High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1276: Chapter 23 Rules

Nearly a year since he entered the school, Zheng Qing was no longer the clueless beginner, Xiao Bai.

Several encounters with the Outer Gods had given him a crystal-clear understanding of how the school and the Wizard World dealt with them—any situation that could be resolved in one second would not be delayed to the next. There was no room for compromise, negotiation, or coexistence.

Moreover, the experience from those brief interactions had made him all too aware of the dangers of the Outer Gods. They were a group with no morals or values, whimsical to the core. Their mere existence posed a risk of collapse for Ordinary Wizards.

And the collapse wasn’t just about losing control of their Magic Power; it included cognitive, soulful, and even physical destruction.

Like the one before him now.

Zheng Qing believed that if those swirling tentacles in mid-air reached just a bit further, destroying the entire Beta Town might be a challenge, but annihilating the North District and this street would definitely be feasible.

Yet, stopping this behemoth with just two first-year students was nearly impossible—even if they weren’t ordinary first-year students.

After pulling out the red paper position, the image of his master immediately appeared in the young cost student’s mind, bringing him much comfort. Yes, his master was so powerful, sure to effortlessly dispatch this Outer God.

Night fell, wrapping everything in dim shadows.

The red paper position emitted a faint glowing light in the darkness. Zheng Qing could clearly feel a massive yet sluggish stream of Magic Power flowing from it.

The character on the position, written as ”上口下天,” forming ”Wu,” somehow transformed into the sounds ”rules” as Zheng Qing read it aloud. He had clearly intended to say ”master,” and he was thinking of his master, yet the words seemed to slip out of his control, converting into a different term as they left his lips.

”Rules!”

The young man unconsciously stretched out his hand holding the red paper position towards the wildly thrashing Outer God as if what he was gripping was not just a piece of cardboard, but a remote control.

”Bang!”

The red paper position shattered explosively between the characters for ”rules,” transforming into a ball of dazzling red mist.

This ball of mist, initially the size of a fist, pulsed slowly like a heart, each expansion producing a dense puff of red mist that captured and enveloped the original mist cloud, causing the ”heart” to suddenly expand.

Repeating this process, within a few moments, as the lingering sounds of ”rules” gradually faded, the ”heart” had grown to the height of a man, ceasing its pulsation. The red mist coiled and weaved through the ”heart” like dragons and snakes, quickly sketching a blurry silhouette.

It was the shadow of the master.

Just as Zheng Qing realized the identity of the silhouette, it lifted its arm, pointed at the lethargic Outer God nearby, and uttered two words:

”Rules!”

These words echoed down the street like a muffled thunder, shattering all frivolity and debauchery. The windows along the street shattered; the wind chimes hanging from the eaves, along with the alchemical figurines of koi, bulls, and seahorses perched above, were pulverized by the sound waves.

The Outer God’s shadow writhed in agony within the darkness, its many gigantic tentacles sweeping madly around—shops, sculptures, street signs, paved stones, and the withered old trees by the streets—all dissolved like spring snow under their touch, while the tentacles themselves turned into black smoke under the force of ”rules.”

As ”rules” receded the darkness, daylight emerged, cleansing the world of all Evil Spirits.

When Zheng Qing opened his eyes, squinted against the overwhelming brightness, all was serene before him.

The young cost student licked his lips, feeling a tingling sensation akin to an electric shock as his tongue touched the air.

”Hiss...”

The Warlock drew a sharp breath and glanced around—Jiang Yu stood beside him, her posture somewhat stiff, her face still wearing an expression of astonishment.

”This... must have been its Self-Destruction...”

Zheng Qing looked at his companion and asked in an uncertain tone.

Jiang Yu’s mouth opened and closed like a dehydrated goldfish, and after a long while, he responded, ”What do you think?”

”Believe it or not, I certainly do,” Zheng Qing forcefully stated.

He would absolutely not associate himself with the destroyed street in front of him. Moreover, he planned to sneak away while there were no bystanders around and then find Korma to cast some divination-avoiding spells on them.

But evidently, the two had been standing around at the scene for a bit too long.

Before Zheng Qing could drag Jiang Yu three meters away, an orange and white colored Flower Cat suddenly appeared in front of them.

Zheng Qing immediately stopped in his tracks.

The Yellow Flowered Cat chased its tail, spinning around in place a few times, and its head swelled to the size of a winter melon in frustration.

”Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”

It glared with its amber eyes, looking around as though it couldn’t believe what it was seeing, ”Is this Beta Town? Beta Town of Buji Island? Where’s the street? The long one with houses and trees? Where are the people? Are there no living people left?”

Zheng Qing tried to speak, to tell Brother Huang that he was still a ’living person,’ but Jiang Yu pinched his arm, silencing him.

The Yellow Flowered Cat didn’t even bother responding, it lifted its paw, plucked out one of its eyeballs, and tossed it into the air.

The eyeball swelled in the wind, transforming into a small, round moon that hung in the sky, illuminating the area bright as day, allowing Zheng Qing to finally see the street clearly.

It was very dark earlier, so he could comfort himself by thinking that the situation might not be that bad.

But with the moon suspended in the sky, Zheng Qing could no longer deceive himself — it couldn’t be worse — the empty ’square’ had no people, no street trees, and not a single house.

”I thought I’d never see the scene from yesterday in my entire life,” Jiang Yu’s voice rose beside him, sounding a bit numb, ”...I was too optimistic.”

Zheng Qing lowered his head and gave an awkward smile to the Yellow Flowered Cat.

”One day!”

It raised its paw, extended a claw, and roared at the young cost student with its one-eyed gaze, ”It has been less than a day since you blew up the forest! Are you planning to blow up the entire school to be satisfied?!!”

”Never seen before! Never witnessed!”

”More detestable than Fence Fairies!”

Fence Fairies were a group of magic Elves, fond of spitting stinky saliva and farting foul gases, standing no taller than three feet, and their status in the Wizard World was akin to stinkbugs and cockroaches in commoner society. The Yellow Flowered Cat using Fence Fairies to describe Zheng Qing showed how terrible its mood was.

The tips of the cat’s claws shimmered with a cold light in the night, causing Zheng Qing’s hair to stand on end, fearing Brother Huang might punch seventeen or eighteen holes in him in displeasure.

The young cost student took a small step backwards, avoiding the drool sprayed from the Yellow Flowered Cat’s mouth.

”This was all ’passively’ done,” he swallowed nervously and murmured, ”I didn’t have any malicious intent... I didn’t intend to blow up a street... I thought I was pulling out a talisman board...”

Indeed, whether it was the Silent Forest or the current North District street, the young cost student never had the subjective intention to destroy them. ’Destruction’ belonged to a passive skill.

Realizing he might have said the wrong thing, he corrected himself immediately:

”Besides, what does this have to do with me? It might have been that Outer God who blew it up... just like yesterday.”

The Yellow Flowered Cat didn’t speak, it only stared evilly at him with its amber eye.
