Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Lu Weiqi, you can go back. After our investigation, you are a good comrade. You can continue working, but you should know what you can say and what you shouldn’t.”

”Yes.”

Lu Weiqi was taken away, and now only Wei Kaiyun was left.

”Is it worth it? You’ve already got problems above. Are you still holding on?”

Wei Kaiyun remained expressionless; now was really not the time for him to speak. Thinking about how he had wronged that girl, he hated himself for ever getting close to her, realizing he couldn’t offer her anything now. What would happen to her in the future?

”Wei Kaiyun, truly admirable. Fine, if you won’t speak, then leave. Our people will personally escort you for reformation, but I’ll still leave you an opportunity. Whenever you want to talk, come directly to me, and I can still let you out.”

Seeing him being unmoved, a few people here left with a flick of their sleeves.

Wei Kaiyun was taken away. He dared not look outside the entire time.

Lu Weiqi, blindfolded, was brought out. It felt like the car had been driving for half an hour before they finally let him go.

”Get off the car. Remember, if any word gets out, you should know the consequences.”

”Yes.” ”Take off the blindfold and leave.” With that, they threw his bicycle down too.

Lu Weiqi took off the blindfold, seeing a jeep driving away. He looked around and realized he was in an alley behind a building. He hurriedly picked up the bike from the ground and rode home.

Entering home, it was filled with the sound of crying, ”Xiao Qi, where have you been this past month, why have you lost so much weight?”

”Mom, please don’t ask. This can’t be talked about. I’m back now, it’s alright.

I still have somewhere to go. I’ll be back shortly.”

”Where else are you going?”

”Mom, don’t worry, I’m okay.” With that, he went back into the room to change clothes. He left on his bike.

Jiang Xinyu heard knocking at the door while inside, thinking it was her imagination, but indeed someone was knocking. She ran out without even wearing shoes.

”Secretary Lu, where is Wei Kaiyun?” Seeing only Lu Weiqi outside, she trembled as she asked.

”Director Jiang, you must leave quickly. Director Wei and I were separated today.”

”Come in, let’s talk inside.”

”No, I can’t, I’m afraid someone is watching me. Director Wei instructed you to leave quickly, and he is fine now.”

”Then where is he?”

”I don’t know. None of us said anything. They just gave Director Wei a piece of paper and then I was sent out. He was probably taken away too.

Director Jiang, I have to leave, you must go quickly.”

Lu Weiqi turned and left immediately. Then he felt this was not right, so he went to a few friends’ homes, said a few simple words at the door, and then rode to the textile factory.

”Secretary Lu, where have you been? Your family couldn’t find you, and a girl has been looking for you often.”

”Thank you, I’m going to see the director.”

”Hmm, a new director has arrived at our factory.”

Lu Weiqi nodded and went directly to his office. He saw a male comrade sitting in his seat.

”Who are you?”

”I’m the former Director Wei’s secretary; I’m here to report to the director.”

”Hello, I’m Chen Xianliang, Secretary to Director Ding Mingqiang.”

The two shook hands. ”Secretary Lu, wait, I’ll check if Director Ding is available.”

Lu Weiqi smiled and nodded, waiting at the door.

”Secretary Lu, Director Ding asks you to come in.”

Lu Weiqi nodded and entered the director’s office.

”Director Ding, I’m the former director Wei’s secretary, Lu Weiqi.”

Ding Mingqiang glanced at the emaciated Lu Weiqi; this person wasn’t an issue.

”Hmm, I already have a secretary now. If you wish, you can work at the labor union.”

”Thank you, Director Ding, I’ll go report now.”

Ding Mingqiang nodded, watching Lu Weiqi leave.

Jiang Xinyu watched Lu Weiqi leave, only realizing how thin he was now, recalling his protruding cheekbones seen earlier, imagining how he must have lived this past month.

She closed the door and returned inside, sitting on the bed, recalling Lu Weiqi’s words. So, it was Wei Kaiyun who had gotten into trouble, but how could this happen?

Could the contention above have been lost? That seems to be the only explanation; otherwise, with Wei Kaiyun’s character, other mistakes simply wouldn’t occur.

He asked her to leave, but she didn’t even know where he was now. Remembering the fear on Lu Weiqi’s face earlier, she knew asking him would yield no answers.

Lu Weiqi being released means he truly does not know anything.

What to do? How to learn about Wei Kaiyun’s situation?

Qian Jun, yes, there’s Qian Jun. From Wei Kaiyun’s hint, they are under one leadership, so how is he now?

Thinking of this, Jiang Xinyu put on a coat and left the house straight away.

She went to the post office and dialed Qian Jun’s office phone.

”Director Jiang, when are you coming back?” Song Qingqing asked with a smile.

”Within a week I should be back. By the way, where is Mr. Qian?”

”He went to the workshop.”

”Oh, alright then, I should be getting on the train.”

Jiang Xinyu hung up the phone and returned home, pondering why Qian Jun was fine.

No, she must return immediately. She only knows this one person, and if Qian Jun doesn’t know, she really has no other options.

She tidied up the house, locked the door, stood at the front door, and resolutely headed to the train station. As long as Wei Kaiyun is alive, there’s hope.

She bought a train ticket for the 3 PM train, not even thinking about getting a sleeper ticket.

She got on the train in a daze with the crowd, but suddenly the smell from the carriage made her nauseous; after all, she hadn’t eaten all day.

Feeling dizzy too, she squeezed in front of the steward in the crowd.

”Comrade, is it possible to change the ticket? I’d like to buy a sleeper ticket.”

This was a female comrade appearing in her forties, looking at Jiang Xinyu’s small, pale face.

”Comrade, that’s not possible.”

”Steward, I’m the office director of T City Textile Factory, I’m feeling very unwell, and there’s no seat, I’m afraid I can’t hold on, please do me a favor.”

”Alright, hold on for a while, I’ll go ask.”

Jiang Xinyu leaned to the side, waiting.

”Comrade, it’s possible, but you must pay five yuan.”

”Okay, thank you so much.” Jiang Xinyu reached for money, the steward left again, ”Wait here, I’ll tear the ticket for you.”

Jiang Xinyu followed her into the sleeper carriage.

There were already three people in the room, all male comrades. Jiang Xinyu didn’t mind, directly putting her bag on her bunk, then climbed up.

Took out a bedsheet to lay down, then took off her coat to cover herself, lying down.

Swaying back and forth, she was half-asleep.
