Medical Sage

”Do you often suffer from stomach gurgling, sweat profusely regardless of it being summer or winter, and experience acid reflux and nausea when it gets cold and humid?” After taking Huang Feng’s pulse, Chen Fei’s furrowed brow relaxed slightly as he spoke calmly.

”Doctor Chen, you’re amazing. Every symptom you described is spot-on.” Huang Feng was extremely impressed, even stunned and speechless.

As the saying goes, it’s easy to remain aloof when something doesn’t concern you directly. But when an issue personally affects you, the feeling is much deeper and more astonishing.

This stomach ailment had tormented him for several years, and he knew his own condition better than anyone. He never expected Chen Fei could describe all his symptoms with such accuracy just by taking his pulse, as if he had witnessed them firsthand. He was truly a Divine Doctor. From this alone, Huang Feng understood that Chen Fei’s medical skills were far beyond his imagination, making him a living Hua Tuo, a true Medical Sage.

”Doctor Chen, can my illness be cured?” he asked, looking at Chen Fei with hopeful eyes.

”Isn’t that a silly question?” Chen Fei couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Since they were the same age, he spoke more casually. ”Your stomach problem likely started when you were exposed to cold and then received improper treatment, which made it worse. Fortunately, it’s not too severe. I’ll give you one acupuncture session. After that, you’ll take two courses of traditional Chinese medicine at home, and it should be completely cured.”

”Really?”

Hearing Chen Fei’s confident tone, Huang Feng was immediately filled with confidence and quickly took off his shirt to make it easier for Chen Fei to perform the acupuncture.

As for Secretary Qian, he stood by silently with his head bowed, not daring to speak. He was an old subordinate of Huang Feng’s father and was well aware of Huang Feng’s condition. It was said that not even Elder Du from the Affiliated Institute of Traditional Medicine could completely cure it. Yet now, this Doctor Chen was confidently saying he could, and making it look easy.

Could his medical skills really surpass those of Elder Du from the Affiliated Institute of Traditional Medicine? That’s impossible, isn’t it? Elder Du is a renowned authority in the national medical community. I heard even many leaders from Capital City have sought his treatment. He’s considered a Medical Sage, more skilled than the private medical teams of many high-ranking officials.

However, he certainly didn’t dare voice his doubts now. He just watched quietly as Chen Fei began the procedure.

”The quality of these Silver Needles isn’t bad.” From a toolbox specially prepared for the clinic, Chen Fei took out a set of six silver needles. Although not a complete set, it was more than enough for his current needs.

He casually picked up a needle as fine as a strand of white hair and flicked the end with his pinky finger. It instantly let out a clear, resonant tremor as a faint glow visibly spread across it. Then, with a flick of his wrist, the Silver Needle shot like lightning into a point on Huang Feng’s abdomen three inches above his navel.

This fluid, graceful display left Secretary Qian dumbfounded. Even though he didn’t understand traditional Chinese medicine, the sheer skill of the display was enough to convince him that Chen Fei’s expertise was profound.

BUZZ!

Just then, Chen Fei inserted three more needles in quick succession. Each one was placed into an acupoint around Huang Feng’s stomach using a miraculous technique, at varying lengths and depths, causing Huang Feng to let out an involuntary moan of comfort.

Ever since he developed this chronic stomach cold, he had seen many doctors and tried both Western and traditional Chinese medicine, but he couldn’t recall ever experiencing such an immediate and tangible effect.

With every needle Chen Fei inserted into his acupoints, he could feel a warm current spreading from his stomach. The sensation was like basking his entire body in the sun, so comfortable that the frown etched on his face from tension smoothed away.

”Alright, sit here and don’t move. It should be done in about ten minutes. Who’s going to get the medicine?” Chen Fei said, speaking close to his ear.

”I will, I will! Leave a small task like that to me,” Secretary Qian immediately volunteered. Chen Fei wrote out a prescription and handed it to him.

At that moment, Huang Feng felt an incredible warmth spreading through his body. Even his stomach, which had been a source of constant discomfort for years, felt significantly better. What could be more convincing than witnessing such results with his own eyes?

In that instant, Huang Feng was completely and utterly won over by Chen Fei. He was nothing short of a Divine Doctor.

”Doctor Chen, if those people outside knew the real Divine Doctor of the city central hospital was in here, do you think they’d be kicking themselves in regret?” Huang Feng said excitedly, glancing at the long lines outside the other specialists’ consultation rooms.

”If we didn’t know each other and had no connection, you’d be just like them, refusing to believe in me, wouldn’t you?” Chen Fei glanced at him and shook his head.

”Er, that’s true...” Huang Feng was taken aback, because Chen Fei was right. If he had been a stranger with no prior connection, how could he possibly believe that a young man in his twenties was a supremely skilled Divine Doctor? He figured no one would believe it.

”Doctor Chen, I heard you were the one who treated Gao Jie. Given his current condition, how long will it take for him to recover?” Huang Feng asked, changing the subject to ease the slightly awkward atmosphere.

The Gao Jie he mentioned was Gao Zhinan’s son, who had nearly died in a street racing accident. Chen Fei had saved him just in time, and he was now probably recuperating at home.

