High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1260: Chapter 7 Nicholas’s Future

The irritation had all turned into awkwardness after entering Nicholas’s ward.

In the ward, Zheng Qing and the others saw the gifts Jiang Yu had brought—including a well-made frog skin drum, several frog bone talismans, and a bracelet strung with dried frog eyeballs, adorned with beautiful runes.

One for eating, one for using.

The other young wizards in the room eyed these two gifts, full of contemplation and doubt.

Unlike the somewhat awkward young scholarship students, Jiang Yu behaved quite naturally. She stood unabashedly with Zheng Qing in the corner of the ward and even found the mood to chat with the boys.

”How is it?” The witch glanced at the boy sideways and asked softly, ”Are you adjusting well?”

She was asking if Zheng Qing, after switching to a new body, felt particularly disheartened or lost. Even in the Wizard World, changing bodies was a rare occurrence. The side effects of related magic rituals or magic potions were frequently reported in the ”Beta Town Post.”

”Um... It’s alright,” Zheng Qing, staring at the friends comforting Nicholas at his bedside, answered vaguely.

He was actually very curious about the witch’s question.

Theoretically, the series of events that had happened yesterday, both physically and psychologically, should have had a massive impact on a person. Zheng Qing had originally thought that he would need a long time to recuperate.

At the very least, in the coming days, he should seem a bit more depressed or, due to the mental stress of knowing the truth about the Forbidden Curse, develop a few mouth ulcers.

However, in reality, from the moment he woke up this morning until now, he felt very well—his breathing felt incredibly light.

He didn’t feel the slightest bit of depression from inside out. His mindset was also remarkably grounded—what’s the big deal about having a Forbidden Curse? Others might even wish they had one. If the Moon Council knew he was under a forbidden spell, they would probably beg on their knees to enshrine him at the altar.

And Elena wasn’t really dead, she was just seriously ill. With the doctor’s special attention and regular visits from him, why should he worry?

These thoughts were very abnormal.

Quite abnormal.

So, upon hearing the witch’s question, after a brief contemplation, he responded in an equally soft tone, ”I’m adjusted, but it doesn’t feel like a normal adjustment... I don’t know if it’s because it feels ’like a new beginning.’”

He was referring to his near ’rebirth.’

”I also find it a bit confusing,” Jiang Yu said, pulling two packets of potions from her handbag and stuffing them into the boy’s hands, her tone casual, ”Earlier this morning, I thought you might be feeling down these few days, so I stopped by Doctor Ma to get two doses of calming vitality potion... though it seems you won’t be needing them now.”

Zheng Qing awkwardly accepted the witch’s potions, quickly stuffing them into his grey cloth bag, his gaze scanning the surroundings warily, as if he had just done something he felt guilty about.

”Perhaps the doctor already fed me a similar magic potion yesterday,” he answered uneasily.

”Sigh...”

Along with a gust of wind, the ward door was pushed open again. A haggard-looking witch walked in and, seeing Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu in the corner of the room, nodded slightly toward them.

It was Liu Fei Fei.

She wore a pale yellow long dress today, her hair fluffy and her face fatigued as if she had not washed up early in the morning.

”Anyway, just be careful yourself,” Jiang Yu finally glanced at the boy before turning to the witch who had just entered, ”I’m going to help Fifi... she had a really tough day.”

Jiang Yu had left for less than five seconds when Xin Fat Man and Li Meng quietly slipped over to Zheng Qing. They were very interested in the conversation between Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu.

”I should have carried those extendable ears with me,” Xin’s chubby face filled with regret as he murmured, ”Sister Cody told me many times that extendable ears are a journalist’s second life after the feather pen. Why do I always forget it?”

Unlike Fat Man’s cautious probing, Li Meng was very straightforward, ”What were you guys just talking about?”

”Ask your sister,” Zheng Qing twitched the corner of his mouth and replied irritably, ”Just some simple pleasantries... You guys were all crowding around Nicholas, was I supposed to come up and smell the sweat on you?”

His last sentence was directed at Xin Fat Man and his eyes were filled with warning when he spoke.

Fat Man shrugged with effort and winked at the young cost student, ”I’m doing this for your own good... If Elena had also come just now... you know.”

Hearing that familiar name, Zheng Qing’s eyes dimmed.

Apart from Jiang Yu and Korma, there should be no one else in the school who knew of Elena’s current situation. With so many things happening yesterday, he had forgotten to ask the teacher and didn’t know how the school would handle Elena’s case.

Xin Fat Man misinterpreted Zheng Qing’s downturned eyelids as guilt and was quite satisfied. He patted his shoulder and continued to threaten, ”Just a reminder, Jones is an excellent Diviner.”

Zheng Qing shuddered his shoulders and shook off Fat Man’s paws.

”Diviners can only sneak peeks at behavioral changes, they hardly understand the unfathomable human heart,” Xiao Xiao holding his notebook joined the conversation in the small corner. It wasn’t suitable to crowd too many spectators by the sickbed.

”Who is unfathomable now?” Zheng Qing, sensing something was off in their conversation, deliberately changed the subject, ”How is Nicholas doing? Will there be any sequela?”

On this topic, Xin Fat Man, well-versed in both rumors and potion making, seemed to have more authority than a doctor.

”It’s bad,” Xin whispered, cautiously glancing at the nearby sickbed, slightly turning his body and lowering his voice to repeat his assessment, ”very bad... The magic used by Green was extremely fierce, completely extracting the werewolf bloodline from his body. In other words, he is no longer a half-blood werewolf but a pure-blood wizard now.”

Green was Nicholas’s maternal surname, and everyone had originally used his paternal surname ’Oswald,’ which represented his werewolf bloodline. But given the current situation, a cautious man like Xin Fat Man had already started to switch.

”I remember, his family was originally from the North District?” Zheng Qing asked with some concern and a hint of subtlety.

Xin and Xiao Xiao both nodded.

The North District is the living area for Tricksters, and the wizards residing there tend to have poorer talents. Nicholas managed to enter First University because, as per rumors, his mother Mrs. Green had paid a tremendous price at an Oswald family gathering. She had requested blessings from the Wolf King of the Oswald family, through which he acquired his talent.

This had also been one of the most common excuses used by many young wizards at Alpha Academy to attack Nicholas. People always tend to infer the worst malice and dirtiest thoughts about others.

And now, under everyone’s watchful eyes, Nicholas had extricated the werewolf bloodline within his body.

He had extracted a large part of his life.

And most of his magical talent.
