High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1283: Chapter 30 The Future of North District

”Trickster? What trouble could they possibly cause?”

”They don’t call them tricksters anymore; they’re now known as ’Northern District Wizards.’”

”Northern District Wizards?”

”Yes, that’s the biggest problem.”

Professor Yao smiled wryly, briefly describing to Professor Emma the events that had occurred in North Beta Town over the past two days, ultimately concluding with, ”The Alliance has made its decision regarding Korma’s advancement to Big Wizard, recognizing her status but will not promote it widely... However, the Sacrificial Magic she invented, which gives Northern District Wizards the casting abilities of Ordinary Wizards, cannot be ignored by the schools. You need to be mentally prepared.”

”Wow,” the dean of Alpha Academy took a deep breath, tilted his head back, and squinted as he calculated before confirming, ”She is only twenty-one years old this year, right... still an undergraduate student. That’s much younger than when Su Shijun became a Big Wizard. Your academy really does have more and more outstanding young people.”

”Just a fluke, just a fluke,” Old Yao’s eyes narrowed into slits as he smiled, repeatedly expressing humility at his mouth, ”... Korma can’t compare to Su Shijun; her method of advancement was purely opportunistic... This is also why the Alliance didn’t publicize her advancement.”

”What do you think I should prepare for?” Professor Emma glanced at Old Yao.

”That’s over ten thousand wizards... Even if their casting abilities are weak, they are still ten thousand wizards capable of casting Binding Spells and Soft Leg Curses. Other than integration, what other method is there?”

”How to integrate?” Professor Emma’s face revealed a mocking smile, ”Lock them up in a laboratory? Or force them to venture into the depths of Silent Forest to collect precious magical resources for you?”

These were things that wizards had previously forced the North District mages to do.

Old Yao pretended not to notice the sarcastic tone in Professor Emma’s voice.

”Do you believe in God?” Old Yao suddenly asked.

Professor Emma looked at him as if he were insane.

”God? Oh, the heavens.” She exclaimed, ”I am the dean of Alpha Academy, not of Atlas Academy! Besides, we are wizards! We only believe in the truth!”

”No, no, you misunderstood me,” Professor Yao quickly raised his pipe, shaking it, ”What I mean is... do you believe there is something beyond our existence?”

Professor Emma crossed her arms, watching the dean of Jiuyou Academy warily, remaining silent.

”The Tricksters believe,” Professor Yao spoke softly, ”they have always believed... believed in an Angel, or a God, or a great person, a Sage, etc... they believe there is such an existence... believing there is someone who will lead them out of the darkness.”

”And now, Korma has become that person.”

”We can’t stop those in the Abyss from lifting their heads to see that glint of light above,” Professor Emma sighed helplessly. North Beta Town was more prone to various secret societies and strange beliefs than other regions in the Wizard World, which the Alliance had always known, but for the sake of compromise, no one had completely put an end to this.

Differentiation and organization can turn a group of people in the same situation into a disorganized mob, greatly reducing the difficulty of governance.

Provided they don’t have the same idol.

”Our faith will not make us better, but theirs can,” Professor Yao made his point, ”Their actions won’t improve their situation, but our actions can.”

This statement was contradictory yet unified, much like the Yin Yang Fish.

Professor Emma raised her eyebrows.

”Your meaning is...” She still seemed somewhat uncertain.

”Education.” He pinched his pipe, looked up at the ceiling as if gazing at a brilliant starry sky, ”We can provide general education to those newly born wizards in the North District, so they can integrate into this unfamiliar yet familiar world in the fastest, most reliable way.... Only education can erase old pains, prevent the continuation of hatred, and allow the wizards of the North District to obtain a better living environment...”

Professor Emma stared at Old Yao in shock, her mouth hanging open for a long while, unable to think of closing it.

”I’ve never heard that First University had plans to expand its enrollment,” she finally shut her mouth and thought she should say something, ”And all those ’Secondary Wizards,’ does First University plan to admit them all?”

Secondary Wizard was a term filled with discriminatory connotations, but the two big wizards in the office right now seemed not to notice this. Or rather, they noticed but didn’t care because there were more important matters to worry about.

”With their talent, it’s natural that they cannot get into First University.” Old Yao nodded,

”Even Starry Sky, which values combat ability, or Atlas, which values faith, have high demands for wizards...but they can enter their own academy.”

”Their own academy?”

”A long time ago, First University planned to add a new academy. But this idea has always been in the planning phase, and every time it was brought up there were various voices of protest—Moon Council, New World, all wanting to expand their influence in First University—now, it’s a new opportunity.”

The Moon Council wanted to establish an Under the Moon Academy, and the hunting teams of the New World wanted to establish a Hunter Academy.

Professor Emma was aware of these demands.

However, because the enrollment qualifications of the Alpha Academy overlapped with those of the Under the Moon Academy, and the student traits needed by the Hunter Academy were essentially the same as those required by the Starry Sky Academy, to prevent the loss of excellent prospective students, First University had always suppressed these voices.

Until now.

The emergence of North District wizards seemed to bring hope for the establishment of the new academy.

”First University North District Academy, how does that name sound? With the mission of ’Pioneering, Sacrifice,’ to establish an academy that is independent from but still a part of First University.”

It seemed that Professor Yao had thought about this idea for a long time, taking into account various needs:

”The birth of North District wizards is pioneering, the hunting teams of the New World are about pioneering, and the Moon Council also needs pioneering; the magic possessed by North District wizards is sacrifice, the hunting teams of the New World appreciate sacrifice...and those old folks at the Moon, fear sacrifice, yet like others to sacrifice. It’s a proposal with multiple wins.”

”Korma can be the dean of this new academy. A big wizard, born from a distinguished lineage. The school, Moon Council, hunting teams of the New World should all be able to accept this conclusion.”

”That sounds good...” Professor Emma pulled at the corner of her mouth—Korma was a student at Jiuyou Academy, and it was clear who would benefit most from selecting her as the dean of the new academy.

”She did well in the student union before.” Old Yao nodded in agreement, pretending not to see the mocking expression on the face of the Alpha Dean.

”This is a very significant topic, perhaps the two vice-chancellors aren’t qualified to decide.” Professor Emma voiced her opinion.

”But there has to be a start, right?” Old Yao bit his pipe, looked out the window, murmuring, ”...there has to be a start.”

”Oh, right, there’s one more thing.” Professor Yao put down his pipe, as if he recalled something, just about to speak, but then stopped, seeming hesitant, and looked up at the ceiling.

”Be straightforward about it!” Professor Emma tapped on the coffee table in front of her.

”Um, I’m not entirely sure either.” Old Yao spread his hands very honestly, ”Last night, there seemed to be some activity in the North Beita Town, but when I paid attention, it was quiet again... The area might be a bit sensitive these days, so...”

”Got it!” Professor Emma looked annoyed, ”I thought I could relax for a while after returning to school...I would have let others come back if I’d known!”
