Chapter 1475: Chapter 28: Frontline Battlefield_2

This is also one of the main current sources of ammunition for the Ukraine army, but if the puppet government in Ukraine cannot re-establish its own national defense industrial system, then these stockpiles in the coming period will only be consumed with every battle.

The frontline Russia Red Army command is very clear about this point. However, although Ukraine lacks a complete military-industrial system, behind them stand several imperialist great powers, especially Germany and Austria, both of which possess very powerful military-industrial production systems.

Therefore, a Russia general said: ”Judging from the current situation, unless we can find a way to quickly break through the Donbass defensive line, we may fall into a stalemate like the long-term confrontation between Germany and the Allies on the Western Front back then.”

”The difficulty lies in the fact that the Donbass defensive line constructed by the puppet forces is already quite solid, and at the same time they are not lacking in weapons, ammunition, and all sorts of supplies needed for war. They have the foundation to wage a long-term trench war.”

”This is absolutely not what we want to see. After all, if we cannot annihilate even Ukraine’s puppet forces at the very first moment, then once other imperialist countries recover their strength, it cannot be ruled out that they might send troops into Ukraine. If things really reach that point, it will be greatly unfavorable to us.”

Just as this Russia officer said, the war in Ukraine cannot be dragged out. Russia urgently needs to open up the situation; otherwise, the longer it drags on, the more the balance of forces will tilt against the Russian Labor Party regime.

Yet at present, facing this mode of trench warfare, no one has a truly workable method—unless we commit more troops; but the casualties and losses caused in that case would also be enormous, and the Russia generals are not willing to shoulder such risks.

This has led, for the time being, to the war falling into a stalemate, and news from the front was delivered to the Kremlin in the second half of the night.

Because of the war, Comrade Vladimir, who had already been working overtime frequently, was now even more sleepless through the night. When the first day’s frontline battle report arrived, he hurriedly examined it in detail.

Joseph, wearing a worried expression, said to the Supreme Leader: ”Right now, the situation at the front is not optimistic. Under the trench warfare pattern, Poland and Ukraine, which are on the defensive, enjoy great advantages.”

”Our army has been unable to break open the situation, and according to their assessment, if we want to break through the enemy’s defenses without paying an enormous price, there is only one relatively reliable approach: to use more large-caliber artillery to lay down heavy fire over the military defense lines built by the puppet governments in Donbass and elsewhere, until they are completely destroyed.”

”However, our national defense industry has in fact already reached its limit, and this is also a result of previous domestic policy.”

Although he is Vladimir’s right-hand man, there are still differences of opinion between Joseph and Vladimir.

For example, Vladimir’s New Economic Policy runs quite counter to Joseph’s thinking. Joseph’s proposal is to concentrate the strength of the entire country, and through strict planning and administrative directives, give priority to building the national defense industrial system and heavy industry, stabilizing Russia’s security situation first.

And Vladimir’s New Economic Policy is essentially a policy of recuperation. Before Russia’s economy regains its vitality, Vladimir does not wish to stir up major disturbances. After all, the Russian people, having gone through the World War and the civil war, are already too exhausted.

As for the causes of this war, they lie entirely in the imperialists first carrying out massive armament programs for Ukraine, Poland, and other countries, thereby threatening Russia’s national security and the strategy of the Russian Labor Party. Thus, based on the situation, Vladimir believes this war not only must be fought resolutely, but must also be fought as a quick war.

However, the first day of fighting has now already shown that the goal of achieving a rapid victory militarily is almost impossible to attain.

Vladimir said to Joseph: ”Comrade Joseph, I know you are very anxious right now, but don’t be anxious yet. Your temperament, like your disposition, is somewhat too intense, but at times also too hesitant.”

”I do not dare claim that every one of my orders is correct. Just as when we implemented the wartime economic policy: after the civil war ended, we did not adjust it in time, which led to confrontation between the peasants and the government.”

”And as for how this war will end, none of us can be one hundred percent certain about its course and impact. Yet as far as I am personally concerned, this war is one that inevitably must be fought, and fought resolutely—it cannot not be fought.”

”Because it concerns not only Russia’s own security, but also the development of the world Labor Party movement. One could say this war will determine whether the world Labor Party movement can become even more mighty and tumultuous.”

”If we succeed, it will be a tremendous inspiration for Labor Party members all over the world, and will stir more people of insight to join in this great undertaking that will change the fate of the world’s proletarians.”

”As for the policy issues you mentioned: since we have already acted in this way, it is impossible to make adjustments in a short time at this juncture. Yet I actually believe there is no need to immediately adjust the New Economic Policy; at least the mood of the domestic masses at present tells us that doing so is correct.”

”We cannot rigidly go against the will of the people. Doing that would mean becoming detached from the masses, which runs counter to our original intent.”

”Regarding the frontline military concerns you are worried about, I also want to say that to draw final conclusions based solely on developments on the first day is pessimism, and as a Labor Party we must always maintain an optimistic attitude.”
