Medical Sage

The next morning, with the sun already high in the sky and bathing the earth in warmth, Chen Fei woke up lazily. He dazedly got out of bed and brushed his teeth.

He had to admit that he had been overconfident last night when treating Deputy Mayor Huang. He had overestimated his own abilities and underestimated the severity of the man’s illness. By forcing the treatment, he had overdrawn his Spiritual Energy, which had yet to recover even now. Otherwise, he never would have woken up so late. After all, he usually got up very early every morning for Cultivation and physical exercise.

After freshening up, Chen Fei grabbed his luggage and pushed open the door to his room. He was ready to leave, grab some food, and then find a place to rent, since he was scheduled to start seeing patients at the city center hospital the next day and wouldn’t have any spare time for these things then.

Just then, a gentle voice came from outside the door. ”Hello, sir, are you heading out to eat?”

A beautiful woman, about 1.67 meters tall with a voluptuous figure, stood respectfully outside his door. She was dressed in a hotel manager’s uniform.

She’s beautiful. Chen Fei couldn’t help but marvel to himself.

”And you are?” he then asked.

”Hello, sir. I’m the manager of this hotel. You can call me Lily,” the manager said with a lovely smile. ”Director Gao instructed me last night to see if there’s anything you need.”

As she spoke, she secretly sized up Chen Fei, her beautiful eyes brimming with curiosity. What kind of person is he? To have Director Gao of the Vast Sea Group personally drive him here and then give special instructions to fulfill his every request, no matter what it is, as long as the hotel or the Vast Sea Group can provide it? She had seen it all happen last night.

”Last night... doesn’t that mean you didn’t sleep at all?” Chen Fei asked, looking at her with some surprise. ”It’s alright, don’t worry about me. I’m about to leave anyway.”

”Please wait, sir. Director Gao had a message for me to give you,” the manager said. ”He said that if you don’t mind, you could just stay here at our hotel. He believes it would be much better than any place you could rent outside.”

After relaying the message, she found herself feeling rather puzzled. Why would someone who is qualified to stay in our hotel’s presidential suite, and is treated with such respect by Director Gao, need to go out and rent a place to live? It’s so strange.

”Stay here?” Chen Fei murmured, falling silent as he hesitated.

He couldn’t deny it; this was the presidential suite of the most luxurious Five-Star Level hotel in Northern Mountain City. It was incredibly convenient, with everything he could possibly need, and he had slept very comfortably last night. Compared to his previous ’doghole’, it was worlds better. But if I continue to stay here... money isn’t the issue. The main thing is that I would owe him a big favor, and that’s an outcome I don’t want.

”Sir, Director Gao also wanted me to tell you that it’s only a presidential suite. It’s really not a big deal. Please don’t overthink it. Just stay,” the manager said again. Her words made Chen Fei pause, and then he made up his mind.

”Alright, then. Could you please take my luggage back to the room for me? I’m going to find something to eat now,” Chen Fei agreed. He casually set down the luggage he was holding and walked toward the elevator with a smile.

”Sir, the restaurant is on the third floor! They serve meals twenty-four hours a day, and you can dine for free with your presidential suite room card!” the manager shouted after his departing figure. She then carefully carried his suitcase back into the room as if afraid of damaging the contents.

Clearly, she didn’t know that the suitcase only contained a bunch of cheap, smelly clothes and pants that weren’t worth much at all.

A short while later, Chen Fei was having breakfast in the California Garden Grand Hotel when his phone rang. The caller ID showed an unfamiliar number. He picked it up, puzzled. ”Hello? Who is this?”

”Hello, is this Chen Fei? It’s Murong Shan. I’m the one you saved outside the job fair a couple of days ago.”

A pleasant voice came from the other end of the line, and its words made Chen Fei freeze. Murong Shan... from a few days ago... isn’t that... A stunning figure immediately appeared in his mind: the fashionable and gorgeous beauty he had saved outside the job fair. She had seemed quite wealthy, too, driving a Maserati.

”Oh, it’s... I, I’m Chen Fei,” he stammered, his face suddenly blushing for no apparent reason. ”What can I do for you?”

”Well, I wanted to thank you for saving me that day, so I was hoping to treat you to a meal. I was wondering, do you have time today?” the delicate, bell-like voice asked.

”Ah, you want to treat me to a meal?”

”What’s wrong, Mr. Chen? You don’t have time today?” The bell-like voice sounded a bit dejected and disappointed.

”Ah, ah... *cough, cough*... I have time! I have time!” Chen Fei quickly recovered, coughing a couple of times to cover his awkwardness. ”Miss Murong, will it be for lunch or dinner today?”

A stunningly beautiful woman is asking me out to eat. How could I refuse? That would be a heavenly crime!

”Please, Mr. Chen, just call me by my name. You saved my life, so there’s no need to be so formal. I might have something to do tonight, so how about noon? I’ll wait for you in the business district. Just give me a call when you’re on your way.”

”Alright, sounds good.” Chen Fei hung up.

Looks like my luck is pretty good today, Chen Fei thought proudly as he got up from the dining table. Since they were meeting for lunch, he figured he should head over now. It was a bit of a distance to the city center’s business district, and the bus would probably take half an hour. Plus, he didn’t have a car.

Maybe I should buy a car? With this in mind, the idea of purchasing a car suddenly struck him. After all, if he was going to be staying at the California Garden Grand Hotel long-term, having his own car would be far more convenient.

Northern Mountain City was comprised of five districts and six counties. The California Garden Grand Hotel was located right on the border between the city’s western Silver Beach Area and the more rural Yunlong County. As a result, there were very few bus stops nearby, especially for routes heading into the city proper. There were only four or five lines, and the stops were always packed with people, which naturally created opportunities for those with ill intentions.

「On a particularly crowded bus bound for the city center.」

The moment Chen Fei boarded, he saw a shifty-looking man skillfully squeezing his way into the crowd. The man’s target was a well-dressed but seemingly dazed young woman. He reached for the small red purse at her waist, but his hand was only halfway there when someone else spotted him. ”Watch out, there’s a pickpocket!”

”Ah! You dare try to steal from me?” The young woman glanced over and instantly became furious. Like an enraged lioness, she raked her long fingernails across the man’s face.

The sudden commotion startled the driver, who immediately pulled the bus over to the side of the road and looked back.

”You’ve got some nerve, stealing in broad daylight on a bus!” someone shouted. Hearing the cries, the other passengers instantly understood what had happened. Several people with a strong sense of justice stepped forward, ready to take the sleazy man to the police station.

”I’d like to see which one of you bastards dares to meddle!” But the sleazy, pockmarked man suddenly pulled a switchblade from his pocket and snarled viciously. The would-be heroes stopped in their tracks.

Clearly, while they possessed a sense of justice, it was one that existed within the limits of their own safety. Dealing with a ruthless thug was one thing, but facing one with a weapon was another matter entirely. The sight of the switchblade filled them with a genuine fear that left them stunned and intimidated.
