Medical Sage

But upon hearing Sunx Qinian’s words, Zheng Weiguo’s face remained utterly impassive; he simply offered a faint smile. Seeing this, a flash of rage swept across Sunx Qinian’s face, distorting his aged and wrinkled features, yet he still couldn’t bring himself to erupt.

Zheng Weiguo’s attitude had already made it clear that he was indeed targeting the Old Sunx Family, and worse, he had something on them.

”Bureau Chief Zheng, this move of yours is truly...”

Just then, Sunx Lie raised his hand to stop the visibly furious Sunx Qinian. Then, with a pair of unsettling eyes swirling with a faint black qi, he stared intently at Zheng Weiguo before suddenly shaking his head with a chuckle. ”Bureau Chief Zheng, you’re really putting our Old Sunx Family over the fire. If this gets out, our family’s reputation will be completely ruined.”

”Team Leader Sunx, you jest. Since I, Zheng Weiguo, have been fortunate enough to earn the leadership’s trust, I naturally have my own principles as an official. So, you two can rest assured that once the truth of this matter is verified, our Central Guard Bureau will handle it with the full force of the law! We will not allow the murderer to scorn the law and remain at large,” Zheng Weiguo said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, his pupils flickering.

”No wonder Old Master Xuu holds you in such high regard these days. Bureau Chief Zheng, you are truly a man of integrity! Since you’ve said so yourself, then very well, our Old Sunx Family will certainly take you at your word. Hopefully, we can all see a satisfactory result in the end. We’ll take our leave and won’t bother you any further.” After saying this, Sunx Lie actually stood up to depart.

”Wait, Old Five...” Seeing this, Second Master Sunx Qinian was stunned, not understanding why they were leaving now.

After all, they hadn’t gotten the person they came for, and on top of that, this little brat Zheng Weiguo inexplicably had evidence that could bring great shame to the Old Sunx Family. For a top Red Nobility family like theirs, what was most important? Without a doubt, it was one thing: face.

If word got out that his son had gotten involved with his own father’s mistress and had even openly hired an overseas Assassin Organization to kill someone… How utterly disgraceful would that be? It was something that could never be brought into the light.

So if they just turned and left now, what would become of that evidence?

”Second Brother, let’s go.” But in the next moment, Sunx Lie directly pulled him to his feet and dragged him toward the door. An irresistible force immediately swept him away.

Witnessing this, Bureau Chief Zheng Weiguo’s eyes narrowed slightly as he subconsciously muttered to himself. Could it be that the rumor is true?

At his level, at his height, he was of course well aware that besides the so-called Ancient Martial Artists, Ability Users, and high-tech cyborgs, there was another class of legendary and terrifying beings who reigned far above them, known as Qi Practitioners.

In history, they were acclaimed as the most legendary and great of the select few. They were few in number and highly mysterious, but exceptionally terrifying.

That was why, just now, when Sunx Lie had unconsciously displayed a technique that even he, an ss-Level Powerhouse, found somewhat incomprehensible—grabbing Sunx Qinian from afar while his back was turned—Zheng Weiguo felt a chill shoot from the soles of his feet straight to his scalp.

He recalled a rumor that circulated only within the Four Departments of Capital City.

The rumor was that Fifth Master Sunx, during the thirty years he had disappeared, was said to have caught the eye of a legendary Qi Practitioner, who took him on as a disciple and led him away for cultivation.

Only after three decades did Fifth Master Sunx Lie return, his training complete. He had also inexplicably become strangely and immensely powerful. Even Zheng Weiguo was daunted by him.

The Sunx Family has suffered a setback this time. I wonder if they will just let it go? After seeing off Sunx Qinian and Fifth Master Sunx Lie, Zheng Weiguo thought with lingering apprehension. It wasn’t that I felt incapable of contending with these second-generation elders of the Sunx Family, but I never expected them to walk away so cleanly after I played my first card, giving me no chance to counter. The more elusive something is, the more troublesome it becomes, isn’t it?

With this in mind, he simply picked up the phone and dialed a number. The call was for Old Master Xuu.

”Hello, Little Zheng? What’s up?”

As soon as the call connected, Old Master Xuu’s hearty laughter came through the receiver.

”Old Chief, a situation has come up on my end, and I felt it necessary to report it to you,” Zheng Weiguo immediately stated the purpose of his call.

”Oh? Let’s hear it. What’s the situation? Have those boys from the Sunx Family made a move?” Old Master Xuu asked, his voice rising with interest.

”Yes. A little while ago, Second Master Sunx Qinian and Fifth Master Sunx Lie from the Sunx Family’s second generation came by. They wanted to take the person we’re holding...”

Here, Zheng Weiguo paused slightly, his tone laced with hesitation and confusion. ”But as soon as I showed them the evidence I have, Fifth Master Sunx Lie just offered a few perfunctory words and left. I’m a bit unsure of his intentions, so I wanted to call and ask for your guidance, Old Chief.”

