The Beautiful CEO's Personal Mad Doctor

Niu Jishui had a good eye and could tell how precious the pair of walnuts was at a glance. He quickly pushed them back.

”Old Wu, are you trying to make me commit a political misstep! This pair of walnuts is too valuable. I can’t accept them!”

Wu Renqing insisted, pushing the walnuts back again. ”Director, I bought this pair of walnuts years ago for twenty yuan. I still have the purchase invoice and receipt! How could an exchange of favors worth a mere twenty yuan be a misstep?”

As he spoke, Wu Renqing showed Niu Jishui the receipt on his phone.

Niu Jishui wavered. Since it didn’t violate any principles, he could accept the walnuts.

”Old Wu, since you say it’s just a friendly exchange, I’m giving you this ashtray! Don’t you dare refuse!”

Niu Jishui pushed the Purple Sandalwood ashtray in front of Wu Renqing, his heart aching a little at the loss.

Wu Renqing knew the ashtray was Niu Jishui’s prized possession and waved his hands in refusal without hesitation.

”Director, you know I don’t smoke, so an ashtray is useless to me. I do enjoy a good drink, though. You must have some fine liquor here, right? Could I perhaps trouble you for a couple of bottles?”

Niu Jishui laughed. ”You old fox, Old Wu! Fine. I have two bottles of twenty-year-old Maotai. It’s your lucky day! So, what’s on your mind? What did you come to see me about?”

Wu Renqing rubbed his hands together, looking slightly embarrassed. ”Director, I’m holding a celebration banquet tonight. I was hoping you could do me a favor and help me invite the City Lord.”

Niu Jishui rolled his eyes in exasperation. ’What is this Old Wu thinking?’

’Why come to me to invite the City Lord?’

’If Cheng Yuan just says the word, the City Lord would definitely give him face. Why take the long way around?’

’Besides, I’m also hosting a celebration banquet tonight. I already invited the City Lord, and he politely declined.’

Niu Jishui gave a bitter smile. ”Old Wu, I’m afraid I can’t help you with this. I’m also hosting a celebration banquet tonight. I invited the City Lord, but he turned me down. He has to entertain an important guest from the Provincial City.”

Wu Renqing had been mentally prepared for the possibility of not being able to invite the City Lord, so he wasn’t surprised. However, hearing that Niu Jishui was also hosting a celebration banquet made his heart tighten.

”Director, that was thoughtless of me. How could I possibly hold a banquet on the same night as you? I’ll tell my family right now that my party is postponed until tomorrow. Tonight, I’ll attend yours!”

Normally, this would have been the most appropriate course of action for Wu Renqing. But Niu Jishui didn’t dare allow it.

’What if Cheng Yuan gets upset?’

Niu Jishui quickly shook his head. ”No need for that. Holding them at the same time is more efficient. We can just drop by each other’s parties.”

Wu Renqing nodded. ”Alright then. Director, I’m in the Qingyun Ascending Hall at the Qingyuan Hotel. Where are you?”

Niu Jishui forced another smile. ”I was wondering who was so quick on the draw to book the Qingyun Ascending Hall. So it was you, huh? I’m in the Shangshanruoshui Hall next door.”

Wu Renqing’s expression changed. He quickly squeezed out an ingratiating smile. ”Director, you’re mistaken! I booked the Qingyun Ascending Hall for you! I’ll take the Shangshanruoshui Hall!”

Niu Jishui started to panic. ’Is this Wu Renqing trying to get me killed?’

’If Young Master Cheng finds out I took his uncle’s private room, he’ll make my life a living hell in a heartbeat!’

”Old Wu, I appreciate the thought, but I’ve already sent out the invitations. It wouldn’t be good to change it now. Let’s just leave it as it is!”

”Alright then...”

By the time Cheng Yuan arrived in Luocheng, the sky was already growing dark.

Cheng Yuan turned on his phone, and a flood of chat messages popped up.

Wu Xiuli: ”Xiaoyuan, you little rascal, why aren’t you here yet? Everyone’s arrived, we’re just waiting for you!!”

