Medical Sage

Although Deputy Mayor Huang was being sufficiently humble and grateful, Chen Fei couldn’t be bothered with him. He was completely drained.

Clearly, the method he had just used on Deputy Mayor Huang was no simple traditional medicine. It involved a mix of mystical and arcane arts that required him to use the Spiritual Energy of Cultivation in his body. However, he had overestimated his own strength and underestimated the severity of the man’s condition.

Simply put, Chen Fei was now too exhausted to say another word, his body devoid of strength.

”Rest well. In no more than three days, you should be able to leave the hospital,” Chen Fei said. Without waiting for Huang Tao to ask him to stay, he turned and left the operating room without another word.

Seeing Chen Fei emerge from the operating room with a pale face, Gao Zhinan, Feng Juan, and the others were all visibly shaken. Feng Juan couldn’t help but ask, ”Doctor Chen, how did it go?”

”There are no major issues left. After resting for a few more days, he can be discharged.”

Chen Fei spoke weakly, then nodded at them and said, ”Director Gao, Madam Huang, Young Master Huang, I’m a bit tired, so I’ll take my leave.”

”Doctor Chen, let me take you home.” Upon hearing this, Huang Feng immediately perked up and instinctively offered.

”No need, Young Master Huang. You should stay here and keep your father company,” Chen Fei said, waving his hand, clearly not wanting to be escorted.

”Doctor Chen, wait for me!”

At this moment, Gao Zhinan had recovered his composure and hurried to follow. ”Doctor Chen, it’s not appropriate for me to stay here either. Let me take you back; it’s on my way.”

”Then, alright…” Chen Fei was indeed too drained to refuse, so he agreed.

After Chen Fei and Gao Zhinan had left, the hospital staff transferred Huang Tao from the operating room to a high-class ward. Feng Juan, full of concern, turned to her husband. ”Old Huang, are you really all right? Doctor Chen said you can be discharged in a few days.”

”Yes, I’m fine now. Doctor Chen truly is a Divine Doctor,” Huang Tao said. Lying on his hospital bed, his mind replayed the day’s events, which had nearly overturned his worldview. He couldn’t help but sigh in amazement.

”That’s wonderful. If you only have to stay for a few days, it shouldn’t affect the matters you’ve been working on,” Feng Juan said joyfully, a massive weight lifted from her heart.

”Dad, is Doctor Chen really that amazing? I just heard the other doctors say your condition was very serious. They said that even with a successful surgery, you’d probably need to stay in the hospital for two or three months to fully recover,” Huang Feng suddenly interjected, his expression complex.

It seemed today’s events had shaken him deeply. His father’s and Gao Zhinan’s attitude toward Chen Fei, coupled with the man’s god-like medical skills, made him feel as if he had wasted the last twenty-odd years of his life. After all, he and Chen Fei were about the same age.

”Amazing? ’Amazing’ doesn’t even begin to describe Doctor Chen’s skills,” Huang Tao suddenly said, his voice filled with deep reverence.

”Old Huang, you…” Feng Juan had been with him for over twenty years and knew her husband well. She was surprised to hear him describe a young man in his twenties with such reverence. She found it incredible.

”Dad, is Doctor Chen really that impressive? Even you…” Huang Feng was also in shock, his face full of disbelief.

”Sigh, yes. I shouldn’t have had to suffer today. It’s a shame I didn’t take Doctor Chen’s words to heart. This is the result,” Huang Tao sighed.

”Dad, what are you talking about? I don’t understand,” Huang Feng asked, puzzled. His mother, Feng Juan, also looked confused.

”You probably won’t believe this, but tonight, when Old Gao and I went to the California Garden Grand Hotel for the charity gala hosted by General Chen from Liin City, we met Doctor Chen. He had Old Gao warn me that I should stay at the hotel for the night. Otherwise, he said, I might face a bloody disaster. I didn’t believe him and thought it was superstitious nonsense. And then this happened—I was just walking down the street and collapsed for no reason. Sigh!” Huang Tao explained, his expression complicated.

”Ah!”

Huang Feng and Feng Juan stared at each other, their mouths agape in disbelief. An inexplicable chill crept up their spines.

Meanwhile, Gao Zhinan had also left his bodyguard and driver at the hospital, telling them to take a taxi home. He then respectfully assumed the role of Chen Fei’s chauffeur, preparing to drive him back to the hotel to rest.

If anyone else had seen this, their jaws would have dropped and refused to close.

Who was Gao Zhinan? He was the head of the Vast Sea Group, one of Northern Mountain City’s leading corporations. Yet now, he was acting as a chauffeur for a man in his twenties. This was the kind of treatment that not even the city’s department heads or ordinary deputy mayors likely received.

