42: Chapter 42 Helm’s Persistence”Zzz...” × 999

”It’s GG.”

”Should’ve looked up a guide.”

”???” × 999

”Passed it!!!”

”Holy crap!!!” × 999

”What’s up with that damage???”

[”Class” tipped 50 Yuan. — (Even this works?)]

[”Fu Haos Eternal Fan” tipped 50 Yuan. — (Brother Hao is the GOAT!)]

Fu Hao’s livestream was currently staging the most dramatic, textbook-level, shocking reversal in his streaming career—perhaps the most heart-stopping scene since the launch of ”otherworld.”

Even Fu Hao himself, who had only managed to clear the level by relying on ”Fates Luck” to trigger that heaven-defying 10-hit combo, couldn’t fully believe he had actually done it after the dust settled.

The viewers, who had been holding their breath the entire time, were now collectively petrified in stunned silence.

After fully savoring the aftertaste of the clear and calming his wildly fluctuating emotions, Fu Hao cleared his throat, turned his attention back to the scrolling chat, and began interacting with the audience:

”I was too focused on the gameplay just now and didn’t get a chance to read everyone’s tips and chat messages, so I’ll catch up now. ’Even this works?’ Brother Class, looks like you thought I wouldn’t make it again, right?” Fu Hao said with a hint of teasing in his tone.

[”Class” tipped 50 Yuan. — (Haha; ; Awkward...)]

”Brother Yongyuan, your ID... if you run into a streamer better than me in the future, I suggest you change your name before interacting with them, okay?” Fu Hao said with a smile at the donation ID.

[”Fu Haos Eternal Fan” tipped 50 Yuan. — (Won’t change it again, otherworld only respects you!)]

After finishing the initial interaction, Fu Hao walked toward the Teleportation magic circle that had automatically generated after clearing the final stage and activated it:

[Teleportation magic circle activating, please wait. Remaining time 5 seconds... 4 seconds...]

”The prompt didn’t say exactly where to meet Helm, so I’ll just assume it’s back at his mansion,” Fu Hao explained to the camera.

- ”About to change classes to become Helm’s disciple, right?”

- ”This quest description is so lazy.”

[Teleported outside the tower]

The echo of the prompt still lingered in his ears. The moment Fu Hao’s feet touched solid ground, a massive force of impact struck him from the side, catching him off guard and causing him to stumble, nearly falling.

”Ah!” Fu Hao exclaimed.

- ”What’s happening?”

- ”Who is it?”

Fu Hao instinctively tried to push away the person who was gripping his body tightly like an octopus, but the other’s arms were as immovable as iron clamps—all he could see within his line of sight was a mess of blinding, pure white hair.

”Cough, hehe... Well done! Extremely well done!” The person let out a strange sound, mixed with sobbing and hysterical laughter, while forcefully patting Fu Hao’s back as if venting.

”Um... Senior? Could you let go first? Let’s talk properly.” Fu Hao was patted so hard he nearly lost HP, and he squeezed out a request with difficulty.

Hearing Fu Hao’s words, Helm finally loosened his grip slightly. Fu Hao took the opportunity to put some distance between them and carefully scrutinized the face in front of him, which was streaming with tears and snot, failing to recognize who it was for a moment.

- ”Is this Helm?”

- ”Judging by the clothes, it’s definitely Helm!”

- ”Isn’t Helm black-haired? Why is it all white?”

- ”Why is he crying? What about the dignity of a Legend...”

With the help of the frantic chat scrolling by, Fu Hao suddenly realized—the crazy, white-haired old man in front of him was actually one of The Seven Legends, the Legendary Knight Helm! He was shocked, hurriedly straightened his back, and tried to tidy up his appearance, which had been pulled into disarray—the other party was an absolute powerhouse who could one-shot the strongest player, Leonhardt!

”Hello, Mr. Helm. It is my great honor to have the privilege of meeting a Legendary Knight like you in person. I have always deeply admired your deeds.” Fu Hao struck his most respectful pose and spoke with a sincere tone.

- ”Kissing up like crazy.”

- ”If it were me, I’d be licking his boots too.”

Facing Fu Hao’s almost sycophantic, respectful greeting, Helm nodded with satisfaction, unable to even wipe away the tears and snot on his face: ”Good, good! My disciple is so polite! Unlike that bastard Leonhardt, completely different!”

Fu Hao was stunned upon hearing this: ”Leonhardt? You... know him?” He keenly captured this key name.

- ”Sure enough, it has to do with Leonhardt.”

- ”A Legend has heard of him too?”

- ”It’s normal for an NPC to know a top-ranked player.”

