Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 930: Chapter 931 Trapped

Chiang Xiao’s hand holding the microphone suddenly broke out in sweat.

She started to try hard to remember if she had heard anything about the flood situation in Guan Town at this time in her previous life.

But no matter how hard she tried to recall, all she could remember was that she had been immersed in her own sadness at that time, surrounded by a feeling of resentment towards the villagers.

The memories of that period were all grey.

Chiang Xiao was somewhat annoyed with herself.

”He didn’t say when he would be back. He said they couldn’t be sure either, only after they finish their task. Little, you’re going back home, everything’s alright?”

”It’s fine.” Chiang Xiao didn’t mention the matter of Chiang Baoguo looking for her; as long as she had sorted it out, it was okay.

”Has our old home had any water seepage? The rain has been pretty heavy today, hasn’t it?”

”Yeah, the rain is quite heavy, but there’s no water seepage at home. After Uncle and I went back, we cleaned up again, everything is fine.”

Chiang Songhai felt relieved after hearing this.

Perhaps it’s just how the elderly are, although it’s very likely they won’t move back to the village, and the house they live in now is much better than the old one, they still care deeply about the not-so-good old house in the village.

”Little, when are you coming back?”

Chiang Xiao had originally planned to stay here for another two days to see what actions those people from out of town would take. It was better for her to keep an eye on them than to rely on others.

But now with the continuous rain, even if they had plans, they would have definitely been forced to delay them. Coupled with her concern about Meng Xinian going to Guan Town, she decided she might as well go back first.

Just as she was about to tell Chiang Songhai she would return that afternoon, Hu Xibing came out holding a radio.

The radio was just mentioning Jiguan Village.

”The road from Jiguan Village to the town has a severe landslide, and it has buried the road; the villagers are temporarily unable to evacuate...”

Chiang Xiao’s hand holding the phone stiffened. At this moment, she didn’t yet know that Meng Xinian was headed to Jiguan Village, but she had an instinctive reaction.

”Eh? Little, did I hear them mention Jiguan Village? Is that the sound of the radio?” Chiang Songhai’s voice pulled her back to reality, but hearing his words, Chiang Xiao had a bad premonition.

”Yes, Grandpa, do you know about Jiguan Village?”

”I had never heard of it before, but Xinian said that’s where he was going!”

Chiang Xiao’s heart thudded.

”Grandpa, I won’t be coming back first. You and Grandma be careful at home too.”

”Okay, with the rain so heavy, I was thinking driving wouldn’t be too safe, so wait for the rain to let up a bit before you come back.”

After hanging up the phone, Chiang Xiao approached Hu Xibing. Hu Xibing hadn’t greeted her just now as he saw she was on a call; now seeing her looking distressed, he couldn’t help but ask, ”What’s wrong?”

”Brother Hu, did you just hear any other news? About Jiguan Village?”

Hu Xibing shook his head, ”They didn’t say much, just mentioned a landslide blocking the road. Earlier they reported that the river next to the mountain village kept rising, and the water level was too high; many fields by the river had been flooded, so they were trying to evacuate the villagers from inside. But now that the road is blocked, they temporarily can’t be evacuated.”

So, was Meng Xinian and the others also trapped in Jiguan Village?

What if the river kept rising?

If the river kept rising and it wasn’t a problem, but what if the dam, under pressure, had no choice but to discharge floodwaters?

Once the dam released the floodwaters, with the already high water level from the heavy rain, the village would be submerged in minutes!
