Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 159: 159 Catching thieves?

The intense curiosity couldn’t be held back, so Jiang Xinyu rode her bike over directly.

The crowd was thick, and Jiang Xinyu couldn’t squeeze in. After wandering outside for a while, she didn’t hear any useful information.

Might as well go to the textile factory to deliver bread to Wang Ailing first; by the time I get back, I should know the outcome.

”Director Jiang, you’ve come?”

”Xiao Liu, is it your shift today?”

”Yes, Director Jiang, you came just in time. It was really lively over there just now.”

”What happened? Do you know what went on?”

”Not exactly, at the start, someone was chasing two people ahead, like a thief jumping into someone’s yard, and the person following also jumped in. I’m curious about what really happened inside.”

”Haha, I’ll go find someone first, and then come back to check it out.”

”Take care, Director Jiang.”

Wang Ailing is probably on the early night shift today, she should be getting ready to sleep by now after dinner, right?

Found Wang Ailing in the dormitory; she really wasn’t asleep yet. She was the only one awake in the dorm because of Jiang Xinyu. She arranged dorms with the same shift so it wouldn’t disturb her rest.

”Xinyu?”

”Sis, come out.”

Wang Ailing hurriedly came out and closed the door, ”Xinyu, why did you come over?”

”To bring you some bread I made this afternoon. Clear out your lunchbox for me. I’ll bring you something nice tomorrow.”

”What’s bread?”

”Open it and you’ll know. Hurry, I want to catch some excitement.”

Wang Ailing took the lunchbox back to the dormitory, opened the lid, and was hit by a rich, sweet aroma. She took a deep breath, knowing it was particularly fragrant without even tasting it.

Quickly covering the lunchbox, she quietly went out to hand it to Jiang Xinyu.

”Sis, I’m leaving. What do you want to eat? I’ll bring it to you.”

”I want to eat meat.”

”Okay, no problem, I’ll bring you braised pork tomorrow. I’m going now.”

Rushing out the door, there weren’t many people left at Huang Hongwei’s door anymore, and the main gate was tightly shut. What’s going on?

”Xiao Liu, what’s going on across the street? How did so many people disappear so quickly?”

”I just saw someone come out and say something outside, but I didn’t hear it. People dispersed, only nearby workers’ families are left.”

”Whose house is that?”

”Director Huang’s house.”

”Xiao Liu, let me go take a look first.”

”Take care, Director Jiang.”

Jiang Xinyu quite liked Xiao Liu; he had a keen sense of observation.

At the door, several women were gathered and chatting. Jiang Xinyu squeezed in to listen.

Couldn’t make head or tail of it, ”Big Sister, what happened here?”

”We don’t know either, we just heard a woman’s scream, then came out to see a crowd gathered here.”

”Big Sister, earlier there were a lot of people around here, and now they’ve left so quickly?”

”Earlier a man came out and said they caught a thief, asking people not to crowd around.”

”Oh.”

An ear-piercing scream coming from Huang Hongwei’s house, it must be Kong Mengjie, right? But who went inside to catch the thief?

Today, Wei Kaiyun didn’t come home. Thinking about what he said a few days ago, it seemed the one catching the thief should be Shen Xueqi.

”Do you think it’s taking a long time to catch the thief? There’s no commotion inside either.”

”Indeed, it’s really worrying.”

Jiang Xinyu left pushing her bike. She would know what happened when Wei Kaiyun came back; no need to wait foolishly here. Besides, if they come out and see her, it would be too awkward.

Returning home, Wei Kaiyun hadn’t arrived yet. Having eaten a piece of bread just after it was cooked, she was now hungry. Without his return, she wasn’t in the mood to cook steak, so she drank a cup of malted milk and waited for him.

Meanwhile, at Huang Hongwei’s house, Shen Xueqi looked at the two people on the kang and was truly stunned. Such a lovely girl was surprisingly filthy, no different from that woman.

This is the kind of person she found? Why insist on someone else’s husband?

Kong Mengjie sat terrified, wrapped in a quilt on the kang, not daring to lift her head, feeling doomed this time.

What was going on? Today was her day off, she went out in the morning wanting to shop about, having heard the supply and marketing cooperative had red cashmere scarves. She wanted to buy one. As soon as she stepped out, Huang Hongwei stopped her. Not wanting to be seen tugging at each other outside, she went into his house through the back door.

They entered the house. Despite her struggles, they ended up together.

Suddenly there was noise in the yard, wanting to rise and take a look. Suddenly someone barged in.

Kong Mengjie screamed instinctively, wrapping herself up. Only then did she see it was Shen Xueqi, and she felt utterly ashamed.

Huang Hongwei was startled at first, but then he reacted and hurried to dress.

”Why did you barge into my house? Get out immediately, or I’ll sue you for trespassing.”

Having put on some clothes, Huang Hongwei felt more confident, but in Shen Xueqi’s eyes, he was just bravado with no substance.

”Sue me? Haha, I’m the police, what are you going to sue me for?”

”Why are you in my house? Even if you are the police, you can’t—get out.”

”Kong Mengjie, didn’t you say you weren’t married? Why are you in someone else’s house, sleeping with an old man? Are you that J?”

Kong Mengjie’s teeth were chattering now, truly afraid. Hearing Shen Xueqi’s words made her wish she was dead. Humiliation, sheer humiliation.

”Do you know each other? We’re both unmarried and dating. Why are you meddling?”

Shen Xueqi outright ignored him, just staring at Kong Mengjie.

Huang Hongwei, at least being a man, watched this unfamiliar man staring at a quilt-wrapped Kong Mengjie on the kang. He got up to shove Shen Xueqi. ”Get out.”

With a counter move, Shen Xueqi pinned Huang Hongwei to the ground.

He straightened up, sneered, and walked out.

Huang Hongwei climbed up from the ground, ”Mengjie, get dressed first, I’ll go see.”

Shen Xueqi came out, spotted his wallet in the yard, bent down to pick it up. If not for running into a thief, he wouldn’t have known the woman who had stirred his heart again was just like that one.

Opening the door, he found several women gathered outside. Suddenly filled with hatred, he turned, looked at the emerging Huang Hongwei, ”Kong Mengjie slept with you, a man should be responsible.”

Those gathered outside were all relatives of workers from the textile factory, who knew Huang Hongwei.

What Shen Xueqi said dropped like drops of water into hot oil, causing an immediate stir. Everyone turned to look at Huang Hongwei.

Finishing his words, Shen Xueqi left with a smile, not caring about the whispered discussions of the few women behind him.

Huang Hongwei, being stared at, felt embarrassed. Quickly securing the door, he fled back inside.

Kong Mengjie was numbly dressing, having heard what Shen Xueqi said outside.
