Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 182: 182 Hidden Dangers

She wasn’t in a hurry, strolling leisurely down the street. She figured she could go back in the next couple of days and found it quite amusing that she was nominated as a model worker?

After walking for about half an hour, she arrived at the door. The door was ajar, so she pushed it open and entered.

Wei Kaiyun had already tidied up, and the house didn’t feel as cool and drafty as it had initially.

”Wife, the house is all cleaned up.”

”Not bad, you deserve some praise.”

Wei Kaiyun took Jiang Xinyu’s bag. ”What’s this?”

”Food, you didn’t prepare any at home.”

The two of them cozily made dinner together. ”There’s nothing like eating at home.”

”I feel the same way.”

”Wife, Yao Shimin is going to stay here for a month. Why don’t you stay too?”

”No, I’m leaving in a few days.”

Wei Kaiyun held onto her tightly, not wanting to let go. ”No, I can’t bear it. You finally got a chance to come here.”

”Hehe, I made a big splash today, so I’d better get back and lay low.”

”What’s the big deal?”

That night, Jiang Xinyu cooperated with him in a way that made Wei Kaiyun nearly lose his self-control.

The next day, Wei Kaiyun rode his bike to work while Jiang Xinyu returned to the guesthouse. Once today’s matters were wrapped up, she’d prepare to go back.

It was nice to be able to see each other, avoiding the boredom of being together for too long.

She entered Director Zhu’s office.

”Please have a seat, Director Jiang.”

”Director Zhu, since yesterday’s meeting has approved it, will I be getting all the related documentation?”

”It’s all here, Director Jiang. Please have a look.”

Jiang Xinyu carefully perused it. ”Thank you, Director Zhu. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back.”

”Director Jiang, have you considered working at the Management Bureau?”

Jiang Xinyu was momentarily taken aback, then quickly smiled. ”Thank you, Director Zhu, for your consideration. However, I’m aware of my own abilities. I only have a middle school education, so I’ve been taking high school courses at home because I want to better serve the people.”

”Haha, Director Jiang, you truly are insightful. I was thinking of inviting you to work here as an officer.”

”Thanks a lot, Director Zhu. I hope I’ll have such an opportunity in the future.”

Exchanging a few more pleasantries, Jiang Xinyu bid farewell and left. She headed straight from the Management Bureau to the train station, where sleeper tickets were still hard to come by. She had to take out Station Chief Zhang’s letter to find the station chief there.

”Alright, no problem, I’ll take you there.”

”Station Chief Liu, I have two colleagues who will be leaving in a month. Can I approach you for help then as well?”

”No problem. With Station Chief Zhang here, we’re just talking about a few sleeper tickets. I can manage that.”

After buying the ticket, her departure was scheduled for 3 PM the next day.

She went to the textile factory to find Yao Shimin, reflecting on how despite his usual playful demeanor, he was completely serious and meticulous when it came to work.

”Vice Factory Director Yao, I’m heading back tomorrow. Here’s Station Chief Zhang’s letter; you can find Station Chief Liu here for sleeper tickets when you purchase yours.”

”Director Jiang, you’re leaving tomorrow?”

”Yes, everything has wrapped up here, so I’m going back.”

”Alright. Take care of yourself.”

”Don’t worry, it’s not my first time traveling by train alone.”

After saying goodbye, Jiang Xinyu went to the union and spoke to Sister Tian.

”Xinyu, I heard you stood up to Vice Factory Director Tian during yesterday’s meeting?”

”It wasn’t directed at her, just addressing the issue.”

”I have a niece working at the Management Bureau who told me about it. You’re quite the idol among the young ladies now.”

”Hehe, I figure Vice Factory Director Tian must have quite a grudge against me too.”

”Hehe, that’s for sure.”

”Sister Tian, I’m heading back. I’ll see you next time I come by.”

Jiang Xinyu left the textile factory to check out of her accommodation and was home by 1 PM in the afternoon.

She started a fire and brought out a big bowl of braised pork and soy sauce beef, waiting for Wei Kaiyun to come home in the evening.

Lu Weiqi got word that Jiang Xinyu was coming over. But he missed her every time.

”Secretary Lu, have you got your eye on Director Jiang? Great taste,” Sister Tian patted the young fellow on the shoulder.

Lu Weiqi gave an awkward laugh, thinking to himself, ”I wouldn’t dare.” ”No, not at all.”

”Hehe, Xinyu left a while ago.”

Lu Weiqi quickly left, unable to cope with the sister’s enthusiasm.

When Wei Kaiyun found out Jiang Xinyu had already left, he figured she must have gone home. Thus, when Tian Mingyan came over to report work, he didn’t listen to her finish and left once it was time to clock out.

”Vice Factory Director Tian, the workday is over. We’ll talk tomorrow.”

”Director Wei, let’s discuss it over dinner.”

”I have plans today, let’s talk tomorrow.” Wei Kaiyun packed his things and got up to leave.

Tian Mingyan was really annoyed; she’d come over at this time hoping to have dinner together.

Wei Kaiyun rode his bike straight home. Seeing the door was locked, he felt reassured.

They were having dinner. ”My train is at 3 PM tomorrow.”

”Wife, be careful on the road.” What could Wei Kaiyun do? His wife was leaving, and he couldn’t keep her.

”By the way, Zhu Peishan mentioned I could work as an officer at the Management Bureau.”

”Haha, he’s quite a dreamer.”

”I wouldn’t come over. I don’t have such ambitions.”

”I know my wife well. Even if you did come, at the very least, they’d have to offer you a director position. Otherwise, why bother?”

”By the way, a lot of people called Qian Jun today; our factory will also be sending people over.”

”Alright, that doesn’t involve me. We have Qian Jun for that.”

”Haha, my wife knows how to take it easy.”

The next day, Wei Kaiyun didn’t go to work at all but stayed home with Jiang Xinyu. The two of them were inseparable like conjoined twins.

After lunch, ”You don’t need to see me off. I can go on my own. You should go to work.”

”I want to see you off.”

Jiang Xinyu gave him a kiss, ”Truly, there’s no need. I’ll wait for you at home.”

Wei Kaiyun simply couldn’t refuse Jiang Xinyu, and in the end, helplessly watched her leave. He went back inside and saw the braised meat she had left for him. He’d have several more meals to enjoy.

Not feeling up to going to work, he lay on the kang, reminiscing about the little moments he shared with Jiang Xinyu. His heart was warm; she was his wife, his own. He’d never imagined he could be so lucky to have such an outstanding woman, having thought he’d be alone for life.

With time, she’d truly be his own.

Unconsciously, he fell asleep, dreaming of their sweet life together.

He awoke with a smile, feeling cold, so he pulled a blanket over, smelled his wife’s scent, and continued to drift off with a grin.

When Jiang Xinyu got on the train, there were already two others there. She had the lower bunk, but it was occupied by a young man.

”Comrade, you’re on my berth.” Actually, Jiang Xinyu initially wanted the upper bunk, but Station Chief Liu directly arranged the lower one for her. As the arrangement was made with such hospitality, she couldn’t exactly decline the kindness.

The young man sheepishly smiled and sat up.
