Medical Sage

”Young Master Feng, my brother’s a bit slow on the uptake and misspoke. Please don’t take it to heart.”

Upon hearing what Chen Fei said, Slickhead’s expression changed. Gritting his teeth, he stepped forward to apologize on his brother’s behalf.

Putting aside that the man was Huang Feng—the son of Deputy Mayor Huang, the fourth-highest ranking official in the city—Slickhead knew Xiaao Ming best. Even though Xiaao Ming’s family wasn’t based in Northern Mountain City, his influence here was still astounding, more than enough to land them in inescapable trouble.

Xiaao Ming’s originally cheery face suddenly turned somber. He silently glanced at Huang Feng, seemingly waiting for his response.

After hearing Chen Fei’s words, Huang Feng couldn’t help but squint. After a long moment, he finally broke into a smile and spoke in his usual amiable tone, ”What’s all this talk? Since I’m the one asking Doctor Chen for treatment, of course, I have to wait until he’s available. Doctor Chen, when might you have time to look at my condition?”

Hearing this, Chen Fei’s impression of him improved considerably. He replied with a smile, ”The day after tomorrow, then. If you’re free, Young Master Feng, you can find me in the cardiovascular department of the City Central Hospital. I’ll be seeing patients there.”

”Seeing patients at the City Central Hospital’s cardiovascular department!?”

As soon as Chen Fei said this, everyone, from Huang Feng’s group to Slickhead, was taken aback.

They knew, of course, that the City Central Hospital was the city’s landmark top-tier hospital, its reputation even eclipsing the renowned Affiliated Institute of Traditional Medicine. Chen Fei was so young, yet he was qualified to consult and treat patients at such an establishment—it was simply unbelievable.

”Da Fei, you’re not joking, right? The cardiovascular department is the ace department of the City Central Hospital! To consult there, you have to be at least an associate chief physician... are you really...” Slickhead was so shocked by Chen Fei’s statement that he completely forgot Huang Feng and the others were even there.

He had graduated from the same university medical program as Chen Fei. Although his own medical skills were mediocre, he at least understood how things worked in their profession. Even the professors who had taught them probably didn’t have the credentials to get into the City Central Hospital, let alone its ace unit—the cardiovascular department.

Da Fei, you... The shock in Slickhead’s heart was already beyond words, his mouth hanging agape.

”I told you I’m doing well for myself. The City Central Hospital is my turf now. If your jewelry store ever goes under, just come find me. I’ve got your back, haha,” Chen Fei joked.

Just as he finished speaking, the manager arrived with the clothes. When his gaze swept over Huang Feng, however, he was visibly startled and immediately greeted him respectfully, ”Young Master Feng, good to see you.” It was clear he recognized the son of Deputy Mayor Huang.

Seeing this, Huang Feng smiled. ”Doctor Chen, are you going to try on your clothes? We won’t disturb you any longer, then. See you the day after tomorrow. I’ll personally pay a visit to the City Central Hospital.” With that, he turned and left with Xiaao Ming.

”See you again, Doctor Chen,” Xiaao Ming said with a grin before leaving, cozying up to Chen Fei while also trying to win over Hua Zhinan. ”And Hua Zhinan, let’s keep in touch. We’ve been friends for so long, we should hang out more so we don’t drift apart.”

Da Fei, you... If Xiaao Ming had tried to cozy up to him like this in the past, Slickhead would have been over the moon, possibly too excited to sleep at night.

After all, Xiaao Ming’s family was deeply involved in the jewelry business, and they often had to curry favor with them. If his boss found out about this connection, he would undoubtedly shower him with praise and rewards.

However, all this pleasant surprise was eclipsed by the shock Chen Fei had given him. The surprises from his brother today were truly astonishing.

”Don’t overthink it,” Chen Fei explained, seeing the shock on Slickhead’s face. ”It’s just that Gao Zhinan’s son was in a landslide accident and nearly died. I happened to be there and saved him. He probably gave me this card out of gratitude.”

”In a landslide and nearly died?” Slickhead was stunned. ”He must have been seriously injured! You can even treat something like that?”

While Slickhead was dazed, Chen Fei had already tried on the suit the manager brought. Feeling good in it, he urged his friend, ”Let’s go. How’s this suit? It’s about time for our get-together. They should be long gone by now. Come on, let’s head to Red River Restaurant.”

