The Beautiful CEO's Personal Mad Doctor

Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Young Master Wan Has a Point, I’ll Go Fetch Water

Though Wan Liang claimed not to look down on Cheng Yuan, his tone clearly conveyed the opposite.

The three women all turned to look at Cheng Yuan with odd expressions, wondering how he would react.

Before he went to prison, Cheng Yuan would have definitely gotten hot-headed, refused the task of fetching water, and insisted on joining the hunt.

But now, Cheng Yuan simply nodded calmly. ”Young Master Wan makes a good point. I’ll go get the water.”

Huh?

Wan Liang was once again left speechless.

’Shouldn’t he be trying to act all heroic in front of three beautiful women?’

’This Cheng guy doesn’t play by the book!’

’He had thought Cheng Yuan would volunteer for the hunt, make a complete fool of himself, and become a laughingstock. He never expected Cheng Yuan to have no sense of shame at all!’

Seeing Wan Liang looking so flustered, his lackey, Xiang Fei, said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, ”Mr. Cheng, you might not know the Hunting Team’s rules. The spoils are distributed based on contribution. If you don’t join the hunt, you only get the smallest share of food. If there isn’t enough to go around, you’ll be lucky to get a bit of broth.”

Cheng Yuan wasn’t the least bit angry. ”That’s how it should be. I support distributing based on contribution.”

Seeing that Cheng Yuan was impervious to both threats and persuasion, Wan Liang and the other three boys exchanged a look. They quickly settled on a strategy: they would limit the amount of game they caught, ensuring Cheng Yuan would be left with nothing but broth.

After the four boys left, Wang Yan shot Cheng Yuan a disdainful look. ’What a spineless loser,’ she thought. ’He doesn’t even know how to stand up for himself.’

Zhang Nana, who knew about Cheng Yuan’s wealth, said in a slightly fawning tone, ”Mr. Cheng, why didn’t you stand up for yourself? If I were you, I definitely wouldn’t be going to fetch water. I’d go hunting with the main group. Even if you just helped retrieve the game, it would count as a contribution. Do you really want to go hungry?”

He Jing didn’t understand why Cheng Yuan wasn’t going hunting either, but she certainly wasn’t going to let him go hungry.

He Jing said coolly, ”It’s Cheng Yuan’s choice whether he hunts or not. He won’t go hungry. I’m a small eater; I can share my portion with him.”

Zhang Nana was slightly taken aback. ’Isn’t He Jing being a little too forward?’

’Alright, since you’re not playing fair, He Jing, then don’t blame me for what I do next!’

Zhang Nana smiled. ”As it happens, I’m on a diet. I can give my entire portion to Mr. Cheng!”

Huh?

Wang Yan was dumbfounded.

’What’s going on?’

’Why are He Jing and Zhang Nana sucking up to Cheng Yuan like this?’

’Even with Young Master Wan, He Jing always gives him the cold shoulder!’

’Could this Cheng guy have some powerful background?’

Wang Yan’s expression changed in an instant. She forced a fawning smile and said, ”Mr. Cheng, I know where the water source is. Let me take you.”

Unfortunately, Cheng Yuan refused without the slightest hesitation.

”Miss Wang, the water source is the most dangerous area. Even though we’re only on the outskirts of the Hundred Thousand Mountains, the chance of encountering a dangerous beast is high. I advise you not to come with me.”

The moment she heard the words ”dangerous beast,” Wang Yan instantly chickened out. She stopped pestering Cheng Yuan and looked at him with great concern. ”Mr. Cheng, the water source is to the east. Please, be careful!”

Cheng Yuan grinned, picked up a small bucket from the camp, and sauntered toward the water source.

Of course, Cheng Yuan wouldn’t run into any danger while fetching water. The more powerful a beast was, the better it could sense how terrifying he was, and it would give him a wide berth.

When Cheng Yuan reached the water source, he only saw a few small animals.

Cheng Yuan easily filled the bucket but didn’t head back to camp. Instead, he activated his Double Pupil and looked in the direction Wan Liang’s group had gone.

Soon, he caught sight of the four of them.

Cheng Yuan quickly gave chase.

