Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 928: Chapter 929: Wishful Calculation

The next day, after hearing the neighbor lock the door and the footsteps fade away, Ho Laidi and Chiang Songtao left the yard one after another, looking at the door guarded by the Iron General with grim faces.

”Dad, don’t you think Chiang Xiao is just too bizarre? How did she become so bold now?” Ho Laidi’s cheeks had sunken in from thinness, and now she looked even more sharp-tongued and malicious.

Chiang Songtao’s back was slightly bent, as all the farming work of these days had fallen on him alone, nearly crushing him.

What they were most grateful for now was that their second daughter-in-law still had a salary, which Ho Laidi dug into deeply each month, barely sustaining them.

But even as they lived off Zou Xiaoling’s salary, not a single person remembered her kindness. That’s because Zou Xiaoling always had a somber expression, as if the Old Chiang family owed her something. And then there was the fact that they thought she would get pregnant quickly, but a year had passed, and there was still no news from her belly.

They wondered if they had brought back a hen that couldn’t lay eggs.

Ho Laidi even felt that Chiang Baohe had been shortchanged.

”Regardless of what she is like, just don’t go provoking her. That girl must have someone backing her now,” Chiang Songtao said with a sighed and a dark expression.

”Then what about Baoguo in the future? We can’t just have him lingering around the house like this, can we?”

”Let him go to the provincial city, to find Yuequn,” Chiang Songtao had been mulling over this idea for a while.

”Find Yuequn? Didn’t Yuequn say he wanted to retake the college entrance exams? He told us that his city girlfriend insists he gets into college before she’ll continue with him. If Baoguo goes to find him now, won’t it affect him?”

”What’s there to affect? We’ll give some money, let Baoguo rent a place nearby to live, the brothers can look after each other. Didn’t Yuequn also write saying their school was hiring a gatekeeper? I think working as a school gatekeeper is pretty good, the people coming and going are all educated, and later when people ask, we can say Baoguo works at a city school, doesn’t that sound good?”

Ho Laidi’s eyes lit up, ”Dad, you’re right! Didn’t Yuequn say he gets along quite well with the teachers at school? So arranging such a position for Baoguo should be no problem. But what about Baoguo’s wife? Won’t she cause a fuss wanting to follow him?”

There had been that one time, now with Chiang Baoguo leaving home to work in the city alone, Song Xiyun would definitely not agree.

Chiang Songtao furrowed his brow and said, ”Just let her go with Baoguo! Once Baoguo settles down in his job, they can come back and bring the child over!”

”Then why don’t you bring the two of us over too? I want to live in the city as well.”

”Alright, alright, once he really gets the job as a school gatekeeper, it shouldn’t be a problem to have us all move over there! Also, isn’t Yuequn’s girlfriend a city person? Maybe her family has spare rooms we could live in, and we could save on rent too.”

Chiang Songtao spoke as if he had everything figured out, and Ho Laidi nodded along excitedly, her face breaking into an enthusiastic smile, as though everything he said had already come to pass.

”Then I’ll hurry and have Baoguo write a letter to Yuequn!”

Chiang Xiao returned to the town, and just as she entered, Ge Xiaotong, holding Little Bean Bun, said to her, ”Little, my uncle called, he wants you to go to Brother Hu’s place and return the call after you get back.”

”Did he say what it’s about?”

”No, he said to wait until calling back to talk about it.”

Chiang Xiao didn’t even put down her umbrella and turned to leave the house again.
