Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 183: 183 return trip

The girl across opened her mouth, ”Comrade, can we change seats?”

Jiang Xinyu didn’t answer, just smiled at the boy.

”Comrade, we can compensate with money.”

”Alright, how much are you planning to give me?”

”How about five yuan?” The girl seemed a bit embarrassed.

”Okay. Which berth is yours?”

The girl pointed to the upper one, and Jiang Xinyu threw her bag up there. She took the five yuan handed over by the boy and went up.

They were willing to give me five yuan? Their attitude is quite good; otherwise, even fifty wouldn’t do.

Lying down, she took out a book. Nowadays, she reads geography books every day; honestly, she’s getting a bit awkward with it.

The two below were talking in whispers, exhibiting good manners at least by not being loud.

When it was time for dinner, she went down, took her lunch box, and headed to the restaurant. Seeing the food, she just couldn’t muster an appetite, so she returned, made a cup of malted milk in her tea jar, pulled out a piece of red sausage and a bun for dinner.

The sweet aroma of malted milk, combined with the meaty smell of the red sausage, filled the small space. The two youngsters were eating their meal, feeling that life was tough.

However, since they didn’t know one another well, there was no way to share; even if they knew each other, food allocation was notably clear.

It can be quite tormenting; the two of them come from relatively stable households, eating white bread buns and boiled eggs. But there’s still no comparison to Jiang Xinyu.

After dinner, Jiang Xinyu washed her tea jar and lunch box, pinched her nose as she went to the bathroom. Upon returning, she saw the two of them looking at her, she smiled at them and climbed up.

”Comrade, where are you headed?” The girl asked Jiang Xinyu with a smile.

”T City.”

”Haha, it was a bit presumptuous earlier.” The two felt genuinely embarrassed for offering five yuan.

”It’s okay.”

”Comrade, we are going to the Northeast as sent-down educated youth.”

Sent-down educated youth with such conditions?

”You’re quite young, aren’t you?”

”Yes, I’m eighteen this year, he’s twenty. How about you?”

”I’m seventeen.”

”Are you from T City?”

”Yeah, I was on a business trip to the Provincial City.”

”You’ve started working already?”

”Yeah, I’ve been working for a year now. Don’t you find going to the Northeast as sent-down educated youth tough?”

”It’s alright; our families have arranged everything there.”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, clearly, they weren’t from ordinary families.

”Being so young, working must be tiring, right?”

”It’s alright; when you like it, you don’t feel tired.”

The boy listened as the two girls chatted, not interrupting; he seemed to be a shy person.

Jiang Xinyu got off the train, greeted them, and felt grounded just by stepping on land.

Six in the morning, there weren’t many people on the street; she managed her way home.

The first thing she did at home was boil water to bathe; she felt extremely uncomfortable. By the time she arrived at the office, it was almost ten.

After tidying up, she headed to Qian Jun’s office.

”Director Jiang, you’re back?”

”Yes, Secretary Song, is Mr. Qian in?”

”Yes, you can go in directly.”

”Mr. Qian, I’m back.”

”Thank you for your hard work, Director Jiang.”

”It’s my job.”

”Very well done, on behalf of all the workers in our factory, thank you.”

”Haha, it’s all a bit formal, feels a bit unusual.”

”You... By the way, a brother unit from L City will be coming tomorrow. Director Jiang, will you receive them?”

”With Mr. Qian’s instructions, I will definitely arrange everything well. Can our dormitories accommodate them?”

”Yes, we’ve prepared a few rooms. Quite a few called wanting to come soon, but I refused.”

”Mr. Qian, when will our club be restored?”

”The arrangements have been made already. What’s on your mind?”

”Just thinking we could build a guesthouse as well.”

”No need, it’s too wasteful.”

They discussed some matters regarding the Management Bureau, Jiang Xinyu handed over some documents to Qian Jun. Then, she returned to the office and made a call to Wei Kaiyun, and finally, took her lunch box to the canteen.

Right now, she needs some gossip for a change.

Seeing Wang Ailing in line, she walked over and tapped her shoulder, ”Sis.”

”Xinyu, you’re back. I have something to tell you.”

The girl behind Wang Ailing smiled and invited Jiang Xinyu to stand in front of her, but Jiang Xinyu refused, not feeling hungry nor in a rush; mainly, she felt embarrassed cutting in line.

After Wang Ailing finished getting her meal, she sat on the side waiting for Jiang Xinyu.

”Sis, what do you want to tell me?”

”Kong Demin has been assigned to the Revolutionary Committee.”

”Really? How do you know? Did he come looking for you again?”

”No, Kong Mengjie told me.”

”Haha, you should watch yourself in the future.”

”I don’t go out much anyway. By the way, I met with that comrade.”

”Haha, how did it feel?”

”Not bad, he looks quite handsome.”

”So you agreed to it?”

”Yes, I decided to give it a try.”

After finishing their meal, the two parted ways. Jiang Xinyu thought as long as Wang Ailing didn’t marry Zhao Zhongshuo, she wouldn’t repeat the tragedy of her past life. After all, she was likable and upright.

As long as no one violates fundamental issues after starting a family, harmony should prevail.

The entire afternoon, Jiang Xinyu discussed the restoration of the club at the union, planning indoor renovations, sports equipment, rest areas, and all the scattered bits.

”Director Jiang, have you been to the coal mine’s club?”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, ”I have, it felt quite ordinary.

How about holding a meeting, getting feedback from below, what does everyone like, what hobbies do they have?”

”Director Jiang’s approach is good, let’s do that. I’ll notify everyone; tomorrow morning, the team leaders of each workshop will collect the data, and we’ll unify it, ensuring everyone’s satisfaction.” Lu Changchun also agreed with Jiang Xinyu’s suggestion.

After work, Qian Jun stopped Jiang Xinyu, ”Let’s have dinner in the city tonight.”

”Leader, Mr. Qian, can I not go? I haven’t rested yet.”

”Director Jiang, you laid back while coming back.”

This issue is hard to argue, but they drove to the city, since Song Qingqing wasn’t very familiar with driving, Qian Jun drove himself.

The two girls sat in the back, ”Director Jiang, Xiao Pan called me; I admire you.”

”Haha, that’s thanks to Mr. Qian for backing me; otherwise, how dare I boldly speak out? I actually offended that Vice Factory Director Tian.”

”Oh? I give Director Jiang backing? Then it’s truly my honor.”

”Of course, didn’t the leader say not to be too difficult, the worst result would be the Management Bureau’s suggestion?

Since that’s the case, what is there to fear?”

”Yes, but Director Jiang really exceeded everyone’s expectations.”

”Lucky, truly lucky, actually they were also feeling uncertain, otherwise how would I have had room to maneuver?”
