Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

The neighbors around knew she was here for university and was a worker, so they were really enthusiastic towards her.

Jiang Xinyu also accepted their kindness, after all, she came here alone, and she must get along well with the neighbors.

On the afternoon of the 29th, Wang Qing brought Bai Hongying over.

The three of them sat in the yard, ”Aunt Wang, Aunt Bai, let’s be direct about our matters. I don’t really know how much the wages are here, Aunt Wang, how much do you think is appropriate monthly in this situation?”

”You provide food and lodging, just ten yuan a month will do.”

”Alright, ten yuan it is, but I have requirements too. Right now, Aunt Bai is responsible for taking care of me. After the child is born, I still need to continue school, so you’ll be responsible for looking after the child.

I’m very concerned about the child, so you must be very dedicated to the child.”

”Xiao Jiang’s requests are not excessive, they indeed should be this way.”

”Xiao Jiang, rest assured, I raised my two daughters by myself. I can’t say I have extensive experience in raising children, but I can definitely take good care of the child.

Both my daughters’ postpartum periods were also taken care of by me. You can trust me on this.

Also, I’m very clean, and I think this is why you chose me.”

”Yes, Aunt Bai, you are right. I value your cleanliness.”

”Since both of you have made things clear, then it’s decided.

Xiao Jiang, rest assured, Bai Hongying’s home is nearby, you can visit when you have time, you can safely entrust your child to her.”

”Mm, that would be best. My husband is not here, it’s just me with the child. Maybe in the future due to the child, I might become irritable. I hope Aunt Bai you can understand.”

”I can understand, regarding children, we can discuss and if you’re wrong, I’ll tell you.”

”Thank you for understanding, let’s work together to raise the child well.”

Since everything was discussed and settled, she could start coming over from tomorrow.

Initially, Jiang Xinyu wanted to wait until after the child was born, but thinking about not being familiar by then, it was better to hire someone to take care of her in advance, this also allowed her to observe the person’s character.

The next day, Bai Hongying came over, bringing her own luggage and supplies.

She really couldn’t stay idle, saw things to do, and organized all the things Jiang Xinyu had bought, inwardly amazed, thinking this must be a wealthy family, judging from the food preparations. For lunch, she made spicy noodles for Jiang Xinyu.

Jiang Xinyu only ate a few bites, they indeed put less, but she still couldn’t eat it, it was too spicy.

”Aunt Bai, in the future, you just eat spicy food yourself, I really can’t handle it.”

”Alright, I’ll pay attention next time. My husband is from the North, I know how to cook Northern food.”

This made Jiang Xinyu feel more at ease. She could handle having heavy flavors occasionally, but three times a day would be unbearable.

”Aunt Bai, here are the family’s ration tickets, and this is ten yuan, buy what you see fit, I trust you.”

”Xiao Jiang, rest assured, I won’t betray your trust.”

For dinner, there was millet porridge and potato slices.

On September 1st, Bai Hongying made cold noodles and diced potatoes with sauce. Jiang Xinyu got up early, put on her new clothes (the old ones didn’t fit anymore), checked her things, and walked to school.

She saw many people already; the university didn’t start today, today was registration, and classes started on the tenth. These ten days were for students to meet professors, classmates, and adapt to the environment.

Jiang Xinyu strolled into the school gate, her belly already very noticeable, attracting a lot of attention.

She was stopped by a few young men at the gate, ”Comrade, outsiders are not allowed in the school.”

”Hello, I’m a student, here is my admission notice, I’m here to register for school.”

A particularly sunny-looking male student awkwardly scratched his head, ”Sorry, Jiang.”

”It’s okay, I understand, can I go in now?”

”Yes, you’re in the Management major, just follow the path straight ahead, their registration is in front of the teaching building.”

Jiang Xinyu thanked them again. It took her less than ten minutes to find the registration point for the Management major.

She queued up at the end and moved forward slowly with the crowd.

The sun was shining, and it got hotter. After more than forty minutes, it was finally Jiang Xinyu’s turn, not because there were too many people or anyone cutting in line, but because the process was rather cumbersome.

The registration was handled by a sophomore student, a female student who looked at Jiang Xinyu’s admission notice and found her name on the list.

”Your file doesn’t have a record of your pregnancy.”

”I came directly from my work position, at the time, I didn’t notify the Textile Factory either.”

”Oh, let me note that for you.”

”Thank you, classmate.”

”The accommodation fee is three yuan per semester.”

”Classmate, I don’t need accommodation, I live five minutes away from school.”

”Did you transfer your food supply relationship to the school?”

”Classmate, I only eat one meal a day at school, or not at all. I’m not sure if it’s necessary to transfer it.”

”It’s more convenient to transfer; you’ll have a meal card, can swipe for meals, and if you don’t eat, it accumulates to next month.”

”Thank you for explaining.” Jiang Xinyu sincerely thanked her.

”You’re in the Management Class 3 of the ’62 cohort, you can go to the classroom now.”

Jiang Xinyu checked her paperwork, there were no mistakes, and she received her student ID and meal card.

Management Class 3 was at the far end of the first floor. After entering the classroom, she sat at the back; there were already twenty to thirty people inside.

More people came in gradually, and by ten o’clock, the counselor came in and introduced himself; he was a young man in his twenties with glasses, and from his accent, he was from the S Province area.

”Hello, everyone, I am your counselor, Zhang Xinghua. Let’s work together in the future.”

Then the classmates introduced themselves one by one; this class mostly consisted of factory leaders, making Jiang Xinyu feel that her position was lower.

When it was Jiang Xinyu’s turn, ”Hello, everyone, I am Jiang Xinyu, the Office Director of T City Textile Factory in H Province. It’s my honor to be with everyone here.”

”Jiang, you’re not very old, are you?” a cheerful female comrade in front turned around and asked with a smile.

”I am eighteen this year.”

”You really are young, becoming an office director at your age is truly remarkable.” This was a sincere compliment.

Jiang Xinyu smiled, knowing now wasn’t the time to hide her abilities, ”I personally don’t have much capability, it’s just that I can understand Russian, during the three years of hardship there, they sent me to Russia, and after two visits, I was promoted.”