At the mention of Leonhardt, Helm seemed instantly dragged back to the day he was ruthlessly rejected, his pent-up anger erupting: ”Don’t mention that bastard! He clearly cleared my trial, yet refused to become my disciple on the spot! It’s simply unreasonable! The jerk!”

- ”So Leonhardt passed Helm’s trial!”

- ”No wonder he’s so strong!”

- ”I thought he didn’t pass, turns out he refused!”

- ”How exactly did Leonhardt pass the last stage? So curious.”

[”Fu Haos Eternal Fan” tipped 50 Yuan. — (All thanks to light)]

[”Trial Maniac” tipped 50 Yuan. — (I want to see Leonhardt’s gameplay recording)]

The audience was shocked by the explosive news that ”Leonhardt actually passed the trial,” but for Fu Hao, the impact was even greater—that final stage was like a chasm to him, which he had only barely managed to pass by relying on cheat-like titles and heaven-defying ”Fates Luck,” yet Leonhardt had managed to clear it head-on, and even refused the opportunity to become a Legendary disciple?

”Um... Mr. Helm, shall we get down to business first?” Fu Hao carefully steered the topic back.

As soon as he finished speaking, a prominent system prompt box popped up before Fu Hao’s eyes:

[Legendary Knight Helm has submitted a disciple application to you. Accepting will change your class to a new profession, do you accept?]

[Warning! Changing to a new profession will result in the loss of all skills from the current profession ”Enhancement Master”]

- ”Enhancement Master is more useful, right?”

- ”Curious about what the Legendary Knight class is like.”

- ”If he refuses... Helm will get angry, right? Feels like he’s done for.”

Fu Hao was instantly plunged into deep conflict: judging by Helm’s gnashing-of-teeth, hateful reaction when he mentioned Leonhardt earlier, if he refused like Leonhardt did, he would definitely forge a life-and-death enmity with this Legendary powerhouse—not simple resentment, but hatred etched into his bones.

”Would a dignified Legendary Knight really stoop so low as to hunt down a small player?” But thinking of Helm’s terrifying obsession with Leonhardt that had lasted for two years, Fu Hao couldn’t settle his heart.

”Sigh, this is such a headache.” Fu Hao couldn’t help but mutter to himself: That guy Leonhardt, why on earth did he refuse? Could it be that Helm’s disciple profession hides some unknown, huge, pitfall-ridden secret?

Despite his heavy doubts, Fu Hao’s choice was actually already determined—he could never give up the ”Enhancement Master” profession that was deeply bound to his core gameplay, identity, and even wealth.

”Thank you very much for your kindness and proposal, Mr. Helm.” Fu Hao took a deep breath, gathered his courage, and said, ”But... I’m afraid I cannot become your disciple.”

The ecstatic smile on Helm’s face froze instantly. He stood there as if struck by a paralysis spell, motionless, and even the light in his eyes seemed to extinguish.

”Mr. Helm?” Fu Hao called out tentatively, alarm bells ringing in his heart.

- ”Oh no!”

- ”Run, Fu Hao!”

- ”Feels like something big is about to happen!”

The keen audience immediately sensed the danger in this eerie silence and urged Fu Hao to run in the chat. However, Fu Hao just stood there, staring intently at Helm’s reaction.

Soon, Helm seemed to be pulled back to his senses by something. He slowly raised his head, his gaze refocusing on Fu Hao’s face, that look... it was complex enough to make one’s heart palpitate.

”Disciple.” Helm spoke, his voice unusually calm, even carrying a strange sense of certainty.

”Sorry, I really...” Fu Hao tried to explain again.

”No.” Helm cut him off decisively, ”You are my disciple. That is a conclusion.”

- ”What’s wrong with this old man?”

- ”Fu Hao, run! What are you waiting for!”

- ”Feels like he’s about to be killed!”

The audience’s exclamations flooded the screen, yet Helm did not fly into a rage or threaten as expected. On the contrary, the moment Helm finished speaking, a new system prompt box emitting an ominous red light forced itself before Fu Hao’s eyes:

[You have rejected Helm’s proposal.]

[Helm has developed an obsession with you!]

[Forced to accept quest ”Helm’s Obsession”, cannot abandon.]

Difficulty: None

Description: Legendary Knight Helm can only take one disciple due to his inheritance characteristics, and has been searching for a top-tier genius for nearly 10 years. He is incomparably certain that you possess the highest talent in the world and has decided to abandon all dignity and reserve, following by your side until you accept the disciple application.

Clear Condition: Accept Helm’s disciple application

Reward: Helm’s Favorability increased to ”Trusted”; Helm stops stalking behavior.