This just showed how deeply the day’s events had shaken Gao Zhinan. It wasn’t just Deputy Mayor Huang; Gao Zhinan himself now felt a profound sense of awe for Chen Fei.

Humans are always innately fearful of the unknown and mysterious.

”Doctor Chen, thank you so much for tonight. It was a great imposition, having you come over so late to treat Old Huang,” Gao Zhinan said cautiously as they drove.

”Saving a life comes first. I am a doctor, after all. I have my ethics,” Chen Fei said weakly, waving his hand. He already looked much better than before, as if he had recovered some of his strength.

Then, Chen Fei suddenly asked, ”Is Deputy Mayor Huang trying to get a promotion?”

Gao Zhinan was stunned for a moment before nodding. ”That’s right. I heard from Old Huang that there’s clear news from the provincial government about promoting our mayor, which will leave his position vacant. Old Huang is the Executive Deputy Mayor, which makes him the logical successor. Naturally, he wants to vie for the position. At his age, if he can secure the mayoral position, he could climb even higher in the future. However, if he fails this time, it will significantly impact his political career.”

He paused for a moment, then added, ”But I’ve heard that Secretary Mo intends to promote his own confidant, another one of our city’s deputy mayors, Zhou Zhuo. He’s a half-rank lower than Old Huang, though, and not an executive.”

”I see.”

Chen Fei nodded and then smiled. ”Director Gao, you must be hoping Deputy Mayor Huang succeeds this time.”

”Of course. If Old Huang succeeds, I’ll move the Vast Sea Group headquarters here. After all, with him around, life would be easier for me,” Gao Zhinan admitted with a smile, not trying to hide anything.

It was true. Huang Tao was his backer. If Huang could advance further, it would be tremendous news for both him and his Vast Sea Group. He was naturally very hopeful.

”Deputy Mayor Huang is a good man. Perhaps he’ll succeed this time,” Chen Fei said with a smile. If Huang Tao really succeeds this time, it might be a good thing for me too. After all, we have a good relationship now, and I did save his life.

”Let’s hope you’re right, Doctor Chen.” Gao Zhinan immediately beamed, as Chen Fei’s words inexplicably gave him a great deal of reassurance and confidence.

Then, his eyes flickered, and he asked hesitantly, ”Doctor Chen, may I ask where you’re staying now, if it’s convenient to share?” He suddenly recalled seeing Chen Fei in the hotel lobby earlier, carrying some luggage. That’s why he couldn’t help but ask. Don’t tell me Doctor Chen doesn’t have a place to stay?

”My lease expired today, so I’m crashing at your hotel for the night. Why? Don’t tell me I’m not welcome, Director Gao?” Chen Fei replied playfully.

”Doctor Chen, what are you talking about? Forget one night—it would be my honor if you stayed at the hotel permanently!” Gao Zhinan replied nervously.

”Relax, I’m just kidding. Don’t be so serious, Director Gao.”

Seeing this, Chen Fei could only laugh wryly and change the subject. ”This car of yours is quite nice, Director Gao. How much did it cost?”

As a businessman heading the multi-billion-yuan Vast Sea Group, Gao Zhinan naturally drove a high-end car. The vehicle they were in now, for instance, was a Bentley Mulsanne business sedan worth five or six million. Such a luxury car was naturally impressive, and the ride was exceptionally comfortable.

”Only a few million. If you like it, Doctor Chen, I’ll have someone order one for you from the Capital City immediately. It should arrive in about ten days,” Gao Zhinan said excitedly, eager to cater to his tastes.

For someone of his stature, a few million was nothing. If he could use it to build a good relationship with Chen Fei, it would be an incredibly worthwhile deal—one he was more than willing to make.

”No, thanks. That car doesn’t suit me. I don’t want to have to hire a chauffeur,” Chen Fei immediately refused. Are you kidding me? The car is nice, but it really doesn’t suit me. You’d need a chauffeur to make it look normal. Otherwise, people would probably think I was the chauffeur. It’s just not necessary.

”Then…” Gao Zhinan started to say, but Chen Fei cut him off.

”That’s enough, Director Gao. If I want a car, I’ll go look for one myself. Besides, didn’t you give me a card I can use to withdraw thirty million from you at any time? Anyway, I’m tired. Let’s drop it,” Chen Fei said.

Hearing this, Gao Zhinan could only let the matter drop.

Soon, they arrived at the California Garden Grand Hotel. Chen Fei got out of the car and went straight up to the presidential suite to sleep. He was truly exhausted.
