.”

After work, she packed up some canned goods and went to the supply store.

”Sister She, your belly is so big.”

”Xinyu, you’ve gotten so thin.”

Both spoke at the same time, both shocked.

”Sister She, don’t ask, I don’t want to talk about it, I’m not lying.”

She Xiaoyun looked at Jiang Xinyu with surprise and noticed the sadness in her expression.

”Xinyu?”

”Sis, I’m okay, when are you taking leave? Who will help during your confinement?”

”My mom will take care of me during confinement, don’t worry about me, you need to take care of yourself.”

”I know, don’t worry about me.

I brought canned food, anything else you’d like to eat?”

”I’ve been wanting bread.”

”No problem, I’ll make some dough when I get home and bring you some after work tomorrow evening. Anything else?”

”I’ve been craving meat, but it’s really hard to get.”

”Sister She, I can’t help with that either.”

”It’s okay, my mom is coming over this Sunday, she’ll definitely bring me chicken, that’s meat too.”

”Yeah, chicken is also meat.”

Jiang Xinyu went home, kneaded two large basins of dough the night before, and saw it rise the next morning before steaming it and heading to work.

After finishing the morning meeting, before she could drink a sip of water, the phone rang.

”Jiang Xinyu, why didn’t you notify us when you returned?”

”Secretary Hao, I’m planning to have a gathering on Saturday.”

”Alright, Saturday works. I’ll inform everyone else.”

The whole day was busy, after work she delivered some bread to She Xiaoyun and Wang Ailing, thinking that the taste for these two pregnant women should be similar.

”Xinyu, come in for dinner.”

”No thanks, sis, I’ll head back.”

”Come in quickly.”

Jiang Xinyu had no choice, pushed her bike into the yard, and saw the two elders.

”Xinyu, these are my in-laws.”

Jiang Xinyu smiled and greeted them. The elders returned her greeting with smiles, inviting her to eat.

”Sis, this is an interesting taste, but the pickles are really good.”

”Right? Just mixed with chili sauce and vinegar.

Xinyu, my mom has planted peppers in your yard this year, and also in our backyard. This should be enough, right?”

”Sure, when garlic is harvested in June, I’ll buy a hundred pounds to keep.”

”Buying a lot now isn’t cost-effective, better wait until it’s dried.”

”Sis, you’re really good at managing things.”

After Jiang Xinyu left, the two elders watched their daughter-in-law eating big loaves again. She really has a great appetite.

”Dad, Mom, you should eat some too. Eating more won’t upset you.”

The two elders couldn’t refuse. Each ate half a loaf, tastier than the ones their son brought last time.

The girl earlier was so kind to the daughter-in-law.

Time passed until Friday night, she lazily lay in bed knowing in another ten days there’d be midterm exams. Fortunately, she’d been reading often during that time.

Despite cramming last minute, she managed to read some books, but still felt sleepy holding them.

On Saturday, she woke up and it was already eight o’clock. She couldn’t believe her good mood, having finally gotten over things. Even her appetite and sleep had improved.

Spent the morning reading at home, at 10:40 she tidied up and went to the restaurant.

Only She Xiaoyun didn’t come, since she was about to give birth.

Guodong and Jing Chu, the two kids, greeted Jiang Xinyu happily.

”Jiang Xinyu, what’s happened to you? You look thinner again?” Lv Beiguang frowned and asked.

”Don’t ask me that or about the vacation.”

With her words, everyone looked at her.

”Just treat me to a meal and help me gain back the weight.” Jiang Xinyu smiled and said.

”Alright, we’ll treat you every week.”

”No need, let’s talk after my exams. I’ve got to study hard during this time.”

Ding Shihong came in laughing, purposely bringing to Jiang Xinyu a plate of braised pig’s trotters.

”Brother Ding knows how to treat people.”

”Of course, my sister is so thin, I have to help her gain weight. Eat up, none for them.”

In the end, Jiang Xinyu shared it with the two kids.

On Sunday, she continued working, wanting to save her vacation days. If there’s news about Wei Kaiyun, she would go see him, so she’d work every weekend.