”Oh, okay. Let’s go then,” Slickhead said, finally snapping out of his daze. He followed Chen Fei as they left the third floor of Splendid Sky City.

After they were gone, Huang Feng and Xiaao Ming emerged from a corner near a restroom on the third floor. It turned out they hadn’t left the mall at all.

”Young Master Feng, why did you accommodate him? He seems to be just a doctor, probably without much real ability,” Xiaao Ming said, looking puzzled at the departing figures of Chen Fei and his friend.

Apparently, he had sharp ears and had overheard Chen Fei’s explanation to his brother, which brought him to a sudden realization. They all knew Gao Zhinan had only one son. Although the boy was a good-for-nothing, he was precious to his father. If Chen Fei had saved his life, it made sense that a grateful Gao Zhinan would give him a top-tier VIP card.

”Don’t underestimate doctors,” Huang Feng said, his eyes glinting and his words carrying weight. ”Elder Du from the Affiliated Institute of Traditional Medicine, Dr. Liu, and Dr. Xu from the City Central Hospital... these are all people even my father treats with courtesy and respect. These days, who can guarantee their family won’t suffer a major illness? Finding a true Divine Doctor is far more useful than knowing a bunch of profligate sons.”

He then pressed a hand to his stomach and muttered, ”This illness of mine has tormented me for a very long time. Even Elder Du is at a loss, only able to prescribe some mild medicine for recuperation. If that kid can really cure me, then I, Huang Feng, will owe him a huge favor.”

Xiaao Ming finally understood. Indeed, who can guarantee they’ll never get sick? If his medical skills are truly that miraculous—enough to handle a patient so severely injured that even the top experts at City Central Hospital are helpless—then as long as there’s no conflict of interest, we absolutely can’t afford to offend him. After all, you never know when you might need his help. If that day comes, it could be a matter of life and death.

”Oh, by the way,” Xiaao Ming said, ”I think I heard them say they were going to Red River Restaurant. Isn’t that place run by your family?”

”Don’t worry, Young Master Feng, I know what to do.”

「...」

Splendid Sky City wasn’t far from Red River Restaurant, as both were in the city center. It didn’t take long for Slickhead to arrive in his Mercedes.

”Yo, isn’t that Slickhead and Da Fei? You’re here!” As soon as they got out of the car, a hearty, slightly surprised voice called out from behind them. They turned to see a man with a buzz cut, thick lips, and a denim outfit—it was their old schoolmate, Zheng Kaige.

He hadn’t interacted with them much back in school, but it had been a long time, and they were happy to see him.

”Hua Zhinan, is this your car? Not bad at all, driving a Mercedes. Unlike me, still slaving away in a taxi all day, dead tired,” Zheng Kaige said enviously.

Although he had also graduated from the medical department, his weak foundation and lack of connections meant he couldn’t dream of getting into a decent hospital. For now, he was making a living driving a taxi.

However, with its decent income, he was still considered one of the more successful ones among their classmates.

”Hey, Chen Fei, Hua Zhinan, Zheng Kaige, you’re all here! Hurry inside, everyone’s waiting,” a young woman with stylishly permed, ash-blonde waves called out to them from the entrance of Red River Restaurant, tottering on high heels. Her call instantly drew their gazes.

That’s Zhao Le, our old class Art Commissioner. She’s gotten even more beautiful.

Zheng Kaige stared at his old classmate in amazement before approaching her. ”Art Commissioner Zhao, I can’t believe you’ve gotten even more beautiful in just a few months. This is a real surprise, haha.”

”I didn’t think you’d become such a smooth talker. That was always Hua Zhinan’s strong suit,” she said with a giggle. ”Alright, since everyone’s here, let’s not just stand around. Our class president has booked two entire tables at Red River Restaurant. Apart from those who left Northern Mountain City right after graduation, pretty much everyone else is here. Come on, let’s go inside.”

As she spoke, she shot a deliberately flirtatious glance at Hua Zhinan, her eyes having lit up the moment she saw the Mercedes behind him.

A few months is neither long nor short. For the elites from prestigious universities, some might have already made a name for themselves. But for them, graduates of a niche department from a Third Tier teachers’ college with no family backing, most were doing quite average.

In this context, Hua Zhinan’s Mercedes was extraordinary, making him seem head and shoulders above the rest.

After all, anyone who could afford such a car, which cost three to four hundred thousand on the road, had to have assets in the seven figures. And that was more than enough to stir up envy and a few schemes among them.