Cheng Hongbing: ”Xiaoyuan, your uncle has really hit the big time! He’s been made Deputy Director of the Construction Bureau! When you see him later, be respectful. Don’t be impertinent!”

Lian Shiqiang: ”Xiaoyuan, where are you?”

...

Cheng Yuan scrolled through the chat history, his brows furrowing deeply.

’My uncle was promoted to Deputy Director, skipping several ranks?’

’That’s a bit unreasonable!’

’No matter how competent my uncle is, he should have at least served as a section head first!’

’To get it all in one go means one thing: Ni Zhenjiang is trying to curry favor with me!’

’Ni Zhenjiang really went all out for my uncle’s sake!’

Cheng Yuan hailed a Didi and smoothly got into the car at the domestic arrivals exit of Terminal 2.

The driver, a man named Shi Jisong, was very talkative. He asked with a broad smile, ”Young man, where are you coming back from? A trip?”

Cheng Yuan asked with interest, ”How did you know I was on a trip, sir?”

”Hahaha, you’re dressed so casually, and you have a strong earthy smell on you. You must have visited some underground tomb! Am I right? Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum?”

Cheng Yuan shrugged. ”You have a keen eye, sir.”

”Young man, are you going straight to the Qingyuan Hotel like that? You’re not going to change your clothes?”

Cheng Yuan was taken aback. ”Why would I need to change?”

Shi Jisong adopted the air of an expert. ”Usually, only people in the system dine at the Qingyuan Hotel. It’s not really appropriate to dress so casually, and with that earthy smell, in front of your superiors, is it?”

Cheng Yuan shook his head lightly. ”It’s fine.”

Shi Jisong shook his head slowly. ”When I was young, I worked at a state-owned enterprise. I didn’t pay much attention to these details, which is why I got laid off and can only drive a Didi now. Young man, learn from my harsh lesson!”

Cheng Yuan grinned. ”Thank you for the advice, sir, but it’s really not necessary.”

After speaking, Cheng Yuan dialed Ni Zhenjiang’s number. The call connected quickly, and Ni Zhenjiang’s hearty voice came through. ”Xiaoyuan, what can I do for you?”

”Uncle Ni, thank you for my uncle’s matter!”

”Hahaha, there’s no need to be so formal between us! I’m at the Qingyuan Hotel in the ’Prince’s Mansion’ suite, entertaining Director Zhu from the Provincial City Patrol Headquarters. Do you have time to come and join us?”

’Uncle Zhu is here too?’

’What a coincidence!’

”Uncle Ni, what a coincidence. My uncle has a table in the Qingyun Ascending Hall. How about we drop in on each other’s parties?”

”It’s your uncle’s celebration banquet, of course I have to go join in the fun. I have to go, I’ve just met up with Director Zhu. See you at the Qingyuan Hotel.”

”Okay, Uncle Ni.”

Cheng Yuan’s phone volume was loud, and Shi Jisong vaguely overheard a little. He glanced at Cheng Yuan with some surprise.

”Young man, you’ve got some good connections! Your uncle is responsible for receiving a leader from the Provincial City? He must work in the Municipal Government Office, right?”

Cheng Yuan shook his head lightly and answered truthfully, ”My uncle is the City Lord. The staff of the Municipal Government Office work for him.”

Shi Jisong rolled his eyes, speechless.

’Kids these days really know how to spin a yarn!’

’Your uncle is the City Lord?’

’Yeah, and my uncle is the Governor!’

’How could the City Lord possibly go and personally receive a guest?’

’Just how important would that leader have to be?’

Shi Jisong couldn’t be bothered to talk to Cheng Yuan anymore. He didn’t want his ears to be tortured by any more of Cheng Yuan’s bragging.

Half an hour later, the car arrived at the Qingyuan Hotel. Shi Jisong stopped the car and said irritably, ”Kid, Qingyuan Hotel...”

He trailed off mid-sentence, suddenly becoming agitated, because he saw an Audi with the license plate Luo A0001 parked not far away!

Shi Jisong pointed at the Audi, his face alight with excitement. ”Kid, that’s the City Lord’s car! Isn’t your uncle the City Lord? Why don’t you hurry over and say hi to your uncle?”
