Chapter 1482: Chapter 30: The Red Flag Rises Under the Night Sky (Part 3)

Petrov said, ”We have different principles and can’t work together. Although, Commander, you’ve been good to me, I must save Ukraine. Hence, personal feelings aren’t discussed in the face of the greater good.”

Hearing Petrov’s righteous speech, Malele sneered and asked, ”Do you really think the Labor Party can bring a future to Ukraine, worth sacrificing yourself for them while neglecting personal ties?”

Petrov responded, ”Actually, I don’t know if the Labor Party can truly lead the masses to transform this hopeless country, as they claim. But many of their policies are clearly beneficial to the people.”

”Moreover, even without the Labor Party, I’ve completely lost faith in the current Ukrainian government; they’re simply puppets supported by Germany and Austria-Hungary.”

”This so-called puppet government is riddled with corruption, bureaucracy prevails, and they disregard the people’s lives. The entire country is fragile like decayed wood eaten away by worms.”

”Therefore, rather than salvage it, it’s better to overthrow and start anew. That’s why I chose to cooperate with the Labor Party. At least, despite their shortcomings, they are much stronger than the insects in the current Ukrainian government.”

After listening to Petrov, Malele fell silent because what Petrov said was indeed true. In fact, even he had lost hope in the current Ukrainian government.

As a high official in Ukraine, Commander Malele was well aware that the current Ukrainian government was like mud that couldn’t be propped up, even worse than during the Tsar-era.

Of course, although he had no hope for the Ukrainian government, he also looked down on the Labor Party’s rabble.

Malele remarked, ”The Ukrainian government is indeed, as you said, a pile of decayed wood. However, the Labor Party organization may not necessarily manage a country well. When I was young, I was ambitious too, but upon reaching a high position, I realized governing a country isn’t easy.”

Petrov shook his head and said, ”I also don’t know what a Labor Party-led country will be like, but it’s worth trying; it surely can’t be worse than the current situation. At least they are willing to change, whereas the Ukrainian government is a bunch of parasites just waiting for a meal and doing nothing. Under their control, Ukraine has no future.”

”Alright, enough idle talk, Commander Malele. I hope you’ll cooperate with our actions, cease all military activities of the Thirty-Seventh Division, and assist us in controlling the high ranks of the military.”

”We do not wish to cause a massacre in Xiqueslav City.”

Faced with Petrov’s words, Malele didn’t immediately agree due to fear for his life but asked, ”How many people are involved in your operation?”

Petrov replied, ”In addition to myself, there’s Lieutenant Colonel Maureen Kuzov, meaning we have nearly four thousand troops. The Labor Party also organized over ten thousand workers in the city. Without surprises, they should have already captured the arsenal with Lieutenant Colonel Maureen Kuzov’s coordination.”

”Thus, the Thirty-Seventh Division is already powerless to reverse the situation. The Xiqueslav City Government has also fallen, and even if some choose to resist, the ultimate result will be defeat by us and the tens of thousands of workers.”

Upon hearing this, Malele knew that the tide had turned. After all, with the command post under Petrov’s control, the loyal Ukrainian troops were only about eight thousand strong, leaderless, and facing a well-planned Labor Party, their chances weren’t high.

After contemplating for a moment, Malele felt as if all his strength was drained. He slumped into his chair and said, ”Alright! You’ve won. Next, I will cooperate with you, cease all military activities of the Thirty-Seventh Division, and transfer the command to you.”
