The Beautiful CEO's Personal Mad Doctor

A slight smile played on Cheng Yuan’s lips. ’Mom’s timing is perfect.’ He had just cleaned out the Treasury and was having trouble finding an excuse to leave.

”Alright, I’ll head back now.”

After hanging up, Cheng Yuan turned to Wutubo with an apologetic look. ”High Priest, something important has come up at home. I must take my leave.”

”This old servant respectfully sees the Young Master off.”

Wutubo arranged for a helicopter to take Cheng Yuan to Nanjiang International Airport.

Cheng Yuan boarded the plane and headed straight for Luocheng.

「Rewind to 10 AM this morning.」

Luocheng’s new City Lord, Ni Zhenjiang, convened an inner-circle meeting to discuss personnel adjustments for the city.

There were only three people at this meeting.

Leading the meeting was Ni Zhenjiang, followed by the newly confirmed director, Sui Siwen, and finally, Executive Deputy City Lord Zhang Deli.

Ni Zhenjiang didn’t run it as a one-man show, instead giving his two colleagues plenty of opportunity to speak.

He offered up forty percent of the available positions.

The reason Ni Zhenjiang was being so accommodating was, of course, for the sake of a trade-off.

He wanted to install Wu Renqing as the Deputy Director of the Construction Bureau, so he had to offer the other two something in return.

Zhang Deli knew a little of the inside story, so he wasn’t surprised by this.

However, Sui Siwen had left Ni Zhenjiang’s welcome banquet early and didn’t know Wu Renqing’s background. Furthermore, he had always been his old boss’s man and had no idea about the power behind Cheng Yuan.

Sui Siwen misunderstood. He mistakenly thought Ni Zhenjiang was deliberately offering up so many positions as a gesture of goodwill toward him—or rather, mainly toward the old boss backing him.

Sui Siwen’s ego swelled a bit. He wanted to regain the face he lost at the City Lord’s welcome banquet!

”Lord Ni, for the Construction Bureau, I suggest letting my secretary, Meng Chengjun, step up.”

What Sui Siwen didn’t expect was that Ni Zhenjiang, who had been so agreeable just moments ago, flatly rejected his proposal.

”The Construction Bureau requires a high level of professional expertise. Xiaomeng’s major wasn’t in architecture. I think Niu Jishui is a fine choice. In his time as Deputy Director, he has produced many impressive results.”

Zhang Deli quickly chimed in, ”I also think Niu Jishui is a good choice.”

Sui Siwen’s expression turned grim. ”City Lord, Old Zhang, Niu Jishui is indeed a veteran official with solid capabilities. However, he’s nearly sixty and on the verge of retirement. We should give the younger generation a chance!”

Ni Zhenjiang’s expression darkened. ”Director Sui, watch your words. If your old boss were to hear what you just said, I wonder what he would think? Are you suggesting that he should step aside for you?”

Sui Siwen’s expression changed instantly. ”That’s not what I meant! Niu Jishui is an excellent official! I’m confident he will do a fantastic job leading the Construction Bureau! In that case, let’s have Xiaomeng start as a deputy director. He can learn from Niu Jishui and eventually take over his position.”

Ni Zhenjiang curled his lip in disdain. ’What a beautiful little fantasy Sui Siwen has.’

He had chosen Niu Jishui precisely because he would be retiring soon, which was why he had pushed for his confirmation. It was all to pave the way for Wu Renqing to succeed him.

After all his careful planning, why would he let someone else reap the rewards?

”I recall Xiaomeng majored in education, so he shouldn’t go to the Construction Bureau. Let’s send him to the Education Bureau instead! As for the Construction Bureau, I think Wu Renqing is an excellent choice.”

Wu Renqing??

Sui Siwen’s face was a mask of fury!

He had been utterly humiliated because of that Wu Renqing at the City Lord’s welcome banquet!

If Wu Renqing became the Deputy Director of the Construction Bureau now, what little face would he have left?

