Chapter 565: Chapter 558: Eve of the Rainforest Battle

In the dead of night, at the edge of the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest, the solitary evening breeze occasionally carried a few spine-chilling, mournful cries.

Around them lay several members of the Shadow Group, as well as more than ten Black mercenaries.

At this moment, the area was steeped in despair, the pungent odor of blood having spread for dozens of miles. There had already been five wolf pack attacks throughout the night, leaving the surrounding rainforest a complete mess under the blaze of gunfire.

”Lin, it looks like your guess was right. These people are all from Heavenly Gate. Miss Nangong has probably been taken by them into the rainforest.”

Having just examined these people’s characteristics, Black Hawk recognized their affiliation with Heavenly Gate at a glance—a group all too familiar to him.

Watching Lin Zifeng silently leaning against an ancient vine-covered tree, smoking a cigarette, he knew that Nangong Bing’s capture weighed heavily on Lin Zifeng’s heart.

Having tracked the enemy all afternoon, it was clear that they were deliberately leaving clues, leading them here on purpose. Every time the Shadow Group lost sight of their target, someone from Heavenly Gate would appear to guide them.

It seemed that Heavenly Gate was intentionally drawing them deeper into the rainforest.

Only when the last group of Black mercenaries had been killed by evening did Lin Zifeng request to stop the tracking.

The enemy was deliberately luring them into the rainforest, and no one understood the dangers lurking within better than Lin Zifeng.

”We can’t keep chasing them,” Lin Zifeng said, his eyebrows slightly furrowed as he blew out a ring of smoke and contemplated. ”Heavenly Gate already knows that I’m back.”

”How could this be?” Black Hawk couldn’t comprehend how Heavenly Gate got the information about Lin Zifeng’s return.

”Heh, in fact, from the day I returned to the country, Heavenly Gate had already taken notice of me. What I can’t figure out is why they went through so much trouble. Is it just to lure me out?”

Now, Lin Zifeng couldn’t help but admire Heavenly Gate’s grand scheme. From the day he returned home, Heavenly Gate seemed to have already started their arrangements, but for what purpose had they drawn him into the rainforest?

Was it just to kill him?

Impossible! Unless the people at Heavenly Gate were all fools. If they really wanted Lin Zifeng dead, they wouldn’t resort to such petty strategies.

”So what if Heavenly Gate is setting this up? If it comes down to it, we from the Shadow Group will just have to fight them! Isn’t it just a life? Two years ago, Black Hawk was as good as dead. Surviving till now, I’ve already made enough.”

Black Hawk, who had a straightforward temperament and acted directly, unlike the calm Bu Chen, took a harsh drag from his cigarette and then ferociously crushed the remaining stub under his foot.

”Lin, what should we do next? Just keep chasing them like this?”

After a minor battle at dusk, Bu Chen, with his extensive combat experience, spotted something amiss. If they continued like this, he reckoned the whole Shadow Group might end up dead in this place.

”Do you have a better idea?” Lin Zifeng suddenly turned around and asked with a smile.

”No,” replied Bu Chen, shaking his head. ”We could deploy a few small teams to track them first. If we really can’t find Miss Nangong, then we will...”

Bu Chen also knew how much Nangong Bing meant to Lin Zifeng, but at the moment, there wasn’t much room for consideration.

Nangong Bing’s life was hanging by a thread, and even if it was risky, Lin Zifeng had to charge in.

The scene once again fell silent until after quite some time, Lin Zifeng indifferently nodded his head, patted Bu Chen’s shoulder, and said, ”You’re right. If we continue to follow the enemy, not only will we fail to rescue Nangong Bing, but all of us might end up sacrificing ourselves.”

”So what do you suggest, Brother Lin?”

Black Hawk and Bu Chen looked at each other at the same time, seemingly understanding something from Lin Zifeng’s words.

”The main force will stay behind, ready to move out at any moment. Tonight I’ll take a few people and head into the rainforest first. We don’t have much time now. I’m worried if we keep dragging this out, being misled by the enemy, not only will we fail to rescue anyone, but every member of the Shadow Group might end up sacrificing themselves.”

”Brother Lin, let me go in with you. I’ve had plenty of experience with battles in the rainforest before, and I understand its environment well,” Bu Chen eagerly volunteered.

”No! You stay behind. I’ve been through life and death with Brother Lin for so many years, and we’ve never been apart. We’ve experienced battles like this in the rainforest before. You stay here and lead the brothers of the Shadow Group well. If we all fall here, then there won’t even be anyone left to avenge us.”

After spending this period of time together, their relationship was obviously much better than before, to the point where they would trust each other with their backs,

”No! You must stay behind. I’ll go with Brother Lin. Jungle warfare is definitely not as simple as you think. I am especially familiar with it, and this rainforest is known as the world’s most secretive biological kingdom, full of countless dangers. I’m still counting on you to claim my body, should something happen,” Black Hawk said in a rough voice, which sounded almost like thunder.

”Stop arguing!” Lin Zifeng coldly swept his eyes over the two of them and said indifferently, ”Bu Chen stays, Black Hawk comes with me.”

”But...” Bu Chen was getting anxious.

”There are no buts, this is an order!” Lin Zifeng commanded authoritatively.

”Don’t worry, we won’t have any issues.”

At this moment, Lin Zifeng slowly walked towards the two hundred members of the Shadow Group. All the members of the Shadow Group stood up, and the gazes of hundreds were sharp as arrows, their killing aura enveloping the entire part of the rainforest like smoke from a wolf’s signal fire.

The hundreds were silent, and on every one of their faces, other than a stern air, there was hardly any expression as they stared straight ahead.

Through the trainings of this period, the Shadow Group had undergone a transformation. All these guys were the elite selected by the CIA initially.

Although they couldn’t yet match the Dragon Team, there was a faint trend of catching up.

If they survived this battle in the rainforest, even the Dragon Team might fear this group of men.

”I am now going into the rainforest, and I can’t guarantee if we can all make it out alive. But if you are willing to follow me, anyone who understands the skills for wilderness survival in the rainforest, step forward,” Lin Zifeng said coldly, sweeping his gaze over everyone present.

Indeed, as soon as Lin Zifeng finished speaking, several dozen young Shadow Group members slowly stepped out from the crowd.

The others did not speak, not because they feared death, but because many of them simply did not have the skills for wilderness survival.

Compared to a regular army, they still lacked in certain aspects.

”Do you all really understand wilderness survival skills in the rainforest?” Lin Zifeng asked. With the imminent entry deep into the rainforest, having someone familiar with wilderness survival skills by his side was crucial. In a place like the rainforest, even a small mistake could have fatal consequences.
