Chapter 620 The Lin Siblings

”Thank you, my savior.”

Seeing Lin Zifeng pick up the flowers for her, warmth filled the girl’s heart.

”Are you selling flowers?” Lin Zifeng asked.

”Mm-hmm.” The girl just nodded her head, still cautious of the strange man before her.

”Don’t come out at night anymore, it’s too dangerous.” Saying this, Lin Zifeng hurriedly took out a sum of money from his pocket and firmly stuffed it into the girl’s flower basket.

Although the girl was blind, her spirit was very bright. She quickly pushed all the money back to Lin Zifeng, saying, ”No, you have already saved me once; I cannot take your money.”

”It’s alright, just consider it as compensation for your loss tonight,” Lin Zifeng said with a smile.

”No, no. These flowers are all damaged; I cannot take it.”

”It’s okay.” Lin Zifeng took all the remaining good roses from the flower basket.

The girl’s eyes were filled with grateful tears, but she knew she couldn’t accept this.

Despite her poverty, she absolutely couldn’t be so greedy for small gains. She quickly stuffed the money back into the man’s hand, then held her blind cane and began to grope her way step by step into the darkness of the night.

Seeing this, Lin Zifeng’s face showed a brief look of astonishment.

He couldn’t help but smile wryly, not expecting the blind girl to have such a side to her.

At night, Lin Zifeng quietly followed her, feeling a bit of heartache for the girl’s situation.

Because she, like Lin Zifeng, was a child with no home, an orphan.

After following for two hours, the girl finally stumbled back to her dilapidated home.

Looking at the small flat under the overpass, Lin Zifeng’s heart felt more distressed.

After entering the house, the girl hurriedly changed out of her clothes.

Despite the outside being very run-down, the room was neat and tidy, organized meticulously. Other than an old radio, there were no other superfluous electrical appliances.

The room was also very small, barely twenty square meters, not large at all.

The house was filled with fresh flowers and some unprocessed roses, showing that the girl had always relied on selling flowers for survival.

After changing her clothes, the girl’s eyes were still red.

To earn more money to cure her eyes, she had been working very, very hard.

Getting up at four in the morning every day to buy flowers, then silently trimming them at home on her own, selling them until late into the night before coming back alone and desolate.

Although life was hard, it did not prevent the girl from believing in her ability to survive.

The girl fell silent for a while, groping around in the room.

She opened the rice cooker that had been prepared during the day.

She scooped up a bit with a bowl—the household conditions were tough, so the rice cooker only contained a simple steamed egg custard, and a nicely cleaned small plate held some cabbage cooked during the day.

Far from finding her life difficult, the girl sat on a small stool and ate with relish.

Watching the girl with her fair, sensual lips enjoying the cabbage, a contented smile appeared on her face as she tilted her little head and longed for the future under the night sky.

At that moment, the girl was beautiful, truly beautiful.

Seeing this, Lin Zifeng helplessly shook his head.

In this world, there are people who are more tired, poorer, and more unfortunate than you, and they don’t complain about the hardships of life.

And those of you with able bodies and such good family conditions, what reason do you have to say living is hard?

Not until the girl had finished all the rice in her bowl did she then grope towards the sink in the dark room.

Perhaps the evening’s events had unsettled the girl somewhat.

Suddenly, her foot slipped, and her slender body plunged forward.

Zifeng, who had been quietly observing from outside the house, hastily burst into the dilapidated building.

Seeing that the girl was about to hit the ground, Zifeng’s feet shuffled, his speed reaching the utmost limit, and his figure, like a ghostly apparition, instantly rushed to the girl’s side. With a large sweep of his arms, he cradled the girl’s slender waist and held her tight in his embrace.

The girl screamed in surprise, evidently taken aback by Zifeng’s sudden appearance.

”Are you okay?” the man quickly set the girl back on her feet safely.

”You, how come you’re in my house?”

”I just secretly followed you tonight.”

Zifeng said with a smile, ”But don’t get me wrong, I’m not the bad guy you imagine.”

Seeing the girl somewhat evasive, Zifeng quickly stepped forward to explain.

”Big brother, why are you stalking me?” Finally, the girl dropped the term her ’benefactor’.

”Your living conditions are so poor, and you’ve lost your sight. I can help you, and if you’re willing, I can help you restore your eyes.”

”Big brother, thank you, but Chuqing can’t accept.”

”Why not?”

Zifeng couldn’t understand either; life was so oppressive, did she still care about her own pride and such?

”Big brother, we’ve known each other for less than five hours, and you’re helping me so much. It’s not that Chuqing doubts your character, it’s just that I believe I have the ability to get my eyesight back.”

”You rely on selling flowers to earn money for your eyesight?” Zifeng was also anxious for her.

”Mhm, although selling flowers is hard, I find self-sufficiency very fulfilling. Thank you for your kindness, big brother, but Chuqing only wants to rely on her own abilities to cure her eyes.”

The girl pursed her lips, her fair little hand gently pinching the small bowl in her hand; deep down, she was very touched. A man she had met for less than half a day was willing to help her so much, it made her feel a warm sensation inside.

”Alright then, I won’t force you. If anything comes up in the future, you can always come to Tianyu Group or the Archaeology Department at Yunhai University to find me.”

Seeing the girl’s bright eyes somewhat bewildered.

Zifeng hurriedly began to clarify, as it indeed sounded quite confusing.

With Zifeng’s explanation, the girl finally understood.

”Big brother, why are you so nice to me?” At that moment, the girl couldn’t help but ask.

”Uh.”

Zifeng touched his chin, his voice gentle as he said, ”Because you’re a lot like me.”

”Big brother, in what ways are we alike?”

Though she couldn’t see what the other person looked like, the girl was still eager to continue the conversation with Zifeng. After his introduction just now, the girl’s previously vigilant heart had completely relaxed.

Perhaps because she had rarely received such concern from others, it made her feel very warm inside. She, too, was an orphan, blind from birth, and her family, being in poor circumstances, had abandoned her when faced with the hefty medical expenses.

Fortunately, an old woman who collected trash took her in, but the good times didn’t last, as the old lady passed away when she was fifteen.

Ever since, the girl had supported herself by selling flowers.

After learning all this, Zifeng also felt deeply sorry.

He did everything within his power to help her.

”We’re both orphans,” Zifeng said softly.

The girl didn’t speak, a tinge of melancholy on her lovely face.

However, quickly, the girl suddenly said with a smile, ”Big brother, can I consider you as my brother?”

”Of course!” Zifeng agreed without a second thought.

This was perhaps a mutual understanding between two people who shared a similar plight.
