Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 922: Chapter 923: Not Optimistic

”Xinian, you...”

Chiang Songhai heard the busy tone on the other end of the phone and couldn’t help but sigh.

Ge Liutao walked over, ”What’s the matter?”

”Xinian called, he’s going to Guan Town. There’s been heavy rain there for several days, and he said a place called Jiguan Village is in danger, all the villagers have to be relocated.”

”Will they be in danger if they go there?” Ge Liutao was also very worried.

Chiang Songhai said, ”Let’s hope not, but then again, Xinian is the king of the elite Supervisory Guards, very agile, so he should be fine.”

”Isn’t Little coming back today? She said she took two days off. Maybe we should give her a call to let her know.”

”You’re right, I should call her first and also check if it’s still raining back in our old home. We should have her check our west room, there was a corner wall there that was leaking before...”

Thinking of these concerns, Chiang Songhai rambled on while dialing Hu Xibing’s number.

Chiang Xiao was unaware of this; after listening to Aunt Juan’s gossip, she went with Ge Dejun and Xu Linjiang to Secretary Yao’s house.

As soon as Secretary Yao saw Ge Dejun and Xu Linjiang, he knew their purpose for visiting, and he welcomed their presence with open arms.

He was even more pleasantly surprised to see Chiang Xiao.

”Chiang Xiao, you’re back? Have your grandparents returned yet?”

”Long time no see, Secretary Uncle. They haven’t come back, I came alone for the weekend.”

”You’ve come back at just the right time,” Secretary Yao was not in a hurry to discuss matters with Ge Dejun and Xu Linjiang anymore and started chatting with Chiang Xiao first, ”I’m going to the county for a meeting next week, this is a rare opportunity. Let me tell you, the county has a fund to be allocated to impoverished mountain villages. How many impoverished mountain villages are there under Huaming County? How can we get our turn if we don’t fight for it, right?”

Chiang Xiao nodded, ”Siyang Village could really compete for it.

”Right, but what can you do with the money if it’s just about being impoverished? It should have some sustainable advantages, right? So I turned my attention to Bai Gu Mountain.”

Chiang Xiao was taken aback.

How coincidental? Now Secretary Yao also had his sights set on Bai Gu Mountain?

”Don’t you think Bai Gu Mountain is pretty good? This is what I’m thinking. Isn’t your granduncle and uncle thinking about contracting a hillside? I will call on others to join in and plant fruit trees, and then our village can rely on fruit trees and chestnuts to make a name for itself, and that way, poverty alleviation is hopeful, right?”

Chiang Xiao and Xu Linjiang exchanged glances, admiring Secretary Yao since he genuinely had the village’s best interests at heart, wanting to develop the economy.

However, Chiang Xiao did not look favorably upon this matter.

For one thing, the villagers’ reverence and fear of Bai Gu Mountain would not be so easily dispelled. Even though some people now also venture into the mountains to find wild fruits or the like, didn’t Xu Linjiang say? They only go up in groups and don’t dare go deep into the mountains.

If they are scared just picking wild fruits, what about working on the mountain, digging holes, and planting trees?

Another point, even if there was financial support, if villagers were to contract the mountain, surely they cannot do so without contributing their own money, can they? Nine out of ten households in the village are poor, where would they find the money?

And the last point, which is also the reason Chiang Xiao despised the villagers in her village the most, is that Siyang Village is full of lazy people!

They might spend all day gossiping about everyone’s business and get excited at the mere mention of someone else’s private affairs, but how many are actually hardworking and diligent?
