High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1300: Chapter 47: The Great Big Wizard

”The benevolent do not worry.”

”The virtuous have no cause for shame.”

”Sister Korma would not be troubled for shattering a Trickster’s dreams, nor feel guilty for using a Trickster in experiments, nor feel remorse for teaching Sacrificial Magic.”

”I would not either... Just like this world beneath our feet, my state of mind would not fluctuate even if I had just destroyed hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of souls.”

”This is neither callousness nor abnormality.”

”It is because we are driven by higher ideals and beliefs.”

”This is very important.”

”Upon the path of magic, you will encounter increasingly cruel, obsessive, and paradigm-shattering occurrences. You will face more and more choices. Often, these choices are dilemmas. Making the right choice is more important than learning a powerful spell.”

”If you wish to be truly kind, you must be blameless. This is not only a matter of behavior but also a matter of having an open heart.”

”With an open heart, the inner demons will retreat, and the sacred heart will be prepared.”

The teacher instructed carefully, and Zheng Qing bowed to receive the teachings, recording everything in his notebook. The emerald feather pen had never drunk ink so eagerly.

After a long time, when Zheng Qing’s wrist was sore from writing, he finally finished recording the teacher’s words, let out a satisfied sigh, and put away the feather pen.

The teacher had been very patient while he took notes.

”That will be all for today’s lesson,” the teacher said to the young wizard as they walked a few steps across the desolate world. ”Is there anything else you would like to ask? If not, the class will be dismissed.”

Zheng Qing quickly flipped through his notebook and soon noticed a question he had marked earlier.

”I have one.” He raised his hand, hesitating for a half-second before finally asking according to the notes, ”I’m not sure if it’s just an illusion... When I was at the Gini Cottage, I always felt that in that hall, Sister Korma seemed a bit... um, ’big.’ I mean, big in the conventional sense.”

Seeming to feel that his explanation was a bit foolish, and unable to find a suitable adjective, he even spread his arms wide to demonstrate the size.

This gesture made him look even more foolish.

The teacher couldn’t help but smile—a smile that unexpectedly revealed a hint of satisfaction.

”Very good, very good,” he nodded in approval. ”A very keen observation... Even many Registered Wizards in the school would hardly notice such subtle differences... Simply put, this is the result of the combined effect of a Big Wizard’s ’aura’ and ’reach’ in a normal environment.”

Zheng Qing gasped lightly.

To think just a ’simple explanation’ could be so convoluted—imagine if it were a complex explanation, wouldn’t that be another lesson in the Philosophy of Magic?

Though he complained inwardly, he swiftly picked up the feather pen again and turned the notebook to a blank page.

The teacher glanced at him and raised his hand to stop the young wizard’s action:

”This is a bit of extracurricular knowledge, no need to take notes, just knowing is enough.”

”Have you ever considered the origins of the names for the different realms of wizards—such as the Registered Wizard, called so because wizards of this rank are officially registered in the Mage Alliance and receive special protection, unlike the North District Mages who are abducted by Black Wizards for experiments; Legendary Wizards are called legends because their names have spread to the Deeps of Starry Sky, creating ’a legend’ and profoundly affecting a segment of space-time history.”

”And the reason why Big Wizards are called ’Big’ is not only because their magic power and knowledge surpass those of Ordinary Wizards, earning them the title ’Master’, but also because once wizards reach this realm, they need to solidify their True Form.”

”The True Form of a wizard is enormous, thus they are called ’Big Wizards’.”

Zheng Qing’s eyes were wide-opened as he received this succinct explanation—he had never realized that the ’big’ in Big Wizard contained such a foundational meaning.

At the same time, the young cost student recalled some beings introduced by his teacher in the past.

He looked up at the sky—since this was the deepest layer of the New World, it did not reflect the Starry Sky; therefore, all Zheng Qing saw was pitch darkness—Zheng Qing clearly remembered the teacher mentioning that the Outer Gods were a group of beings whose ’self-concept’ expanded infinitely, unable to be contained by the World, and ultimately had to flee to the Starry Sky.

From this perspective, the Outer Gods seemed to conceptually overlap with Big Wizards.

But the teacher had also mentioned that the Outer Gods were essentially beings that transcended legends.

The boy shook his head vigorously, feeling a bit dizzy.

The teacher smiled.

”Yes, the Outer Gods are like that too.” He pointed his finger a few times into the void, and suddenly, a piece of Starry Sky emerged in the originally deep sky:

”The ’concept of existence’ of the Outer Gods is also vast, but unlike the Big Wizards or Legendary Wizards, Outer Gods cannot control their own size. The aura of Dao around them contaminates any wizard who casually observes or comes to understand them, making them a part of their ’Dao’.”

”Being able to control the flow of one’s own Dao aura... controlling one’s own size, that is what qualifies someone as a real Big Wizard.”

Hearing this, a sudden thought emerged in Zheng Qing’s mind.

When he transformed into a Black Cat, he could also change size at will, and the ’power’ of the Black Cat would increase or decrease depending on the size of its body.

”You’re thinking correctly,” said the teacher, always able to easily understand the young wizard’s thoughts, nodding, ”When you use the transformation spell, you break Mendel’s Paradox ... this is the effect of the ’Order’ seed ... accordingly, that seed will also give you some characteristics of a Big Wizard, Legendary Wizard, or even an ancient wizard during your Ordinary Wizard stage—but just characteristics.”

”Like a traveler on the road.”

”An ordinary traveler only has a faintly visible road base underfoot; but under your feet, the road has been compacted with yellow earth, paved with asphalt, and even equipped with street lamps. As long as you honestly follow the ’road signs’, you can go a very long way.”

The young cost student quietly swallowed his saliva.

For a moment, he felt his chest filled with immense joy, as if he could float away. But looking up at the blinking ’stars’, he immediately remembered that he was still coveted by Outer Gods performing subtractions, and by thirsty Demons, deflating the balloon in his chest with a few pricks, hissing out.

”But my road has robbers... and passing jackals, wolves, and tigers,” he sighed.

The teacher, with a stern face, seemingly pulled out a ruler from nowhere and knocked the boy’s head three times:

”Every person walking on the ’Dao’ inevitably encounters robbers, tigers, and leopards, as well as pain, thirst, and hunger. Compared to others, you are already lying in a carriage advancing forward. Laozi once said: ’There is no greater sin than desire, no greater disaster than discontentment, no greater fault than wanting to get. Hence, knowing the sufficiency of sufficiency is always sufficient!’”

Zheng Qing humbly held his head and accepted the lesson.
