Medical Sage

”How would I know? Of course, I saw it with my own eyes. Is that so difficult?”

Chen Fei’s impassive gaze paused on both Jin Bingying and Li Binglie’s faces before landing on the incredulous and visibly excited Korean man, Yong Jun. He continued coolly, ”This is the third time I’m saying this. We have an old saying in Huaxia: ’Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. There won’t be a third time.’ What was your occupation before? You can tell us the truth now, can’t you?”

The interpreter was quite sharp this time, immediately translating Chen Fei’s words for Yong Jun.

This time, however, the man fell silent, a look of inner struggle appearing on his face, which shocked everyone present.

”My god, were those guys really lying before? He could see right through it? Since when was Huaxia’s Chinese medicine this incredible?”

”I’m more concerned if what Doctor Chen said is true. Did those two Koreans really misdiagnose him?”

”We’ll find out if we keep watching, won’t we? But judging by the situation, it’s highly likely…”

…

Similar discussions gradually filled the entire Stadium of Capital University.

Many people were expressing their opinions on the preceding scene. Only the small, conspicuous group of Koreans, who had been so eye-catching before, had now fallen completely silent. They subconsciously lowered their heads, not daring to meet anyone’s gaze, their faces burning with shame.

After all, if the prestigious Li Binglie from their Republic of Korea’s Qingnan Road Han Medical University, and the prodigy of Korean Medicine, Jin Bingying, had truly made a misdiagnosis—and for three long years at that—they would suffer a massive loss of face. More importantly, it was being exposed in front of the world’s media, shaming them before the entire world! It was a national disgrace.

Just then, Yong Jun had clearly made up his mind. He leaned in and whispered a few words to the interpreter. The interpreter’s expression instantly turned to one of shock and disbelief as he glanced at Yong Jun. Then, looking somewhat stunned, he approached Chen Fei and spoke in a low voice.

”Doctor Chen, can we speak privately?” he asked, turning off his microphone and lowering his voice.

”Is it...” However, Chen Fei interrupted him with a question of his own, mouthing the last word instead of saying it aloud. The word his lips formed was none other than ’nuclear’.

”Doctor Chen, you really saw it!?” The interpreter was completely startled, never expecting that Chen Fei had actually figured it out.

”I’m a doctor. Is it strange that I could tell?” Chen Fei retorted calmly. He then turned to the frantic yet desperate Jin Bingying and said slowly, ”By the way, now that you’ve misdiagnosed your patient, is there really any need for us to continue this competition?”

”You…”

Jin Bingying’s face flushed with rage. ”On what grounds do you claim I misdiagnosed him?” he bellowed. ”Prove it if you have any evidence! How do I know you didn’t conspire with him to frame me?” In his panic, this prodigy of Korean Medicine had begun to speak recklessly.

Conspire with him? Frame you?

”Do you think you’re a fool, or are all of us here fools?” Chen Fei replied mockingly. ”You’re the one who called him up here, and now you’re accusing me of conspiring with him?”

”I… I… Why can’t I say that? Let me tell you, don’t think you can spout nonsense just because you act all mysterious! Me, misdiagnose?! Do you have any idea who I, Jin Bingying, am? I am the most talented genius of Korean Medicine in the Republic of Korea from the past decade! What proof do you have? What gives you the right to accuse me of a misdiagnosis? Ridiculous!” Jin Bingying’s face went rigid as he began to shout, his expression turning ferocious.

Clearly, Jin Bingying, our great prodigy of Korean Medicine, was having a mental breakdown. That was why he was speaking without thinking. Was it really appropriate for him to throw a tantrum and argue so baselessly in front of the global media? Who was Jin Bingying anyway? Just another Korean. What was so great about him?

”Bingying, shut your mouth!”

However, Li Binglie from Qingnan Road Han Medical University, seated on the expert panel, was clearly far more reliable than his disciple with mediocre composure. He shot a fierce glare and barked out the order. Then, his gaze returned to Chen Fei, his expression slowly calming as he spoke with deep eyes, ”Young man, I admit that what you’ve said has begun to shake my prior conviction. Yong Jun’s past condition does indeed match your description. However, is that alone enough to make me, Li Binglie, admit to a misdiagnosis?”

An elder is an elder, after all. A grandmaster is a grandmaster, indeed. Even in such an unfavorable situation, he could remain so composed. Now that’s the bearing of a true leader!

In the eyes of Chen Fei, Young Master Chen, however, such posturing was entirely meaningless.

”Alright, since you want a clear answer, I’ll grant your wish. You, come down here,” he said faintly, beckoning to Li Binglie on the expert panel.

”Me? You’re asking me to come down?” Li Binglie was taken aback.