”Lord Ni, Wu Renqing is just a minor clerk. If you want to promote him, I have no objection to him becoming a section head! But Deputy Director? Isn’t that leap a little too big?”

Ni Zhenjiang didn’t get angry in the slightest. He simply smiled and said, ”Since we can’t reach a consensus, let’s act as if this meeting never took place. We’ll put all the personnel adjustments to a vote at the 11-member committee meeting.”

Sui Siwen’s face fell!

If it went to the 11-member committee, he definitely wouldn’t get so many positions! He might even end up with nothing!

This was absolutely unacceptable!

Sui Siwen knew this was one of Ni Zhenjiang’s overt schemes.

But there was nothing he could do!

Sui Siwen forced a smile that looked more painful than tears. ”I think Lord Ni has a point! We shouldn’t be constrained by convention when it comes to promoting talent! I’ve heard for a long time that Wu Renqing is a very capable man!”

Ni Zhenjiang nodded in satisfaction. ”Then it’s settled. Have Han Kaiyuan go and speak with them.”

「The Construction Bureau.」

Wu Renqing couldn’t focus on work at all today. Rumors were flying that the personnel adjustments for the Construction Bureau would be announced, and he was wondering, ’Will I be able to secure that section head position?’

Wu Renqing had been to Niu Jishui’s office several times, but Niu Jishui didn’t have any news either.

Niu Jishui was even getting a little exasperated. ’Wu Renqing, you have such a badass nephew, what are you so nervous about?’

’If anyone should be nervous, it’s me, Old Niu, all right?’

’I’m about to retire. If I can get one last promotion now, it’ll make a huge difference when I step down!’

BEEP BEEP...

Niu Jishui’s desk phone started ringing.

Niu Jishui and Wu Renqing both held their breath, staring intently at the phone.

Niu Jishui straightened his collar, sat up straight, and made sure his posture was impeccable before answering the phone.

”Hello, this is Niu Jishui.”

”Hello, Niu Jishui. This is Han Kaiyuan. I will be at the Construction Bureau in one hour to speak with you. Please be prepared.”

Niu Jishui trembled with excitement!

Director Han was the head of Luocheng’s Organization Department! ’For him to come talk to me personally, this has to mean a promotion!’

Wu Renqing, who was standing nearby, kept clearing his throat, signaling for Niu Jishui to ask about his situation.

Niu Jishui cleared his throat. ”Please rest assured, Director Han. We at the Construction Bureau will be ready to receive you. Our rank-and-file members are especially looking forward to the honor of a visit from the Organization Department’s leadership!”

Han Kaiyuan heard the hidden meaning in Niu Jishui’s words and chuckled. ”Old Niu, if you have something to say, just say it directly. We’ve known each other for years, haven’t we?”

Niu Jishui chuckled. ”Alright, I’ll be direct then. I’m recommending Wu Renqing for the position of our Construction Bureau’s office head! I hope Director Han will consider him for the role as well.”

Han Kaiyuan laughed. ’This Niu Jishui is a sharp one!’

’Too bad his perspective is still so limited!’

Han Kaiyuan adopted a serious tone and rejected Niu Jishui’s suggestion. ”Old Niu, we’re friends here, so I won’t mince words. Wu Renqing cannot become the head of the Construction Bureau’s office.”

Huh?

Niu Jishui was stunned!

’How could this be? Director Han obviously knows about the power backing Cheng Yuan!’

’Why won’t Director Han even approve him for a section head position?’

Niu Jishui’s voice grew heavy. ”Director Han, that’s not right! Even if you don’t care about my recommendation, surely you wouldn’t disregard...”

Niu Jishui didn’t finish, but Han Kaiyuan knew exactly what he meant. He laughed and said, ”Old Jin, don’t get so worked up. Deputy Director Wu is Young Master Cheng’s own uncle. How could we possibly let him be a mere section head?”
