Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 910: Chapter 911: The Reason for Severing Ties

Chiang Songhai nodded, ”I really can’t remember. I went there by chance and was utterly confused, so that time I led them wandering in the mountains for a long time.”

”Did you find it later?”

Chiang Songhai looked confused again. ”We did find it, but we also got lost. Now, if you asked me to find it again, I’m not sure I could. I might have to wander around the mountains for a couple of days and rely on luck. It’s possible that even after two days, I still might not be able to find it.”

After finding the place, he realized that those people were actually tomb raiders.

They wanted him to go down first, but he refused. Then, their demeanor changed and they threatened him, saying they knew he was from Siyang Village, and if he didn’t go down, they would go to his home.

Chiang Songhai wouldn’t let danger reach his family, so he reluctantly agreed.

But once they went down, they encountered danger.

As for what kind of danger, Chiang Songhai was unwilling to elaborate, and there were many things he simply couldn’t remember. It was pitch dark inside, and having no experience at all, he couldn’t see clearly. After two people died, he had to follow the man leading them and tried to run back, but later that man also died.

The box just happened to fall beside him, so he took the box, and the pen was also lying next to the box. He picked them both up.

His memories of that time were very chaotic; he only remembered running back continuously, not knowing if the path was right or not. Anyway, he eventually came out in a daze.

”After bringing the items back, I didn’t dare to use them for a long time and kept hiding them. Many years later, when I saw you looking at a sketchbook, I don’t know why, but I felt like giving that pen to you.”

This was also why they lived in poverty for so many years, sometimes nearly without rice to cook. Because during those years, Chiang Songhai dared not to use the box of jewelry.

”But how did Liu Caiyun know you had those things?” Chiang Xiao frowned.

Ge Liutao said, ”This is my fault.”

It turned out that when Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were just starting to date, Grandma Ge fell seriously ill. At that time, the Ge Family was also extremely poor. Ge Dejun was still young, and Ge Liutao was at her wits’ end. Chiang Songhai couldn’t bear it, so he took a piece of gold from the box to exchange for money.

Ge Liutao used the money to get a doctor for Grandma Ge, who also prescribed costly medicines. Grandma Ge repeatedly pressed her to know where the money came from.

As mother and daughter, how could Ge Liutao think too much at that time? Also, to make her mother appreciate Chiang Songhai, she told Grandma Ge about the sum of money he had.

Although she did not tell the whole story, Grandma Ge began to covet it and directly asked Chiang Songhai for an astronomical betrothal gift. Ge Liutao disagreed and argued with her, not expecting that Grandma Ge’s younger sister would hear about this matter and kept pleading with her elder sister, saying she had never had suitors call on her. Since her niece didn’t want to help the family by asking Chiang Songhai for a larger betrothal gift, it might as well be her marrying Chiang Songhai, and she would persuade him to give all the money to Grandma Ge.

So a drama ensued where an aunt and her niece fought over the same man.

Chiang Songhai might have been honest, but after an incident where Ge Liutao’s aunt sneakily climbed into his bed, he unexpectedly became angry and decided it was better to break up with Ge Liutao.

At that time, Ge Liutao felt as if the sky had fallen.

Her own mother completely betrayed her, treating her sister better than her daughter and not caring about her life at all.

And Chiang Songhai was also driven by them to the point of giving her up.

She couldn’t see a way out, so she prepared to see Chiang Songhai for the last time and then end her life.

Fortunately, Chiang Songhai noticed something was off with her emotions that day, and for once, he took a firm stand, pulling her directly back to the village and went through the wedding ceremony.
