Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 168: 168 Neighborhood

”May I ask what’s the matter?”

”My husband’s surname is Zhang, Zhang Peikun. My name is Yu Xiaoyan.

I came over today to ask what your family is cooking? The aroma is too tempting, and my kids are craving it so much. Could you sell us some?”

They were talking at the door, and the east-side door also opened. Another woman came out, older than Yu Xiaoyan.

”Sister Yang, you came over too?”

”Of course, the delicious aroma is wafting through the air, making it unbearable at home.”

”Little girl, I’m your eastern neighbor. My family’s name is Cheng Jianxing, and my name is Yang Yue Mei.”

”Hello to both ladies. Have I affected your family’s life?”

The two smiled, but there was a hint lacking in their eyes. Jiang Xinyu, having seen the negative aspects of human nature in her past life, was clear about their demeanor.

”Little girl, your family conditions are really good.”

”It’s okay, my own salary is high, I can eat whatever I want.”

The two realized that this neighbor was not just an ordinary person.

”You’ve been here almost a year, and we still don’t know you,” Yu Xiaoyan smiled, trying to get closer.

”My name is Jiang Xinyu, and I work at the textile factory.”

Now they understood, among the county factories, the textile factory’s benefits are the best.

”Is it just you at home?” Yang Yue Mei asked.

”Is there a problem with that? If there’s nothing else, I need to go back, I have bread steaming, it’s just about to be ready.”

”Xiao Jiang, could you sell me a loaf of bread?”

”Sister-in-law Zhang, this bread is for New Year’s gifts, I’m sending them out tomorrow. I really don’t have extras, but I will make more before the holiday. I’ll send some for the kids to try then, sorry for this time.”

”Haha, that’s okay, what kind of bread is it?”

”It’s made with flour, eggs, sugar, milk powder, and steamed.”

”That must be good stuff.”

”Yeah, I learned this abroad, sorry, it’s hard to take them once they cool.”

Yang Yue Mei stopped Jiang Xinyu, ”Xiao Jiang, send us one to try too, okay?”

”Sure, one for each family. Sorry.” She finished, closed the door, and left.

Yu Xiaoyan returned home, comforted the child, and the man came back at this time.

”What’s the matter?”

”Next door cooked something delicious again, the kids are craving it, I went to try and buy it, they said they’d send a loaf of bread in a few days.”

”That family next door seems to be living really well, who are they?”

”A little girl named Jiang Xinyu, she’s a worker at the textile factory.”

”Jiang Xinyu?”

”Yes. Do you know her?”

”She should be the office manager at the textile factory. It’s normal for her to live well; she’s been to Russia twice a year. The team leader from our squad went along last time, she’s quite the capable little girl.”

”The one who brought grain last time?”

”Yeah. Don’t provoke her and avoid unnecessary troubles.”

”Alright, I understand. Should we accept the bread if she sends it next time?”

”Of course, if you have good stuff, reciprocate a bit.”

”Okay, got it. Also, Yang Yue Mei went out from the east side, she must’ve seen the young age and invited herself.”

”Don’t learn from her, maintain good relations with neighbors, maybe we could get some grain in the future. She brought back wheat for only five cents a pound.”

”I got it.”

The Zhang couple discussed it, and the Cheng family talked about today’s events too.

”Be honest.”

”Why am I not honest? I’ve found out that a man lives there too, and they only have one room with a stove. Isn’t it obvious something is going on with her?”

”Shut up, why are you so meddlesome? I’ve met the neighbor, she’s the office manager at the textile factory, don’t stir up trouble.”

”That little girl is the manager?”

”Indeed.”

Yang Yue Mei dismissed it in her heart; how the manager came to be she couldn’t know for sure. But she wisely kept quiet to avoid angering her husband and getting beaten.

Wei Kaiyun came back and knocked on the door, ”Honey, you don’t look too happy?”

”The neighbors came over today, said I made something delicious.”

”Haha, it’s just for these couple of days, don’t worry.”

”It’s really annoying, I still have to restrict myself on my own meals.”

”Alright, don’t get angry, it’s not worth it.”

”Lv Beiguang should be arriving soon.”

”Should I hide again?”

”Yes, to save explanations.”

”Do you trust him?”

”He’s alright, there won’t be any major events needing him, I still trust his usual conduct.”

”Okay, I’ll hide; is hiding in the bed okay?”

Jiang Xinyu rolled her eyes at him, he’s getting more shameless.

The bread had cooled, organized aside, and she found a cloth bag. When Lv Beiguang knocked, she didn’t let him in, just handed it over to him. freeNovelFire

”Honey, when will the dumplings be cooked?”

”Are you hungry? I’ll cook them right away.”

”Wait a bit, I think Lv Beiguang should arrive soon, after seeing him off, we’ll cook.”

”Alright, do you want to eat three-oil sauce?” fr\(e)ew(e)b.(n)o (v)(e)l.com

Wei Kaiyun shook his head, ”I don’t like the taste of garlic.”

While speaking, the main door got knocked on. Jiang Xinyu quickly packed ten loaves of bread, went out, and opened the door.

”Here, this is the bread, take it back for the kids to eat. As for the school matter, it’s already arranged. On the sixteenth of next month, bring the kids directly to find Luo Wenjiang, the principal of the affiliated elementary school.”

”Okay, I’m leaving now, thank you.”

”No need to be polite.” fr\eewebno vel .c(o)m

The two finished eating the dumplings, each had a bowl of dumpling soup.

”Honey, when are you leaving tomorrow?”

”Wang Ailing told me she’ll be here at seven.”

”Then I have to leave before seven?” Wei Kaiyun spoke with significant resentment.

”Yeah, you should leave early. I made a lot of dumplings, tomorrow morning I’ll cook them for you.”

”I don’t want to get up early either, I just wish to hold my wife and laze in bed.”

Such talk, Jiang Xinyu didn’t respond to it. Otherwise, he wouldn’t stop.

The next day at five thirty, Jiang Xinyu got up and started the fire, in the middle of the night, Wei Kaiyun refilled the coal, the kang wasn’t cold, but the room was.

”Honey, why are you up so early?”

”It’s not early; you should get up soon, after eating you should go.”

”I’m truly pitiful, living like this without being seen.”

Jiang Xinyu thought to herself, being unseen is your problem, what does it have to do with me?

At six thirty, Wei Kaiyun left, Jiang Xinyu prepared a basket tied on the back seat of the bicycle, with bread and twists inside, all for the Wang Family.

Having received their yams and sweet potatoes, it was only right to repay them.

She checked the time, there was fifteen minutes until seven, boiled water and once Wang Ailing arrived, they cooked dumplings together.

”I knew there’d be good food, dumplings, I’ve been wanting to eat them.”

”Sauerkraut meat.”

”Delicious, Xinyu, you’re really skillful.”

After they finished eating, Jiang Xinyu tidied up the house and didn’t head out until eight.

”Xinyu, what are these?”

”Bread, twists. Take them back for Auntie and the others to try.”
