The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 1126: Chapter 1126: Won’t Even Answer Mr. Zachmann’s Phone Call

Stanley Zachmann and Nathalie Quinlan were still on their way to the nursing home.

At this moment in the nursing home, Mr. Zachmann hung up the phone, his previously light and cheerful tone instantly shifting. He turned his head and asked sternly, ”Where’s Caryn? Still not answering your calls?”

”She’s not answering. When I call, she just hangs up,” Audrick Zachmann said worriedly, standing by Mr. Zachmann’s hospital bed.

Holding his forehead with his hand, his face full of frustration: ”Grandpa, what should we do now?”

Mr. Zachmann’s gaze darkened slightly, his expression turning somber. He raised the hand holding the phone and silently scrolled through his phone book to find Caryn Zachmann’s number. He decided to call her himself.

”Beep...”

The first time, Caryn didn’t pick up.

But unlike with Audrick, she didn’t directly hang up either.

Mr. Zachmann called a second time.

”Beep...”

After a long stretch of ringing, it finally connected.

”Hello?”

Hearing that the call had gone through, Mr. Zachmann instinctively straightened his back. His voice was tense and hurried as he spoke to her: ”Caryn, where are you?”

”I’m still at school. I have something to do,” she replied casually.

Mr. Zachmann closed his eyes briefly and pressed on: ”Are you aware of the discussions online about the performance at the anniversary celebration? I hope you...”

He hadn’t finished his sentence.

On the other end of the line, Caryn seemed to sense the purpose of his call and immediately responded coldly: ”Grandpa, I’m busy here. My tutor is calling me. I can’t talk to you now. I’ll call you back later when I’m done.”

”Don’t hang up yet, I...”

Caryn had no intention of letting him finish: ”Grandpa, that’s it for now. I’m hanging up. Bye.”

All Mr. Zachmann could hear was the busy tone on the other end of the line. He looked at his phone with his cloudy eyes; the call had already been disconnected by Caryn.

”She’s not answering?” Audrick, who had been observing the whole process from the side, was so frustrated that he held his forehead and began pacing angrily in the hospital room. ”What the hell is she thinking!”

Nathalie is the real Lighten Chaser, yet Caryn seems completely unbothered about the mess at the anniversary celebration. If this continues, the only one who will be humiliated is Caryn Zachmann herself.

And besides, we’re all family! Is there really a need to make things like this?

Did she not think things through at all before acting? How would Uncle see their family if he found out?

Mr. Zachmann sat in a daze for a long while, saying nothing. His gaze looked weary. He had already reached the age where he understood the ways of the world. At this point in his life, he no longer harbored lofty ambitions; his greatest wish was simply to see his family harmonious, united, and loving.

But now, ever since he found Nathalie, what had this family turned into?

He wasn’t even dead yet!

Nathalie hadn’t even moved into The Zachmanns’ Mansion, and yet the family’s ghosts and ghouls had all come crawling out.

His lifetime of mastering political maneuvering and being both shrewd and kind-hearted had left him overwhelmed in the face of this situation. Aside from anger, all he felt was a profound sense of helplessness.

Just then, Celine Tucker entered, directing the caregivers to place the newly replaced fresh flowers in the usual spot in the hospital room.

Today, she was dressed in a fitted cheongsam, draped in a beige shawl. Her entire demeanor exuded elegance and sophistication, making her approachable yet commanding.

”Good timing that you’re here,” Mr. Zachmann said as he waved her over when he saw her come in, gesturing for her to come closer.

Celine instructed the caregivers to place the flowers in their usual spot, then leisurely walked toward Mr. Zachmann.

Celine’s expression was gentle, her demeanor cultured and poised, as if she were the very picture of understanding and grace: ”Dad, is there something you wanted to discuss?”

Mr. Zachmann neither particularly liked nor disliked his second daughter-in-law. He responded with a simple grunt, and succinctly explained the situation unfolding online. Then, bracing himself to sit up, he said, ”Audrick called her, and she didn’t answer. I called, and she claimed she was too busy. She only listens to you, so you need to talk to her for me.”
