Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”I’m just surprised to see you.”

”This is my room.”

”But you never used to sleep here, did you?”

”...” Nathan Fawcett didn’t say anything. He was too tired today, so he hadn’t left.

Anne Sutton looked at him, reached out, and hugged him.

Maybe it was because they were together now. Even though she had no feelings for this man, he was still the closest person to her at the moment.

Nathan Fawcett sensed her dependence on him and frowned.

’Has she fallen for me?’

At this thought, Nathan Fawcett raised his hand and pried hers away.

He said, ”Don’t touch me.”

Hearing this, Anne Sutton looked at him and realized he found her utterly repulsive.

But she was stubborn by nature. She said deliberately, ”We’re already so familiar with each other. What’s wrong with a little touch?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Familiar? I’m not familiar with you. You’re just here to bear my child. Other than that, you and I are nothing to each other.”

”...” With just a few words, he successfully erased what little favorable impression Anne Sutton had of him.

Fine.

This man really was infuriating.

His only redeeming quality was probably his loyalty, and that was it!

Besides, she had indeed gotten ahead of herself, thinking that just because they had slept together a few times, they were now close.

After hearing what he said, Anne Sutton wasn’t angry. She simply rolled over to her side of the bed and went to sleep.

...

The next morning, Anne Sutton had to go to work.

She had already taken two days off, and today was her first day back.

She woke up early to make breakfast for Nathan Fawcett before she left.

She had just entered the hospital and changed into her work uniform when her assistant, Young, came over.

She said to her, ”Dr. Sutton, that Miss Warren is here again. She registered to see you.”

”...” Anne Sutton suspected Sylvia Warren was doing this on purpose just to spite her.

But nowadays, hospital appointments were all made through the official social media account, where patients could choose their doctor.

Hearing Young’s words, Anne Sutton felt a headache coming on.

Young said, ”What should we do? I think she’s deliberately trying to provoke you! Other pregnant mistresses would hide from the original partner. Who else would be as arrogant as her?”

Anne Sutton said, ”It’s fine.”

She arrived at her office and sat down.

Sylvia Warren had registered early, so she was called in soon after.

She saw Anne Sutton and said, ”Dr. Sutton.”

Anne Sutton stared at her and said, ”You look well today.”

Sylvia Warren said, ”I had a fall yesterday, and I’m a little worried, so I came to have you take a look. You’re a doctor. You wouldn’t neglect your own patient, would you?”

She was a returning patient, so... there was nothing wrong with her booking an appointment with Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton knew that when she mentioned falling, she was referring to how she had fallen during their struggle yesterday.

She said, ”Of course I won’t neglect you. Don’t worry, I’ll give you a thorough check-up.”

She had to deal with countless patients every day. She could handle this minor grievance.

Anne Sutton had no interest in scheming against Sylvia Warren. In any case, she and Charles Prescott were already broken up.

Now that she was no longer Charles Prescott’s fiancée, seeing this woman didn’t make her feel like such a fool anymore.

Sylvia Warren said, ”Is this how you talk to your patients?”

”I’m a doctor, not a waitress. I’m already being very polite to you.” After speaking, Anne Sutton wrote out a long list of orders for her. ”Go get these tests done.”

Sylvia Warren looked at her and said, ”Are you trying to get back at me by ordering so many tests on purpose?”

”A full check-up will give you peace of mind, wouldn’t it?”

Sylvia Warren wasn’t afraid, though.

It wasn’t like she was short on money.

She looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”It’s fine. I know you’re upset because Mr. Prescott yelled at you yesterday. I understand.”

”He yelled at me? Did he tell you that he yelled at me?” Anne Sutton asked, curious.

Sylvia Warren said, ”What else? This is his child, after all.”

Anne Sutton’s lips twitched. So that’s what Charles Prescott had told Sylvia Warren.

And Sylvia Warren actually believed him!

Anne Sutton said, ”As long as you’re happy.”

Sylvia Warren took the order forms and went to get her tests.

That day, Charles Prescott was at a university giving a lecture.

The Fawcett Group’s main business was in automobiles.

And Charles Prescott was the first person to propose the concept of self-driving cars.

The lecture was also being live-streamed online.

The audience below was filled with young women who felt like their hearts were about to leap out of their chests as they watched the handsome man on stage.

’How can such a handsome and outstanding man exist?’

Before the lecture was over, Sylvia Warren called.

Charles Prescott glanced at his phone, then stepped aside to answer it. ”What is it?”

”Honey, I came to the hospital for a check-up today. I fell yesterday, and I was so worried about our baby, so I came to get it checked out.”

”Didn’t I have Henry Underwood arrange for someone to go with you?”

He wasn’t there, but there were maids at home, so he had someone accompany her.

Sylvia Warren said, ”During my check-up, I ran into Dr. Sutton again. She ordered a whole bunch of tests for me. But I have to wait in line for all of them. What should I do? Can you help me figure something out?”

She was not about to wait patiently in line.

After listening, Charles Prescott said, ”I understand. I’ll have someone arrange it.”

With that, he hung up the phone.

...

Anne Sutton was still seeing patients. She had thought Sylvia Warren’s tests would take a while, but she returned surprisingly quickly.

Anne Sutton was very surprised to see her.

’So fast?’

Sylvia Warren walked over and said, ”Did you really think you could make things difficult for me like this?”

Anne Sutton said, ”That was quick.”

”Mr. Prescott called your dean, and the dean personally fast-tracked me. I didn’t have to wait in line at all.” Being Charles Prescott’s woman came with certain benefits.

Anne Sutton took the test results from her and glanced at them.

Sylvia Warren sat down in the chair, looked at Anne Sutton, and said, ”Dr. Sutton, for someone as young as you to reach your current position, it must be thanks to Mr. Prescott’s influence, right?”

Without looking up, Anne Sutton opened Sylvia Warren’s test results on her computer. She didn’t look at her. ”Even if I said no, you wouldn’t believe me.”

In truth, Anne Sutton couldn’t say for sure whether she had benefited from Charles Prescott’s connections or not.

She might have felt that she hadn’t, but that wasn’t the reality of the situation.

After all, she was indeed the youngest attending physician in their hospital.

She knew that Charles Prescott was very familiar with the hospital’s dean and several of her superiors. They would even get together for meals from time to time.

This was mainly because Nathan Fawcett had been chronically ill for years, and the staff at this hospital were all dedicated to his care. Therefore, Charles Prescott needed to maintain good relations with them.

Everyone knew about her relationship with Charles Prescott, so it was only natural that they gave her preferential treatment.

Sylvia Warren said, ”Of course I don’t believe you.”

Anne Sutton said, ”The test results show that you are in good condition. There are no problems. You can go home now.”

Sylvia Warren said in a snide tone, ”Oh, good, that’s a relief! If something had really happened, things wouldn’t have been good for either of us, right?”

Anne Sutton looked at this clown-like woman and said nothing.

Seeing this, Young quickly came over and escorted Sylvia Warren out.

Just as Sylvia Warren left, Anne Sutton’s phone rang. It was the dean. ”Sutton, let’s have dinner together tonight!”