”Oh, him? Gao Zhinan’s son?” Chen Fei said, recalling the case. ”If I remember correctly, his legs will need at least a hundred days to recover. After all, they say it takes a hundred days for bones and muscles to mend, so he needs to rest up.”

After saying this, however, something else seemed to occur to him. ”Little Feng, are you familiar with cars?”

”Cars?”

Huang Feng was startled for a moment, then replied in confusion, ”I know a little. Are you looking to buy a car, Doctor Chen?”

”Yeah. I’m staying at the California Garden Grand Hotel, and it’s inconvenient getting anywhere, whether it’s to the city center or to work here. So, I want to buy a car for commuting. It doesn’t have to be expensive, something in the tens of thousands to a hundred thousand yuan range will do,” Chen Fei said earnestly, a troubled look on his face.

”Ah? Tens of thousands to a hundred thousand?”

Now it was Huang Feng’s turn to look pained. ”Doctor Chen, with your status, how can you drive a worn-out car like that? It’s beneath you! How about this? I have an Audi A6 at home that’s just been sitting there, never driven. If you don’t mind, you can just take it.”

”That’s not right. I can’t accept a reward I haven’t earned. I don’t like taking things from people like that,” Chen Fei refused flatly. He just didn’t like it.

”But...”

Huang Feng tried to persuade him further. This wasn’t an unearned reward at all. Chen Fei had helped his father secure a massive investment, greatly increasing his chances of getting that position. Forget a mere Audi A6; even a luxury car worth millions wouldn’t be an excessive gift. Besides, there was still Uncle Gao. With Vast Sea Group’s assets of nearly two billion, what was a single car but a trivial expense?

”That’s enough. Let’s not talk about it anymore. We’ll talk about it later,” Chen Fei said, choosing to end the topic. He really disliked such arrangements. Otherwise, with the card Gao Zhinan had given him, he could have withdrawn thirty million. Why would he be agonizing over this? He could buy whatever he wanted.

”Doctor Chen, can you check if this medicine is correct?” Just then, Secretary Qian returned with the herbs.

”Huh? That was fast,” Chen Fei said, surprised.

Secretary Qian gave an embarrassed smile. ”I used to work for the Health Bureau, so I have a few acquaintances here. My apologies, Doctor Chen.”

Chen Fei instantly understood. He smiled without saying more, checked the herbs, and nodded. ”Alright, there’s no problem with this medicine. Go home, brew it twice a day. One course is seven days. You should be fully recovered after you finish it all.”

As he spoke, he removed the Silver Needles from Huang Feng’s body.

Huang Feng took the medicine, nodded, and stood up. ”Then, Doctor Chen, we won’t disturb your work any longer. But about the car...”

”Enough. I’ll look into it myself. Don’t meddle in my affairs,” Chen Fei said sternly.

”Alright then. Doctor Chen, we’ll be leaving now. Goodbye.” Hearing Chen Fei’s tone, Huang Feng didn’t dare press the issue again, lest his good intentions backfire and cause trouble.

「」

Once Huang Feng and Secretary Qian had left, Chen Fei stretched and leaned back in his leather chair, muttering to himself. Ah, this is a real hassle. Do I really have to borrow money from Gao Zhinan? But I don’t want to owe him that favor... Oh, whatever. I’ll get my driver’s license first and figure it out then. If push comes to shove, I’ll just borrow from him once. It’s not that big a deal.

In fact, he knew that for people like Gao Zhinan and Huang Feng, buying a car was a trivial matter. It was the same for him now; he could have one with a wave of his hand. It was his own principles that were holding him back.

Medical skills are meant for saving lives, not as a tool for accumulating wealth.

「Meanwhile, in the office of Vice Mayor Zhou Zhuo at the city government.」

The half-bald Zhou Zhuo leaned back in his leather chair with a cold sneer, listening to his secretary, Zheng Shuhan, give a detailed report.

After a moment, Zhou Zhuo stubbed out his Zhonghua cigarette and said coldly, ”So, you’re saying this kid is just some doctor who got connected with Huang Tao and Gao Zhinan simply because he happened to save Gao Zhinan’s son?”

As expected of a vice mayor’s secretary adept at navigating the web of official connections, Zheng Shuhan had managed to thoroughly investigate Chen Fei’s background in a single night.

As for Chen Fei’s position as an Associate Chief Physician at the City Central Hospital, it meant nothing to Zhou Zhuo. It wasn’t even worth his consideration.

”That’s correct, Mayor Zhou. Every word I just said is absolutely true. That punk has no real background to speak of, just a little medical skill,” Secretary Zheng affirmed.

”Hmph.”

Zhou Zhuo’s eyes narrowed involuntarily, and a cruel sneer appeared in his gaze. ”Daring to stab me, Zhou Zhuo, in the back... You’ve got some nerve, kid. Too bad you picked the wrong person to cross.”

He, Zhou Zhuo, the dignified Deputy Mayor of Northern Mountain City, had been stabbed in the back by a mere doctor. He was naturally displeased and couldn’t let it go. Even with his political rival Huang Tao backing the kid, he had no intention of dropping the matter so easily.

”Alright, you may leave now.”

He waved his hand impatiently, dismissing Secretary Zheng. Then he rose, walked to the window, and took out his phone. With a cruel expression, he made a call. ”Hello, Old Xu? It’s me, Zhou Zhuo...”