Of course, Cheng Yuan wasn’t going to help them. He was going to cause some trouble. ’Distribution based on contribution, isn’t it?’

’Let’s see you go back to camp and starve after you fail to catch a single thing!’

Cheng Yuan followed about five meters behind them, observing their every move.

It had to be said, Wan Liang really did have some hunting experience.

He quickly led the other three in setting up more than a dozen traps.

The traps were extremely well-hidden. If it weren’t for his Double Pupil, and if he hadn’t watched them being set up, Cheng Yuan himself might have fallen for one.

If Cheng Yuan hadn’t intervened, the traps would have surely yielded a great harvest.

But unfortunately for them, Cheng Yuan had left a trace of Evil Qi on each trap. Animals are highly sensitive to Evil Qi and would avoid them from a great distance.

After waiting for a full hour without a single animal getting snared, the four of them started to get anxious.

A boy named Luo Hou asked, ”Young Master Wan, this is weird. The animals today are way too crafty, don’t you think? One fawn got within three meters of a trap and then suddenly jumped away, spooked. Do you think it smelled the trap?”

Wan Liang frowned deeply. ”That shouldn’t be possible. None of us smoke or drink, and we didn’t use any cosmetics, so how could...”

A boy named Chen Ping asked guiltily, ”I put on a little sunscreen... Does that count as a cosmetic?”

Wan Liang irritably rapped Chen Ping on the head. ”Of course it counts! Why are you wearing sunscreen anyway? Acting like a girl! Ugh, these traps are a total waste now! Animals are extremely sensitive to the smell of cosmetics!”

Chen Ping lowered his head in frustration. ”Young Master Wan, I know I was wrong. I’ll never wear sunscreen again!”

”Then hurry up and wash your face! Or scrub it with some leaves to get that smell off! Otherwise, get lost and head back to camp!”

”I’m washing it, I’m washing it.”

Chen Ping opened a bottle of mineral water and quickly washed his face.

Hiding in the shadows, Cheng Yuan almost burst out laughing. ’Wan Liang is a real master at shifting blame,’ he thought. ’What does any of this have to do with sunscreen?’

’Does he really think every animal has the nose of a dog?’

’Besides, they’ve never smelled cosmetics before, so they wouldn’t even know what the scent means.’

Wan Liang checked the time. ”It’s only half an hour until dark. It’s too late to set new traps. Let’s go try our luck by the larger water source.”

The other three’s expressions grew solemn. The small water source near the camp was relatively safe and generally free of large, dangerous beasts.

This larger, more distant water source, however, was dangerous. Large beasts frequently came there to drink.

If they ran into a single large beast, it would be manageable; Young Master Wan was capable of handling one. But what if they ran into several?

Xiang Fei said in a cold voice, ”Chen Ping, you take point. It’s your fault we have to take this risk in the first place.”

Chen Ping’s expression changed, but he couldn’t refuse. After all, he had to admit it was his fault the traps had failed.

Chen Ping gritted his teeth. ”Fine. I’ll go first. You guys better stick close behind me! If there’s trouble, you have to back me up right away!”

The others nodded.

Soon, the group reached a thicket less than twenty meters from the large water source.

Chen Ping peeked his head out of the thicket, his face lighting up with ecstasy.

By the water’s edge, a herd of deer was drinking!

No large predators!

Suppressing his excitement, Chen Ping whispered, ”No predators, just deer!”

Everyone’s spirits lifted, and they all looked to Wan Liang.

”Young Master Wan, you take the main shot,” Xiang Fei directed. ”Chen Ping and Luo Hou, be ready to follow up. I’ll keep watch!”

Wan Liang gave a slight nod, decisively nocking an arrow and taking aim.

In an instant, Wan Liang had pulled the 70-kilogram compound recurve bow to a full draw.

The other three looked on with faces full of admiration. ’Young Master Wan is incredible!’

Even Cheng Yuan gave a mental thumbs-up. ’This Wan Liang really has some skill,’ he thought. ’His archery form is perfect, and he’s got more than enough strength!’

SWOOSH!

Wan Liang released the string. With a deep THWANG, the sharp arrow sliced through the air, heading straight for a fawn’s throat!
