Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 191: 191 Return Trip

After she left, the remaining twelve people still did not move.

Wu Hongyu suddenly cursed, ”Damn it, a group of us grown men actually let a girl negotiate outside. When I was in the meeting, I bragged shamelessly, saying I would protect Director Jiang.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Xueqi wiped his face, ”Yeah, I’ve said ’leave everything to me’ more than once, and the result is...”

Jiang Xinyu returned to her room, immediately found some fever-reducing medication and took it. Her stomach felt uncomfortable, so she brewed a cup of malted milk, and then lay down, falling into a groggy sleep.

Dinner was when Shen Xueqi came over to call her.

”Leader, I have no appetite, you guys eat,” she said.

”No, you must eat some porridge. Quickly, even if it’s just one bowl, you have to eat.”

Jiang Xinyu knew she should do as she was told, but her whole body was aching, and she really didn’t want to move. Still, she forced herself to get up, enduring the discomfort.

She shivered a bit, took a packet of white sugar from her bag, and went out with Shen Xueqi.

”Here’s some sugar, if you want sweet porridge, add it yourself.”

”Director Jiang, is your throat sore?” Wu Hongyu asked worriedly, looking at Jiang Xinyu.

”It’s okay, I’ve already taken penicillin, and if that doesn’t work, there’s tetracycline.”

Jiang Xinyu drank a bowl of sweet porridge, said she was going back, though what she wanted most was a hot bath, which wasn’t possible.

In the middle of the night, they entered the station, and Jiang Xinyu didn’t get up. She only rose at dawn to call the timber factory.

They had imported goods twice, but had no money on hand. ”Manager Wang, this time we were fined too much on the Russian side; we have no money. Can you first give us the timber? You can send someone to collect the money. Of course, we’ll send someone to deliver the money back.

Manager Wang, we’re a state-owned enterprise, certainly not a fraud. We need the timber to protect food and cotton. I hope you can accommodate us.”

”Director Jiang, don’t worry, I’ll prepare the goods right away. It will definitely be delivered tonight. I’ll send someone to collect the money.”

”Thank you, Manager Wang, thank you.”

After Jiang Xinyu hung up, she called Wei Kaiyun.

”Hello, Wei Kaiyun.”

”It’s me, I’ve entered the country.”

”Xinyu?”

”Yeah.”

”What’s wrong with your voice?”

”Don’t worry, just a bit of a cold.”

”Xinyu, was everything smooth?”

”Almost got detained, cost us 120,000 to come back.”

Although she spoke lightly about it, how could Wei Kaiyun take it lightly?

”Sweetheart, you weren’t hurt, were you?”

”No, they treated me quite well. As for the fourteen of them, it’s probably not so good. I didn’t ask either.

Okay, I’ll call you when I get back.”

”Okay, take care of yourself.”

Jiang Xinyu then called Qian Jun and explained the situation.

”Are you alright?”

”Yeah, I’m fine. Mr. Qian, inform the furniture factory to prepare the money. Someone from the mountain field will accompany them to collect it.”

”Alright, I’ll call Xiao Changde.”

”Okay, Mr. Shen should still be waiting for a phone report. Let’s discuss any issues when we’re back.”

Having sorted things out, Jiang Xinyu went to the room arranged for her to rest.

Shen Xueqi really did come to make a phone call, first reporting to the higher-ups about the journey.

”Does this Jiang Xinyu have some skills?”

”Leader, I’m not sure.”

”Alright, if possible, have her come to our side.”

”Yes.”

Then he called County Magistrate Tao, ”County Magistrate Tao, this time the situation was really dangerous.”

”Hmm, when you return, give Jiang Xinyu a commendation.”

Jiang Xinyu felt the weight she had gained melting away. It was all in vain despite all the great stuff.

The mountain field here was really trustworthy, twenty trucks of timber came, and it took a night and a day to load them.

Two people were sent over from here, and they left with them.

Jiang Xinyu’s condition was up and down, visibly thinning, making everyone in the vehicle worried.

She had no appetite at all, didn’t want to eat anything, although she could still manage some sweet porridge in the morning and evening.

Apart from necessary refueling and maintenance, they didn’t stop, and twenty days later, they arrived. It was now the end of May. The temperature could reach over twenty degrees during the day, but Jiang Xinyu was still wearing woolen clothes.

Still looking sick. After getting off, the timber factory, grain station, and textile factory managers were all present.

Qian Jun saw Jiang Xinyu, who got off last, and his eyes reddened. What kind of suffering did she endure?

”Director Jiang?”

”Mr. Qian, there’s nothing more for me here. I want to go home, I’m feeling a bit unwell.”

”I’ll take you to the hospital.”

”No need, I just want to go home.”

Liu Yuwei suddenly ran over, and seeing Jiang Xinyu like this, a grown man shed two tears, quickly wiping them away.

”Jiang Xinyu, what’s going on?”

”It’s nothing, just a bit tired. I’ll head back first, let’s gather when I’m better.”

Hao Shichao had just been dispatching cars and also noticed Jiang Xinyu looking paper-thin, which startled him.

”Jiang Xinyu, have you been starving?”

”No, I’m alright. I’ll head back first, and catch up with you guys when I’m better.”

Qian Jun had already driven the car over, and Jiang Xinyu closed her eyes, leaning back as she got in. It was quiet inside the car.

”We’re here.”

Jiang Xinyu opened her eyes, nodded, and got out.

Qian Jun also got out, seeing Jiang Xinyu’s puzzled look, ”I’ll help with the cleaning and fire-starting.”

”No need, I just want to be alone. Mr. Qian, go ahead and handle your work,” she said, closing the door in front of Qian Jun.

Back home, she finally felt at ease. She felt physically drained, but she had to do something; her body felt too uncomfortable.

With determination, she started the iron stove in the bathroom and quickly began boiling water in a large pot.

Getting busy, she started sweating, and apart from feeling a bit dizzy, she was alright.

She then cleaned up the house; she hadn’t been back for nearly two months. The place was covered in dust, but after two hours, it was finally clean.

She took the trash from the yard and went out to throw it away, seeing Qian Jun still outside.

”Mr. Qian?”

”I’m worried about you.”

”Hehe, I’m fine. Being home makes me better. It’s inconvenient to invite you in; please go ahead and attend to your business. I’m really okay here.”

Qian Jun took the trash can from her hand, helped throw it out, returned the empty can to her, and then drove off.

Jiang Xinyu immediately prepared bath water, adding rose essential oil this time. Due to physical weakness, fifteen minutes later, she felt dizzy and had to get out. She looked at her ribs jutting out one by one; she had really lost weight.

She put on pajamas, enduring discomfort, cleaned the bathroom, and then returned to her room.

The egg custard in the pot was almost overcooked. After finishing her meal, she drank a glass of hot milk and then got into bed, under the quilt.
