Chapter 1274: Chapter 21 North District Magic

”Where do you want to take us?”

”To a place where facts can be judged.”

”You’re not from the Trident Sword, nor are you from the Beta Town Management Committee, nor are you from the enforcement team of First University.” Zheng Qing shook his head, refusing the request of Albani, the wizard from the Northern District, and emphasized,

”On the contrary, I am a cost student at First University, I had the right to handle conflicts within the campus... although I don’t plan to use that right now.”

Whispers emerged from the shadows around them, Albani’s originally pale face reddened, and the frog in his hand was being squeezed so much that its tongue stuck out, its eyeballs nearly popping out of the sockets.

”You know, we can use force,” he said in a raspy voice, pulling an old law book from his belt with his other hand.

”You know, we also have the right to resist,” Zheng Qing replied somewhat humorously, reaching into the grey cloth bag and then embarrassingly realizing he had no law book to use.

His law book was tied with a belt and stuffed into the deepest part of the grey cloth bag; he had intended to find some time to talk to his mentor about this. As for his charm guns, both of them had been confiscated.

In other words, aside from a few charged talisman papers, the young cost student now had no convenient ability to cast spells.

Just as he was feeling awkward, a law book appeared in front of him.

Jiang Yu held her law book up between them, repeating what the young man had just stated:

”We can leave identification, and you can file a lawsuit with Beta Town, but you have no right to detain any student from First University unilaterally. It’s against the rules.”

Albani’s reddened face slowly returned to normal.

The euphoria and levitation that came with his ability to cast spells gradually dissipated, and reason was struggling back into his mind. This newly appointed Northern District Wizard realized that a real wizard, or rather, one from First University, unlike the tricksters of the Northern District, wouldn’t show fear upon seeing a wizard capable of casting spells and comply with all his arrangements.

This put Albani in a difficult position.

Letting these two students leave would definitely cause the image he’d hardly built up today to crash down. People of the North District would think he was just like them, afraid to provoke wizards – and what’s the difference between sacrificial magic and trickery if wizards can’t be provoked? This was not in line with the mission given to him by Gini Cottage.

Gini Cottage had tasked all wizards who obtained a spell mark to promote this new type of magic in the North District. Due to terms like ’spell mark’ and ’sacrifice’, many conservative North Districts people were still watching. According to the North District people’s plain and sensitive understanding, spell marks were tools for soul control, and sacrifice was making deals with the devil.

Indeed, they wanted the ability to cast spells, but if it required conditions linked to ’selling the soul’ or ’making deals with the devil,’ it would still make people hesitate.

Today, Albani demonstrated his newfound ability to cast spells everywhere, managing to spark envy in some people. If he were to be despised due to tonight’s conflict, a fall for him was not a big deal, but delaying the mission of Korma the Wise would be unforgivable.

But to stop these two students from leaving—

Albani looked down at the old law book in one hand and then at the frog he was squeezing in the other. It was only then that he discovered the frog was nearly squeezed to death, and he quickly loosened his grip.

The frog that narrowly escaped death quickly retracted its tongue, puffed up its cheeks, and a tear trickled down from the corner of its eye.

The newly appointed wizard of the Northern District didn’t have the confidence to defeat the two students from First University.

”Dong Dong...”

The heavy footsteps broke the silence in the room and also interrupted Albani’s thoughts. Turning around, he saw Oleg grinning at him, displaying a mouthful of blue teeth.

Those were the kind of teeth one would have only from drinking the ’real’ Sea Monster Langmu. The Sea Monster Langmu available on the market was distilled from seaweed, but there were always some merchants who wanted to earn some extra money by mixing a few ounces of real sea demon blood into the Sea Monster Langmu, selling it at a high price. Those who drank this kind of Sea Monster Langmu would have blue teeth, just like the color of sea demon blood.

Of course, many tricksters couldn’t afford real Sea Monster Langmu. However, to save face, some would discreetly chew on Blue-tailed Sea Scorpions while drinking—to paint their teeth blue with the venom from the insect’s tail, which was minimally toxic and slightly stinging in their mouths, blending peculiarly with the spicy Sea Monster Langmu.

But chewing on Blue-tailed Sea Scorpions too often could lead to cold disease, causing bone pain all over in older age, and in severe cases, even their spit would turn into icy bumps. The tricksters of the Northern District lived uncertain lives, so few could reach an age to spit ice bumps; hence, this drinking method gradually spread.

Albani didn’t like drinking, so he couldn’t tell if Oleg’s teeth were stained with sea demon’s blood or the Blue-tailed Scorpion’s venom.

But he could distinguish the goodwill and malice on a person’s face.

At this moment, Oleg’s face was filled with goodwill.

”I can tell, you are people who abide by the rules,” said the rugged-looking ’big bear’ slyly, looking at Zheng Qing with deep sincerity, ”but you can’t deny that you’ve hurt this innocent bystander.”

Saying so, he pointed towards the vagrant lying at his feet and continued:

”The neighbors are all here; how about we settle this privately as witnesses?”

He was trying to smooth things over.

Zheng Qing hesitated for a moment and glanced at the witch beside him. Jiang Yu slightly nodded; she also thought settling this trouble with some gold beans was the best option.

But before they could speak, the Northern District Wizard took a step forward, blocking ’big bear.’

”You have your rules,” he growled fiercely at the two students from the First University, ”and the Northern District has its own rules... This is not a problem that can be solved with gold beans.”

He absolutely wouldn’t allow the ’big fool’ beside him to regain the face lost that morning. It would make the ’Northern District Wizard’ look useless and only incite trouble within.

Before he could finish speaking, a glint of light flashed across the curse mark on Albani’s forehead, and the frog in his hand opened its mouth wide; its flesh visibly shriveled at an observable pace and instantly turned into a pile of ashes that fell.

”Ge Zhitianxi!”

The Northern District Wizard shouted, and a dull glow emerged from the law book in his hand, a force filled with aggression eager to burst through the book’s binding and charge towards the two young men opposite him.

But after leaping about for a while, the magic power remained within the book; it didn’t burst forth but gradually extinguished between the flickers, like a motorcycle that ran out of gas just as it was accelerating.

This was a spell-casting failure due to too many redundant conditions in the construction of the spell formula—a mistake that Old Yao had covered in class. Zheng Qing immediately identified why the ’flameout’ occurred across from him.

The Northern District Wizard, seemingly unprepared for such an occurrence, stared blankly at the book in his hand, appearing somewhat at a loss.

The witch beside Zheng Qing couldn’t hold back and chuckled.

Zheng Qing also couldn’t help but curl the corners of his mouth.

”If this is all you’ve got, you can’t hold us here,” he kindly advised, ”You might want to pick a later time... or bring more people.”

While his words were true, they sounded insulting.

Albani raised his head, his face deathly pale.

He was already hearing the jeering and hissing from the shadows along the street.

He wouldn’t allow such a failure to happen.

Then, he abruptly grabbed Oleg by the arm, as if his legs had gone weak.