”Who else? How do you expect me to prove it? By continuing to argue with words? Elder Du, if you and the others are interested, you can also come down and take a look,” Chen Fei replied with a helpless expression, waving toward Elder Du’s group as well.

”Excellent! I’ll be right down.” Elder Du had long been thoroughly impressed by Chen Fei’s unfathomable medical skills, so he felt no resistance. Hearing Chen Fei’s call, he immediately agreed with a cheerful laugh. As a true practitioner of Chinese medicine, he was naturally eager to hear Chen Fei’s explanation of the patient’s skin disease. This was also a statement of his stance.

Seeing this, the other four Chinese and Korean medical experts on the stage exchanged glances. Then, almost in unison, they all rose from their seats and descended from the panel, making their way onto the main stage. For men of their status and age, such an act might have seemed ’beneath them’, but as doctors, their desire to observe the patient’s condition up close and in person was stronger. They wanted to hear what this young man, Chen Fei, had to say.

A moment later, all five experts had gathered on the stage. Jin Bingying, on the other hand, was squeezed off into a corner.

”First, take a look at this…”

Seeing all five experts assembled, Chen Fei acted decisively. He lifted the Korean man Yong Jun’s arm and, with his other hand, rubbed the surface of the afflicted skin with appropriate force. He cleared away the top layer of white scales, revealing the thin, membrane-like red skin underneath.

”Look closely. Can you see anything?” Chen Fei asked softly, pointing to the membrane-like skin.

”See anything?”

The Chinese and Korean medical experts all frowned in deep thought, taking the patient’s arm from Chen Fei to examine it closely. After a good seven or eight minutes, the somewhat impatient Elder Lu was the first to look up, his gaze filled with doubt as he addressed Chen Fei. ”Is there really something wrong here? It’s thin as pine bark, brittle as dandruff, with sieve-like points of bleeding. Even looking now, I still believe this is psoriasis.”

”And the rest of you?” Chen Fei said nothing in response, simply turning his gaze to the others.

”I agree. I also think this is psoriasis.”

”That’s right. I specialize in treating such difficult skin diseases. In my opinion, this is undoubtedly psoriasis.”

Two more experts, one of them Li Binglie and the other a Chinese medicine master, voiced their agreement.

”Kid, what else do you have to say? Don’t tell me you’re suggesting we all made a mistake?” Song Jinhu sneered at Chen Fei, his tone mocking and hostile. In his view, Chen Fei was just playing games with them. If this wasn’t psoriasis, what was it!?

”Wait, I feel like something isn’t quite right,” Elder Du suddenly interjected with a furrowed brow, carefully examining the patient’s affected area.

”Elder Du, are you serious? Is there really something wrong!?” Hearing this, Elder Lu’s expression changed, becoming grave. He clearly trusted Elder Du’s judgment; if he said something wasn’t right, then it was possible something was truly amiss.

But if that’s the case… does that mean all four of us misdiagnosed it?! This… that’s impossible, right?

”It’s purple.” At that moment, an exceptionally certain, aged voice came from beside them. Hearing it, all five experts froze.

”Muf… Master Muf!?”

In the next moment, apart from Elder Du, the other two Chinese medicine grandmasters wore looks of utter astonishment. They were incredibly shocked to see Master Muf Longkun here.

”You… you… you are…” As for Li Binglie, when he got a clear look at Muf Longkun’s face, he couldn’t help but be completely stunned.

”Master Li, what’s wrong?” Song Jinhu had an exaggerated expression, not understanding why Master Li Binglie, the esteemed Korean Medicine Master from the Republic of Korea’s Qingnan Road Han Medical University, would suddenly react this way. He clearly didn’t know who Muf Longkun was, but it seemed Li Binglie did.

”Song Jinhu-xi, be quiet!” Li Binglie snapped, a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. ”This is Doctor Muf, Muf Longkun. He is of the same generation as my own master, Che Zaihu. You… you… you came in person today, Elder Sir?”

His master, Che Zaihu, had died twenty years ago. Yet this man, his contemporary, was still alive and well. How could he not be shocked and terrified?

What the hell, are these People of Huaxia immortal monsters?! How old is he now? Over a hundred?

”What!? The same generation as the great Che Zaihu… Hiss!”

Hearing Li Binglie’s words, Song Jinhu nearly jumped out of his skin, his face and lips trembling uncontrollably. He didn’t know Muf Longkun, but of course, he knew Che Zaihu. He was the greatest Korean medicine practitioner in the Republic of Korea two or three decades ago, hailed at the time as the leader of Korean Medicine and a source of national pride. But hadn’t that master passed away in his eighties?

This… this… this has to be a fucking joke, right?!
