Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”She’s holding a grudge against me because of what happened with Vera,” Charles Prescott explained. ”I just... I thought that since she was with Nathan, she’d be content to have his child. I never expected her to cause this sort of trouble.”

”I don’t want to see her ever again!” Chairman Fawcett said. ”Find someone else. If she doesn’t want to have Nathan’s child, plenty of other women do! I just want an heir for my son. Is that so difficult?”

”It’s my fault,” Charles Prescott said. ”I’ll find someone new right away. Anne and I have a history of bad blood, so now she just wants to get revenge on the Fawcett Family.”

Chairman Fawcett glanced at him. ”Charles, you’re the one at fault here. I know you look down on the Sutton Family now. You feel they’re beneath your current status, and I can understand why you don’t want to marry her. But if you don’t want to be with her, you shouldn’t humiliate the girl like this. Handle things properly and calm her down. Tell me, what good comes from offending a woman? Don’t drag your personal problems into family affairs. You still have time, but Nathan... he’s running out of it. If we don’t hurry, when will he ever get to be a father?”

Chairman Fawcett lectured Charles Prescott, and Charles listened patiently.

He nodded. ”It’s my fault. I’ll go back and reflect on my actions.”

As he said this, he glanced at Nathan Fawcett, thinking, ’Nathan wants a child...’

’That’s probably going to be impossible in this lifetime!’

...

Charles Prescott looked at Chairman Fawcett and said, ”You’re not in the best health either. Why don’t you head back first? I can keep watch here at the hospital.”

Chairman Fawcett glanced at the butler, who said, ”Don’t worry, sir. I’ll be here to take care of Mr. Fawcett.”

Taking Charles Prescott’s advice, Chairman Fawcett stood up.

Chairman Fawcett walked out the door, with Charles Prescott seeing him off.

Anne Sutton hadn’t left yet. Seeing Chairman Fawcett, she walked right over to him. ”Chairman, how is Mr. Fawcett?”

Chairman Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton, ignored her, and walked straight past.

Anne Sutton tried to follow, but Charles Prescott blocked her path.

Anne Sutton stared at the man. ”Charles Prescott, are you insane?”

Charles Prescott turned back to look at her. ”Do you really think you can just meet with the Fawcetts whenever you please, without my help?”

”...” Anne Sutton looked at him. It was true; for all these years, the only reason she’d been able to meet anyone from the Fawcett Family was thanks to Charles Prescott.

Even her relationship with Nathan Fawcett had been arranged by Charles, though she wasn’t the person he had originally chosen.

Now, looking at this man, she felt a chill creep into her heart. ”Is this your way of completely blocking me off?”

Charles Prescott said, ”I warned you. I told you that staying by my side was your only way out, but you refused it yourself. Instead of worrying about Nathan Fawcett here, you should go home and think about what the Sutton Family is going to do from now on.”

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and realized the gap in power between them was simply immense.

Even if she held evidence that could prove her innocence, he could completely shut down any attempt she made to use it.

...

「The next day」

Anne Sutton didn’t go to see Sharon Sutton; she went straight to work at the hospital.

When she was in a bad mood, work was probably the only thing that could distract her.

Fortunately, she asked around and found out that Nathan Fawcett had woken up.

...

In the hospital room, Nathan Fawcett lay on the bed, looking completely listless.

He hadn’t expected to end up in the hospital last night.

He also never imagined that being with Anne Sutton would end with her making him so angry he coughed up blood.

The thought of her fawning all over him while secretly taking birth control pills was just laughable.

’Seriously...’

’There’s not a single trustworthy person in this world!’

The butler looked at him and said, ”Sir, would you like to eat something?”

Nathan Fawcett held the bowl and took a sip of the porridge. But having eaten Anne Sutton’s cooking every day recently, his palate had been thoroughly spoiled. He couldn’t stomach anything else.

He took just one mouthful of the porridge before feeling nauseated, immediately handing the bowl to the butler beside him. ”Take it away!”

”Does it not taste good?” the butler asked.

”If it’s so good, why don’t you eat it?” Nathan Fawcett glared at him. ”Where’s Anne Sutton?”

”I don’t know. Ms. Sutton is probably at work.”

”I’m in the hospital, and she doesn’t even know to come see me? She still has the nerve to go to work?”

He was the one who had driven her away, but the fact that she had actually left infuriated him.

Especially now, as he tasted this unappetizing food made by someone else, he realized he had spoken too harshly last night. He couldn’t leave this woman at all!

’She might be two-faced, but her cooking is delicious!’

The butler said, ”Mr. Prescott mentioned he’ll find another woman to have a child for you. Since Ms. Sutton is so awful, we’ll just get rid of her.”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett paused. ”Charles Prescott decided that?”

”He discussed it with the Chairman.”

At that, Nathan Fawcett let out a cold laugh. ”He’d be only too happy for me to ignore Anne Sutton, wouldn’t he?”

The butler continued, ”Mr. Prescott said Ms. Sutton is only with you to spite him. They were engaged for so many years, so they must have feelings for each other. He thinks Ms. Sutton probably still cares more for him in her heart. Otherwise, why wouldn’t she have your child?”

”...” Nathan Fawcett’s expression turned cold.

He said, ”As for having a child, it doesn’t matter to me who the mother is. But for some reason, I feel incredibly angry. The thought of her deceiving me like this makes me so resentful!”

’It must be because she was always so good to me, her act was just too convincing. That’s why I started to have expectations I shouldn’t have had.’

’That’s why finding out she was deceiving me made me this furious.’

The butler looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Mr. Fawcett, please eat something. Ms. Sutton probably won’t be coming over anymore.”

”...” Nathan Fawcett stared at the completely unappetizing food in front of him. ”I think you’re trying to starve me to death.”

The butler knew he had been furious yesterday, but seeing him like this, he wasn’t so sure anymore. ”How about... I go get Ms. Sutton?”

”You’re the one who said it, not me,” Nathan Fawcett shot the butler a glare.

Butler: ”...”

’Fine!’

’As long as his master was happy, what did it matter if he took the blame!’

...

「At noon」

Anne Sutton grabbed a quick bite to eat and returned to her office.

When she got back, she saw Wendy Chambers in her office.

Wendy Chambers was her colleague and her arch-rival at the hospital. A couple of years ago, the hospital was looking for a doctor with a good image to film a promotional video. Anne Sutton was chosen and Wendy was not, and she had held a grudge about it ever since.

Seeing her, Anne Sutton asked, ”What brings you here, Dr. Chambers?”

Wendy Chambers saw her and a smirk played on her lips. ”To gloat over your misfortune, of course, Dr. Sutton.”

She didn’t even try to hide her dislike for Anne Sutton.
