High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1265: Chapter 12 Great Trickster

”One day, when people talk about tricksters, the image of a dirty, incompetent, or overly ridiculous clown won’t pop into their minds.”

”They will have a bit more respect for the word because of some ’great trickster’ staying in the North District.”

”The tricksters of the North District no longer find this title distressing... perhaps their casting abilities are still not outstanding, but it’s enough to give them the courage to say ’no’ and to straighten their backs with full strength.”

”That’s enough.”

Korma squinted her eyes, looking out at the silent, gray-robed tricksters through the window, murmuring her deepest desires. Her voice was soft, but her words carried an exceptional weight.

This heaviness, entwined with Korma’s snow-like silver hair, created an suffocating pressure—Zheng Qing urgently needed a new topic to break free from this suffocation.

Evidently, Jiang Yu felt the same need.

”Before coming here, I thought I would see a spectacle of dragons and phoenixes dance above the mansion,” the witch said, holding a warm cup of orange juice, trying to lighten the mood with a more relaxed tone, ”Not yet graduated from university and achieving the rank of Big Wizard at not even twenty-four... Your accomplishment even surpasses Su Shijun’s record by quite a bit.”

Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly, but gradually furrowed his brows.

Indeed, Korma becoming a Big Wizard was not only a significant event for the North District but for the entire Wizard World. The school should have ample reason to celebrate such an achievement.

But if he hadn’t followed Jiang Yu to the North District, to Gu Diao Street, he wouldn’t even have known about it!

The newspapers from yesterday and today mostly discussed Lei Zhe and Augustus’s destruction of half a street, some ethical discussions about Nicholas drawing blood, and scattered suspicions about explosions in the depths of the Silent Forest—yet this truly noteworthy news deserved bold headlines and wide coverage, and not a single journalist reported it.

This didn’t align with Zheng Qing’s understanding of the media. Honestly, a day’s time was enough for those feather pen-wielding journalists to run around the Earth, so it made no sense to ignore this huge news just around the corner in North Beta Town.

Jiang Yu seemed to realize that the new topic she brought up was not quite appropriate.

So, she picked up her cup and honestly drank a few sips of the juice.

Korma smiled and raised her cup of Green Bee toward Jiang Yu, ”Thank you for your praise. But this is not something worth celebrating.”

Worried that the two young guests didn’t understand, she briefly explained the stance of the school and the Mage Alliance, ”You two know, I advanced this time by using quite a cunning method... others may not be as lucky as I was to pluck wool from an Outer God.”

”But most people won’t see the shadows behind the glamour. Knowing there is a shortcut to success, it’s inevitable to try it. It’s human nature, unable to withstand the test... If someone really tries my path, it will undoubtedly be a huge tragedy. Undoubtedly.”

”So, to prevent more young wizards from going astray, both the Alliance and the school chose to downplay this issue... I personally very much agree with this decision.”

”However, this isn’t fair to you.” Even though he understood the school’s approach, Zheng Qing felt the need to express his solidarity with the owner of Jini Cottage.

”There’s no fairness in this world. Having lived in the North District for so long, I’ve long forgotten how to write those two words.” The newly promoted Big Wizard said with a faint smile,

”Fame or glory isn’t what North District people pursue... Having a chair at the Big Wizard meeting and my share of sacrifices at the Mage Alliance, and seeing the Tricksters in North Beta Town find a new ’path,’ ’way,’ I’m already very satisfied.”

”Moreover, because this advancement was ’overspeed,’ my future direction is completely overshadowed by the vast shadow of Satoguya. If I don’t want to slowly turn into His incarnation, then giving up on advancing further on the path of wizards is my only choice.”

”My existence is also considered a risk factor for the Mage Alliance. Staying low-key is beneficial for everyone.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the tavern fell into an unusual silence.

Indeed, there were ethical reasons behind Korma’s choice, but Zheng Qing felt that her decision was more about becoming the spiritual mentor for the thousands of new wizards in the North District—a power too dangerous for both the school and the Mage Alliance.

Perhaps the old heads of the school and the Mage Alliance were discussing in the dark room how to deal with this newly emerged power and how to squeeze a bit more cream from the already divided benefits to satiate the new wizards’ hunger.

Zheng Qing sipped a little of the Green Bee from his cup.

The green liquor became unusually cold due to the ice, causing a slight biting sensation when drunk, which sharpened his focus and made him a bit clearer.

”How did you enable them to cast spells?” When the Green Bee was almost finished, Zheng Qing could no longer contain his curiosity and asked, ”...I mean, Professor Montreya is also experimenting with bloodline magic; perhaps there is room for collaboration.”

This suggestion was a spontaneous idea. Although the possibility was low, if he could find one or two allies with common interests for Korma in the school, it would surely be much better than her struggling alone in the North District.

The owner of Jini Cottage gave a wry smile.

”It’s unrelated to bloodline magic.” She said as she lifted her hand and pointed to the tadpole-like imprint on her forehead, ”Rather than saying I gave them the ability to cast spells, it’s more like a gift from the Outer God.”

”This imprint allowed me to receive the feedback of Satoguya’s residual power when the magic circle collapsed, ultimately breaking free from the Registered Wizard’s shackles and becoming a Big Wizard. So, I imitated this mark and combined the principles of sacrifice and feedback in the magic circle, bestowing a curse mark on the Trickster with the authority of a Big Wizard.”

”A curse mark that can absorb life force and convert it into Magic Power.”

”Did you see the frogs those wizards were holding? That’s their source of power when casting magic. As an abnormal creature, frogs can most easily convert their life force into Magic Power... Of course, if there are no frogs at hand, using one’s own life can also cast magic.”

As she spoke, Korma touched her cascading silver hair and suddenly laughed, ”If you had come earlier, you could have met the investigators from the Mage Alliance. Because of the large increase in frog deaths in a short period, the Trident Sword’s investigators are alarmed. They thought some terrible Black Wizard was conducting some ritual.”
