Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 909: Chapter 910: The Origin of the Jewelry

Chiang Xiao sat up straight, always feeling that this was what her grandfather meant when he said he had something to tell her.

Sure enough, after Chiang Songhai sighed, he said to Chiang Xiao, ”I don’t even know how to tell you this, Little Little, I’m afraid you’ll worry about your grandfather.”

”Grandfather, what exactly is going on? Tell me.”

Chiang Songhai patted Ge Liutao’s hand and said, ”Now that you’ve grown up and are capable, I think there shouldn’t be a problem in telling you. Do you remember the box of jewelry I gave you before?”

Of course, she remembered.

She had even given a gemstone ring to Meng Xinian. The rest of the jewelry was still kept in her Space.

”Actually, those things were not originally mine.” Chiang Songhai’s words surprised Chiang Xiao.

”It was many years ago, I was young too, and I had visited Bai Gu Mountain. That time, I got caught in a torrential downpour and ended up running blindly and fell down a slope. Then, I accidentally discovered a cave that didn’t look natural, with stones that had been laid to form the entrance and carvings on the stones. But back then, I didn’t dare to go inside. It took me half a day to find a way down from Bai Gu Mountain.”

Chiang Songhai became lost in his memories, speaking slowly. Chiang Xiao did not interrupt him, and listened to his stories while sipping tea.

Later, he visited again, being young, he was much bolder and dared to venture deep into the mountains. But that time, he ran into some people from out of town in the mountains.

Those people seemed friendly enough. They knew he was a villager from Siyang Village and told him that they had a hobby of wandering through the mountains across the country whenever they had free time to see if there were any charming scenes or delicious wild fruits.

They had hunted in the mountains and were roasting meat, and they invited Chiang Songhai warmly to join them. Chiang Songhai never thought ill of others and so sat down to eat and chat with them.

Then, as they talked, they started discussing the ancient tombs they had encountered in various deep mountains and mentioned the structure of some tomb caves. Chiang Songhai, without any guard, told them about the cave hole he had found in Bai Gu Mountain.

Unexpectedly, they became quite curious and said they were willing to pay him handsomely to lead them to that cave.

Chiang Songhai kept declining, not knowing whether the place was really an ancient tomb, but if it was, he absolutely did not want to explore, as he had no interest in tomb raiding and was also a bit reverent and fearful.

But the leader of the group took out a box.

”At the time, he said to me that if we found an ancient tomb, all the jewelry in that box would be mine to keep.”

Hearing this, Chiang Xiao’s eyebrows raised, yet she felt a chill of fear inside her.

She knew the value of that box of jewelry, worth a fortune.

To offer such a high reward just for guiding them, it was obvious that they had ill intentions.

It was very possible that once Chiang Songhai led them there, those people would either go back on their word and give him nothing or they had planned to kill him once they achieved their goal.

Chiang Songhai also looked visibly frightened at this point.

”At the time... my mind was clouded by greed.”

Ge Liutao, hearing this, quickly defended him, ”No, your grandfather is not the type to be greedy for money. It’s mainly because life was too tough at the time, and your great-uncles were already thinking of splitting him off from the family. He was thinking of earning some money, so he wouldn’t have to worry when the time came to split.”

Chiang Xiao could understand Chiang Songhai’s dilemma at the time.

But in the end, he still led them there.

”But Grandfather, didn’t you also forget exactly where that place was?”