”Oh? Is that right? The evidence you have? What is it exactly?” Old Master Xuu’s voice on the other end was filled with curiosity.

”It’s proof that Sunx Long of the Sunx Family privately hired an overseas Assassin Organization to assassinate the person we’re holding. There’s also a video of Sunx Long with his father’s mistress... The person inside gave it all to us,” Zheng Weiguo answered truthfully.

”Absurd!”

Hearing this, Old Master Xuu couldn’t help but shout, his face stern. He then shook his head in disdain. ”These people nowadays, their very roots are rotten. To think they’d do something so preposterous, truly...”

Holding the phone, Zheng Weiguo felt a bit awkward. These people nowadays... wasn’t I one of ’these people’ as well?

”Alright, make some more preparations. I know that Sunx Lie. He’s a sharp one, with a short temper and a stubborn personality. He most likely won’t let this go so easily. It seems that boy will have to stay with you for a few more days. Hahaha, it’s a good chance for him to get his head straight,” Old Master Xuu laughed.

He guessed this was probably, no, *definitely*, Chen Fei’s first time being locked up. It would be good for him to collect his thoughts, sober up, and get a clear view of the situation.

”Yes, Old Chief, I understand. We’ll watch and wait,” Zheng Weiguo replied, immediately grasping the meaning.

”Mm, watch and wait...”

...

After Fifth Master Sunx Lie pulled Sunx Qinian out of the Central Guard Bureau, Sunx Qinian’s face immediately turned gloomy. ”Old Five, what was that all about? It’s one thing for that brat Zheng to disrespect our Old Sunx Family, but that evidence he has... If it gets out, where am I, Sunx Qinian, supposed to put my old face? What about the honor of our Old Sunx Family?”

”Second Brother, things aren’t as serious as you imagine. It’s just a bit troublesome, that’s all,” Sunx Lie replied with a placid smile.

”Not as serious as I imagine? What do you mean by that?” Sunx Qinian asked with a confused frown.

”The evidence in Zheng Weiguo’s hands was just for us to see. Otherwise, do you think he would have bothered being so polite and beating around the bush? It seems that this Chen kid really does have deep ties to the Xuu Family. Even the Central Guard Bureau is starting to take a side now,” Sunx Lie said slowly, narrowing his eyes.

He was well aware that matters like the one involving Sunx Long were not uncommon within the Forty-Nine City circle; it was just an unspoken rule that such things were never brought into the open, let alone documented with evidence. After all, at the end of the day, it was a personal matter. At most, the family’s reputation might take a hit, but how serious could the consequences be? Not very, certainly.

Therefore, for Zheng Weiguo to present this evidence now was undoubtedly his way of telling them that the Old Sunx Family was in the wrong first for hiring a killer. Thus, it was only natural for them to face retaliation later, and they had no one to blame but themselves. This was also a clear statement of attitude, indicating that the Central Guard Bureau was siding with that Chen kid.

However, what was the status and position of their Old Sunx Family? They were one of the top Red Nobility families in Forty-Nine City. Was the blood of the Sunx Family so easily shed?

”So you mean... then, Old Five, what do we do now?” Hearing Sunx Lie’s analysis, Sunx Qinian seemed to come to his senses. His brows furrowed deeply as he asked the question. If that kid truly had such a significant relationship with the Xuu Family, this matter was indeed rather troublesome.

”The key issue now isn’t what we should do,” Sunx Lie said, suddenly frowning. ”It’s figuring out who exactly is helping that kid from the shadows. We have to find out who is pulling the strings, or this will become very difficult.”

Sunx Qinian was initially dismissive. Who else could it be? At most, it’s someone from Xuu Wangyang’s generation helping that Chen kid. But then his expression suddenly shifted. He narrowed his eyes and said, ”Wait, Old Five, you’re not suggesting...”

”I seem to recall hearing a rumor that the kid is a Divine Doctor who once saved Old Master Xuu’s life,” Sunx Lie said, his eyes narrowed intensely.

”How is that possible!?” Sunx Qinian shouted, his wrinkled old face darkening. ”Think of Old Master Xuu’s status! How could some minor character ever get close to him? Besides, Elder Xunn Lun is right by Old Master Xuu’s side. If he were truly ill, why would he seek help from afar, looking for some twenty-something-year-old kid who’s still wet behind the ears?”

”But...”

Hearing this, Sunx Lie also frowned, conceding that his own idea seemed a bit far-fetched. Elder Xunn, as the esteemed Master of the Medical Sage Hall, possessed divine and peerless medical skills. If there was an illness even he couldn’t cure, then no one else could, unless it was someone from ”that side.”

Yet, even with that thought, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. It was as if... they had overlooked something.
