Chapter 1275: Chapter 22 Out of Control

Albani grabbed Oleg’s arm, and Oleg, ever kind-hearted, supported him.

To him, Albani’s condition seemed to be the legendary ”magic backlash”—although the North District Mages did not have much ability to use magic, they were still endlessly fascinated and delighted by the concept of magic.

According to rumors in the North District, a wizard that failed in casting a spell would suffer from magic power’s backlash, ranging from minor symptoms like complete exhaustion and profuse sweating to even life-threatening danger.

So when Albani’s face turned pale and he staggered back a step, Oleg, out of a sense of loyalty, extended his arm.

Brothers stand against each other, but unite against a common insult.

Oleg originally wanted to joke with Albani, teasing him about being ”not full in one bottle, yet swaying half-full,” daring to scare people on the streets without fully mastering the spell.

But before the joke could leave his mouth, he keenly sensed something was wrong.

The grip Albani had on his arm was too strong.

It was as though he wanted to crush Oleg’s arm bones!

”Help me,” Albani murmured, his voice like a whisper, indistinct, ”Helping me is helping everyone, helping the North District... I can’t do it alone.”

”What are you talking about?” Oleg grimaced in pain, taking a sharp breath, ”Where did you get such strength!”

Then he saw Albani turn his head, his eyes red, his expression fervently fixating on him.

”Just this once,” there was pleading, fierceness, and guilt in Albani’s eyes, ”just this once.”

He repeated this phrase, and the black spell mark on his forehead suddenly brightened intensely, like a huge vortex, enveloping both their figures. Within the depth of the vortex, countless souls could be seen struggling, and distant wails from the end of history could be heard.

Oleg’s expression twisted from a smile to shock, then turned to anger, and finally to sheer terror.

His mouth opened wide, as though he wanted to say something, but the effect of the spell mark far exceeded a Mage’s resistance. In just a moment, perhaps even less, this tall and robust North District dock leader was engulfed by the massive vortex.

His skin turned from smooth to shriveled, and his whole body seemed to have been dried out like a fruit, shrunk into a clump.

Until the end, not even a shriveled fruit remained, the powerful devouring capability of the spell mark was like a gigantic mill, grinding the withered fruit bit by bit into dust.

Hush.

The cold wind at the street corner swept up, lifting the white powder into the air, fluttering about like early summer snowflakes, the wind whistling mournfully, the snowflakes pale.

Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu watched this scene in shock, rendered speechless.

This sudden scene had completely exceeded the imaginations of the two young wizards.

Wasn’t it just a minor street conflict?

How could it have escalated to this extent!

The Mages watching from the shadows on both sides of the street were evidently more capable of accepting this cruel reality than the two young students from the First University and quicker to recover from this tragedy.

Silently, like the tide receding, the Mages in the shadows faded away. The prickly feeling of being watched that Zheng Qing had felt the entire time also vanished at the same moment.

”You, what did you do?!” The young cost student, Zhang, opened his mouth wide, taking a moment before finally speaking out, his voice rough with emotion as he yelled, ”What did you do!!”

”It was all your doing,” Albani’s magic book shone brightly in his hand, his face bearing a mixture of crying and laughing, grotesque, ”...It was always your doing, all along...”

”He’s gone mad, don’t mind him,” Jiang Yu, while preventing Zheng Qing from moving forward, pulled him back and whispered, ”Let’s retreat back to Jini Cottage first.”

As if to illustrate her words, the frail Northern District Mage across the street suddenly threw back his head. His eyes rolled back, and his head fiercely twisted backward, making one suspect he wanted to snap his own spine.

His arms slightly retracted and spread open, like the wings of a bird, his fingers curled, unable to grasp or unfold. The tattered law book that had been clutched in his hand finally escaped the confinement of his fingers and fell silently to the ground.

Thud.

The dull sound of it hitting the ground was like a starter pistol.

The shot rang out, and darkness descended.

The little mushroom people that had filled the street, bubbling with sunlight, melted like snowmen doused with boiling water, turning into wisp after wisp of faint light and vanishing into the decaying streets of North Beta Town.

Nightfall enveloped the world again. Apart from the slightly glowing law book in Jiang Yu’s hand, only the coldly radiant figure of the Northern District Wizard could be seen clearly.

Yes, it.

Zheng Qing would absolutely never admit that the ”being” across the street was still a conscious wizard.

The young student watched helplessly as the Northern District Wizard slowly floated into the air. Behind him in the void, dozens of wildly flailing tentacles of black apparition emerged. Atop the tentacles, a massive, cloud-like mass of flesh intermittently visible, dripping with viscous saliva from a large mouth, faint yet distinct against that twisted backdrop.

Zheng Qing had personally experienced this mad, distorted power just yesterday.

Jiang Yu felt the same way.

”Outer God!”

”It’s an Outer God!”

The two exclaimed simultaneously, their voices laced with bitterness.

”I’ll hold it off, go find Sister Korma for help!” Jiang Yu threw Zheng Qing back without looking back, ”You don’t have a law book or charm gun, you’re of no use staying here.”

The statement was correct and made sense.

But Zheng Qing couldn’t just abandon the witch and flee to safety, nor could he watch the witch stand in front of him, shielding him from harm.

It wasn’t about weighing pros and cons; it was a matter of a young man’s pride.

”Yesterday, I exploded, so I left you guys there,” the young man said softly, stepping back over to Jiang Yu’s side: ”Today, I definitely won’t leave you... not until I blow up.”

Perhaps finding his words amusing, Jiang Yu let out a strange sob.

After such gallant words, one must take action.

Despite his bravery, Zheng Qing had no intention of recklessly confronting the Outer God’s projection head-on—although he still couldn’t understand how a minor Northern District wizard had managed to provoke such a terrifying creature, now was not the time to ponder that.

In panic, his hand dipped into the grey cloth bag, feeling something stiff like cardboard, and sensing the magic power flowing through it, he instinctively pulled it out—thinking it was some amulet he had shoved in the bag and forgotten.

After taking it out, he realized it was the red paper position.

It bore the character ”Wu,” a talisman Zheng Qing used to improve his success rate in talisman painting. Of course, due to superstitions, he had scarcely used this position since starting university. The last time he utilized it was last year in the Wandering Bar, while painting a Clear Heart Symbol for Li Meng, with Jiang Yu also present.

Seeing Zheng Qing pull out this position, the witch seemed somewhat disheartened.

She had thought the young man might produce something much more potent.

Perhaps a strand of fur from a Yellow Flowered Cat.
