Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Lang Yi was waiting alone outside the door for Yang Yu’s visit.

Unless it was completely late at night, he would keep waiting.

It was just the right time when Lingshan was soundly asleep; Lang Yi didn’t want to miss such a good opportunity.

Lingshan’s straightforward, impulsive nature, always doing things without considering the consequences, had always been a headache for Lang Yi.

After the Dragon God Conference, Lingshan had a whim and went to the nearby adventurer guild. Seeing that task, she immediately took it on. Hearing Lang Yi say the task was too difficult and they would at least need to find reliable partners, Lingshan decided on Yang Yu and his group, insisting on partnering with them to repay the damages caused to Yang Yu by her previous mistake.

Lang Yi couldn’t predict what Lingshan would do next impulsively; he only knew that as long as she remained the leader of the Island Drifting group, they were doomed to suffer.

”I really wonder how her subordinates survived...so, are we the only ones left in the end?”

In the cold night, Lang Yi sighed to himself:

”Why did I ever listen to her and get on her pirate ship.”

To this day, Lang Yi still resented his impulsive decision to join Island Drifting.

Since he was already in it, Lang Yi had no choice but to take on some of the responsibilities that the foolish leader should be doing.

As the night deepened, Lang Yi’s wait proved to be worthwhile.

After basically reaching an agreement with the Red Blood Rose, but before it got too late, Yang Yu came to visit Lang Yi without much hesitation.

”Sorry to keep you waiting. It’s late already, so let’s skip the pleasantries and get straight to the point.”

Lang Yi began, ”No problem, whatever you have to say, just say it directly.”

Since witnessing Yang Yu’s impressive decision-making, Lang Yi had grown quite fond of Yang Yu.

This is the quality an S-Class adventure group leader should have, not only having extraordinary strength but also being able to make the right decisions in special circumstances.

Since that day, Lang Yi couldn’t help but compare Yang Yu with his own foolish group leader.

Lang Yi couldn’t imagine what his foolish leader would do in the same situation.

She would definitely shout, ”She is a bad person, by helping her you are harboring her. Get out of my way, or I’ll cut you down along with her,” and then end up fighting those trying to stop her, eventually letting the suspicious little girl escape, leaving a mess behind.

If it weren’t for his home being in the Ocean Duchy and needing to handle some matters, Lang Yi would really consider jumping ship to join Yang Yu’s team.

Compared with his group leader, Yang Yu’s words were truly pleasant to the ear, and his team was filled with talent.

After taking some time to explain his situation, Yang Yu righteously stated:

”In short, we cannot accompany you to complete the task issued by the giant dragon.

But we have some matters to investigate, and we must make a trip to the Ocean Duchy.

We hope you can provide us with some assistance. If possible, it would be best if you could introduce us to a reliable guide.

If necessary, I can even post a task at the adventurer guild, offering you some compensation.”

Lang Yi replied, ”No need to bother with the adventurer guild.

I basically understand your situation, and your decision also resolves my problem.

Wherever you’re planning to go, I hope you can keep it secret from our leader.

That person might become interested and follow you, meaning well but making a mess of things.

I came here to tell you not to always cave into that woman’s whims. When it’s time to refuse, refuse outright. She won’t have the nerve to keep pestering.

It seems there’s no need for me to say more.

Where do you want to go in the ocean? Once in the Ocean Duchy, I’ll get a friend to guide you. As long as the pay is sufficient, she’s more than happy to do this kind of business.”

”I’m most grateful.”

”To prevent our leader from interfering with your matters, if you come across her, just say you’re touring the Ocean Duchy or searching for treasure.

Emphasize it again, that person... is troublesome in various ways, don’t get caught up in her antics.”

Yang Yu nodded with a helpless smile, ”It’s not easy for you either.”

Lang Yi responded with a wry smile, ”I will inform our leader of your ’rejection.’

It should take half a day to convince her. If she comes to you, remember to refuse firmly.

If there’s a way to directly avoid her, that would be better.

If she knows your stance, no matter how thick-skinned she is, she wouldn’t impose further.”

”Tomorrow, we will go to the dwarfs to collect the equipment. After collecting it, we’ll head straight to the Ocean Duchy.”

”Then let’s talk about where to act like we have a chance encounter before entering the sea and complete the rendezvous.”

Under the moonlight, Yang Yu and Lang Yi talked cheerfully.

Even though Lang Yi held some resentment towards Yang Yu for defeating his sister, it completely dissipated at this moment, as it was his sister’s own lack of skill, and there was nothing to complain about.

After chatting briefly, Lang Yi ended the conversation with ”It’s getting late, you should rest early.”

Returning to his room, Yang Yu stretched out lazily.

The vast majority of people could still be reasoned with; today’s trivial matters went more smoothly than Yang Yu had expected.

Yet, the smoother things were, the stronger Yang Yu felt a looming sense of crisis.

How long this peaceful life could continue, Yang Yu couldn’t tell.

Lying large on the bed, he flipped through the pages of his notebook.

One question, in particular, stayed fresh in Yang Yu’s memory.

Finding out the true purpose of the Star Eye required a thousand victory points, which Yang Yu was hesitant to spend, so he broke it down into many little questions.

— ”Did the Star Eyes Clan betray the Demon King in the past?”

Yang Yu received a definitive answer from Owen, ”In the current history of the Demon King and the Hero, there is no history of the Star Eyes Clan betraying.

Instead, because of the Demon King’s actions, they loathe the Demon King.

Basically, each time the Demon King descends, only two or three members of the Star Eyes Clan survive.

Under such circumstances, how could they join the Demon King and then betray him?”

People who joined the Demon King and then betrayed are not few, so why specifically target the Star Eyes Clan?

Yi Zuo once said that the Demon King told him they are all descendants of betrayers, so there’s no need to show mercy.

And the Magic Wand Sigh Seed told Bai Jin that the battle isn’t over yet, that there are no so-called ’betrayers’ in this world; as long as everyone can realign, they’re comrades. Only those who don’t understand what they’ve done are their enemies.

Combining these two statements with past events, Yang Yu could easily draw a conclusion.

All inhabitants of this world are descendants of betrayers.

This world... is likely a paradise for betrayers…
