Chapter 609 Your Conscience is Greatly Corrupted

”Lin Zifeng, what, what are you trying to do?” The woman in his embrace started to feel afraid, her eyes watery and trembling as she stared at him intently.

”Haven’t you been calling yourself my wife these past few days? Now, shouldn’t I assume some responsibilities as a husband?” he said, the corners of his mouth curving into a wicked grin.

”I, we can’t do this yet.” Humiliated, she didn’t even know where to turn her head.

”So when do you think we can ’do this’?” There was a clear hint of disappointment on the man’s face.

”Ah, ah! Can’t you give me some time? I’m just not ready yet...”

”Er, okay, then.” He slowly set her delicate body down, his heart sinking with a thud. He cursed himself inwardly; his desires had gotten the better of him again!

Knowing full well that a future with Nangong Bing was impossible, why couldn’t he help himself?

Have I actually fallen in love with her?

Seeing the man’s look of disappointment, the woman felt a sting of compassion. Her body trembling slightly, she bit her lip hard and with a heart pounding like a startled deer, she approached Lin Zifeng. Clothed in a classical white dress, her slender and perfect body was presented like an Immortal, her pale yellow curls falling gracefully over her rich and full bosom. Biting her red lips gently, she said, ”What if, what if we just find a random hotel, if, if you really need it, I, I can...”

As she spoke, the woman’s cheeks became increasingly moist, her pretty face glowing with a faint blush.

”Heh, Your Royal Highness, I was only teasing you. Don’t take it too seriously,” he chuckled.

”...Ah! You were, you were just teasing me?” Nangong Bingqing’s tender and pink face registered shock, and her slightly shy face now froze, uncertain whether to be relieved or distressed.

”So all along you’ve been playing me, haven’t you?”

Now the woman’s face finally showed anger, her round eyes fixed on him.

”Er, when have I ever played with you?” The man felt somewhat innocent.

”Lin, I get it now. You’ve never really liked me, have you? All these days you’ve stayed only to fulfill my father’s last wish, and now I’ve finally understood.”

The man stayed silent, his heart wrenching in pain. He offered no explanation and no direct answer to the woman’s question.

”I can’t deny that you are indeed very pretty and beautiful,” Lin Zifeng said but did not continue.

Because tears had already begun to form in Nangong Bing’s eyes.

Soon, the woman turned and left, her heart filled with an immense sense of grievance.

She didn’t know if she had fallen in love with him, but based on the words Lin Zifeng had just said, she, Nangong Bing, was a smart woman. Perhaps she had been reading too much into it.

After all, the man had merely saved her life a few times, and yet she had fallen for him like crazy.

Perhaps this was just a one-sided love on her part.

Thinking about this, Nangong Bing’s tender heart became somewhat bitter. Now she had lost everything. Her parents had passed away, and even the man she loved did not care for her, making her feel as if the whole world had fallen into despair.

Yet, Lin Zifeng did not go after her. Silently he took out a cigarette, lit it with a sense of defeat, and inhaled deeply.

The pain he was enduring, however, was even more unbearable than Nangong Bing’s.

He knew he had fallen in love with Nangong Bing, but some things were out of his hands.

Now he carried far too much weight, to the point where if he died one day, the hurt that would leave Nangong Bing would be much worse than the current rejection she was facing.

Better a short pain than a long one. To truly love someone is not to possess them but to support them silently from behind...

That evening, the woman returned home feeling disheartened, experiencing a myriad of emotions.

This invisible rejection was hard to bear.

Her innate sense of superiority, even with pride in her bones, made it feel like she had lost so much all at once...

Zifeng had been doggedly following her around, noticing the pale complexion and somewhat desolate expression on the woman’s face, his heart ached too.

Everything he did now was nothing more than to ensure Nangong Bing’s safety and to establish his own power base.

As for what would happen in the future, he really hadn’t given it much thought.

Until the next morning.

Zifeng had cheerfully prepared breakfast and other such things early in the morning, just waiting for the old Buddha to come down for breakfast.

But she totally ignored him, and after a night of contemplation, he felt as if their relationship had somehow returned to how it was when they first met.

”Good morning, old Buddha.”

Zifeng said with a brown-nosing smile plastered all over his face.

”Hmph!” The woman tilted her arrogant swan-like neck slightly, her cold and beautiful face almost devoid of any superfluous expression.

She was mildly annoyed that the man hadn’t called her ”wife” again.

Thinking to herself, Well, Mr. Lin, so you just stopped calling me ’wife’ like that, huh? Is your conscience really as big as bad it gets? After all I’ve done for you these past days, was it all just a wasted effort on my part?

Thinking about how kind she had been to this scoundrel, and not only did he not appreciate it, but he also hurt her so deeply.

Nangong Bing felt like she couldn’t swallow this indignation.

After all, she was a big international CEO with assets worth at least several billion, right?

Just like that, you dismiss me so casually? Where does that leave my face, Nangong Bing?

”What’s for breakfast today?”

”For breakfast, I bought your favorite century egg and lean meat congee, as well as toasted eggs, salted duck eggs, chicken eggs...”

The woman’s slender, cold eyebrows couldn’t help but furrow again as she said with some annoyance, ”Why did you buy so many eggs?”

”What’s wrong with eating eggs? They’re good for your health,” Zifeng said seriously.

”Eggs, my foot, I don’t want to eat eggs at all.”

”Then what do you want to eat? I remember you always used to love eggs. Today, I especially went to a lot of places to buy so many for you. Don’t waste my goodwill, alright?”

”Not eating!” Nangong Bing crossed her arms over her chest, her face cold, and outright refused.

Damn it! Seems like the event from last night, she’s really holding it against me?

Zifeng’s expression changed slightly, and he smacked his lips, not knowing what to say next.

Seeing this, the woman couldn’t help but feel secretly thrilled.

Finally, she had won a battle. After being so proactive last night, you still deliberately teased me? Well, now? Your Highness, I shall tease you as well.

”So, what do you want to eat? I’ll buy it for you again tomorrow.”

”No need! I don’t need your pity.”

”Pity? What pity? Old Buddha, that’s a bit too much,” the man touched his bitter chin.

”No need. From now on, someone else will take care of the breakfast for me; I don’t need your pity. It’s just a rejection, right? Do you need to compensate me like this? I, Nangong Bing, am not as vulnerable as you think.”

”You might really be thinking too much, I didn’t mean that.”

”I said I don’t need your pity, that’s all. Alright, I’m off to work. You enjoy your eggs,” she said, and without paying any attention to Zifeng’s baffled face, she picked up her little purse and turned to walk outside.

Leaving someone completely befuddled, he muttered, ”What do you mean ’your eggs, eat them slowly’? With so many eggs, can I even finish them all?”