Reading the full quest description word for word, Fu Hao’s heart was far from depressed; instead, an indescribable secret joy surged within him: ”Although I can’t become his disciple, I now have a Legendary Knight-level super hitter and bodyguard following me around? This deal... is simply a huge profit!”

A flash of light crossed his eyes, a friendly smile quickly piled onto his face, and he took the initiative to reach out to Helm, who was still staring at him fixedly:

”As for being a disciple, I’m afraid I really can’t do that. But... please take care of me from now on, Mr. Helm.”

”No.” Helm also reached out, gripping Fu Hao’s hand forcefully, as if to leave a mark, ”You will definitely become my disciple. I guarantee it.”

Fu Hao was calculating how to maximize the use of this ”free” Legendary combat power. Helm was single-mindedly convinced that Fu Hao would eventually succumb to his ”obsession” and join his sect. The moment their eyes met, a subtle, tacit, yet completely different light flashed in each of their eyes.

— — — —

Meanwhile, somewhere far away. One of The Seven Legends, the ”Priest” Coleman, was communicating with another Legend—the ”Archer” Urs—through a suspended magic crystal lens.

”Hey, Urs, have you heard?”

”What is it? Did you find another rare magic beast?”

”No! It’s Helm! That guy... finally took a disciple!”

”Bullshit.” Urs sneered, not believing it at all, ”That crappy trial of his, who can pass it besides that adventurer monster named Leonhardt? And even he refused him. Take a disciple? In his next life.”

”It’s true! Absolutely true! If you don’t believe me, go check the news network yourself!” Coleman retracted his smile, his expression becoming extremely serious.

Seeing Coleman’s expression, which was definitely not a joke, the disdain on Urs’s face gradually solidified and dissipated, and he finally realized that the matter might be true. His brows knit tightly.

”Searched for... ten years.”

”To be exact, 9 years and 7 months.” Coleman corrected precisely.

”You’re still counting? How boring.” Urs said with disdain, but his eyes betrayed his curiosity.

”Just you aren’t boring? Aren’t you curious?”

”Curious... Helm’s disciple?” Urs stroked his stubble, ”He yells ’highest talent’, ’highest talent’ all day, it’s been a full ten years. My ears have grown calluses.”

”Yeah. So... it took ten years to find one?”

”Tch.” Urs clicked his tongue, ”I want to see for myself what this ’highest talent’ he blows up to the heavens is actually like. What about you? Are you coming?”

”Aren’t you afraid of being outdone?” Coleman asked with a teasing smile.

”What are you talking about!” Urs was like a cat stepped on its tail, instantly bristling, ”My disciple would lose to Helm’s? Absolutely impossible!” He was full of confidence in the disciple he had carefully trained.

”Oh? But some people think your disciple is the strongest among us.” Coleman said slowly, then changed the subject, ”However... I heard that not long ago, during a large event, he was defeated by that Leonhardt? Is that true?”

”That’s because that guy used shady methods...!” Urs’s face flushed red, and he argued excitedly.

”Get over it, Urs.” Coleman poked through it mercilessly, ”Lost is lost, still refusing to admit it? Be careful that your precious disciple learns this bad habit of yours.”

”Shut up!” Urs was embarrassed and angry, ”Cut the crap! Going or not?”

”...” Coleman pondered for a moment, ”...A bit curious. Helm should still be in the Rowen Kingdom, right?”

”Yes.”

”When are you leaving for the Rowen Kingdom?” Coleman asked, then added, ”However, why go now? Isn’t it better to wait for our next gathering of the seven? It’s not long now anyway.”

”Helm will bring his precious disciple to the gathering?” Urs expressed doubt.

”Hard to say. Anyway, I’m not going to join in the fun, you go yourself.” Coleman waved his hand.

”Spineless!” Urs despised, ”Be independent, don’t always cling to your sister (referring to another Legend).”

”You’re the —” Before Coleman’s retort could come out, Urs had already cleanly cut off the magic communication. In the crystal lens, Coleman’s face, filled with anger, vanished instantly.

This magic communicator was the masterpiece of Loki, the genius artifact craftsman who was one of The Seven Legends, supporting remote audio and video calls between devices of the same model. However, limited by distance and magic interference, The Seven Legends could only truly gather once a year during offline meetings.

”Helm’s disciple...” Urs stroked the communicator in his hand, muttering to himself. He said he didn’t care, but he was exactly the one among The Seven Legends who cared the most about the matter of ”who would eventually become Helm’s disciple.”

”Tch, for the first time... I’m looking forward to the gathering coming quickly.” He looked out the window, his eyes full of the desire to explore.

He was completely unaware that at this moment, Helm was engaged in a unilateral ”clinging” action, and that ”disciple” he pinned his hopes on had still not nodded.
