Chapter 748: Fey’s Stand

Fey’s Stand

Aria’s expression softened with curiosity, though her eyes stayed fixed on Fey. ”She’s choosing her moment carefully...”

Mia instinctively moved closer to Sona, her voice low. ”Is... is she going to say something?”

Sona didn’t answer immediately. Her blue eyes studied Fey with quiet intensity. ”...She already is. Just not with words yet.”

Cynthia stood composed, but her gaze sharpened a fraction. ”She’s stepping into the center. That alone is a statement.”

Tsubaki exhaled softly, her posture straightening. ”Then this isn’t a whim.”

Nova crossed her arms, watching closely. ”No. It’s a move.”

Even the maids at the edge of the hall stilled, their whispers dying before they could form.

At the center of it all—

Fey kept walking.

Each step was light, controlled, echoing faintly against the vast marble floor. The distance between her and Leon wasn’t far... but she didn’t rush it. She let the silence stretch, let every eye follow her.

Her expression was calm.

Too calm.

But not empty.

There was something beneath it—something steady, something decided.

Her hands rested loosely at her sides, fingers relaxed, not clenched. Her shoulders were straight, but not stiff. There was no fear in her steps... and no arrogance either.

Just intent.

Clear. Quiet. Unshakable.

She didn’t look at the others.

Not once.

Her gaze stayed forward.

On him.

Leon.

A weight settled in the space around her when she drew near the foot of the throne.

Something stood there, not simply pressing down but filling space like smoke. Breathing turned slow, each draw weighed by what hung in the air. Silence arrived without warning, slipping through the hall unnoticed at first. Not even fabric shifting against steel broke the stillness - walls seemed to lean inward, holding their own breath.

A slight tilt came to Leon’s head. He adjusted it just a bit, almost without noticing.

”...Fey?”

A light stirred behind his gaze - not just knowing, yet edged with alertness. It had reached him before words could form. That change. What followed. Not silence, but tension threading through still air.

Just short of the throne, she came to a halt.

A step back would’ve been safe. Instead, it hovered just there. Where breath could mix without permission. Close enough for secrets to feel heavy. Almost touching - but not quite.

She walked ahead while glances passed among the rest.

A faint grin tugged at Rias’s mouth as her red eyes tightened slightly. She whispered almost too quietly to catch - ”Then she actually went through with it.” A hint of laughter slipped in, softened by what felt like pride.

Aria folded her arms, calm-faced yet watching close. It took a while, but now here you are, she murmured, quiet but clear.

Cynthia stayed silent at first. Her eyes moved slow - focused, weighing things without rushing. A nod came through, not loud but clear. It settled like dust after a step on stone.

Kyra felt Syra shift closer, voice low. A smile played on her lips as she murmured, ”Now things are picking up.”

Still silent, Kyra held her gaze fixed on Fey. Watching each inhale, the slightest shake. Not breaking eye contact even when speaking low - ”This isn’t light,” she murmured, voice barely lifting off the floor

Fingers curled just shy of fabric. Quiet words slipped out - more thought than speech - as eyes stayed fixed ahead.

Nova gave a faint exhale, arms folded. ”Nervous doesn’t make someone walk up to him like that.”

Still as stone, Tsubaki held her ground - yet something in her eyes gave way, ever so slightly. This instant wasn’t lost on her.

Something unspoken moved from one to the other. The moment held still without words needing to fill it.

Then -

One by one -

Forward they moved as well.

Pausing, never hurrying. Moving forward without delay. Every footfall measured, like it knows a secret too quiet to name.

Together, they stood now.

Not scattered.

Not waiting.

But united.

Now it could not be ignored. A pressure built, much like tension in a pulled bow.

A flicker of doubt crossed Leon’s face. His gaze tightened at the edges.

Not in anger.

In curiosity.

A flicker showed up just then. Not quite interest, but close. A quiet weighing of options. Underneath the stillness, another layer waited.

”What’s that?” he said, voice steady.

Floating across the room, his voice stayed low. No increase in volume was necessary. Effortless, it moved through the space.

”You all look like you’ve decided something.”

Fey inhaled.

At first, just a ripple. After that, down went the feeling. Her hands found balance - still, tightness clung to her back.

Fingers bent just a touch where they hung. The slight curl stayed low by her hips.

A shift so slight - it shouted more than words ever could. Stillness held her frame, yet tension whispered beneath.

A hush followed, then Rias spoke once more, her words gentler than before. ”Keep going,” she offered, no tease in her tone - just a quiet push forward.

Aria added quietly, ”No one’s stopping you.”

Calm but steady came Cynthia’s words. ”Speak it right.”

Fey swallowed.

Her chin dipped forward, a quiet moment settling in. Down went her gaze, soft but certain.

Far from being something to study. Yet still present in the frame.

Just not wearing that crown.

Yet in another form entirely.

A quiet moment, perhaps. Openness shows here instead of hiding behind words. This feels different because it is.

Stillness took hold of her, if only for a breath. A pause settled where motion should have been.

Stillness settled in as her hands touched the dress, fingers pressing just enough to leave a trace. Pale showed at the knuckles, not because she trembled, yet from holding back words too heavy to drop carelessly. Sound seemed thinner suddenly, drawn out or gone. As if air itself waited - everyone paused mid-breath, already knowing something had changed without hearing it spoken.

Out of nowhere, her voice cracked as she spoke.

A tiny shake ran through it. It barely moved.

”My husband - no, my king.”

A shift passed through her voice, gentle yet certain. Midway through speaking, she paused - just long enough to pull back. This time, before words formed, air filled her lungs slowly. Sound returned, firmer now, though not hollow. Underneath ran a thread, unfiltered. Real.

Out of nowhere, her words held firm. Stillness lived in how she spoke.

But beneath it -

There was emotion.

”We... have a request.”

Out came the words, nothing soft about them. Down they went, thick in the air, each one placed on purpose.

The air tightened.

No one moved.

A slight shift backward came over Leon.

A quiet sort of focus instead. A beat passed before his gold-flecked gaze tightened slightly, fixed on her face like something unspoken was already halfway out. Then stillness.

”Oh?”

His tone softened.

”Go on.”

Fey stayed quiet at first.

Her gaze shifted then - not rushed, but measured. She moved her face like that: careful, unhurried.

Fey glanced sideways.

At Rui.

A tiny nod came from Rui, meant to calm, yet her hands twitched just out of sight. Behind her, fingers moved without stillness.

At Lena.

Lena folded her arms tight. Her face stayed steady. ”Speak up,” she said low, yet clear.” .

At Mona.

A small smile touched Mona’s lips, quiet but steady. Her gaze held something sure, something grounded. We have arrived, she seemed to say without words

At Mira.

A breath slipped out of Mira - tight, quiet. Her voice came steady despite the tremor underneath: ”Now isn’t the time to pull away.” She stood firm, eyes fixed ahead

At Lilyn.

Fey felt the weight of a look that warmed like morning light, steady and sure. A small tilt of Lilyn’s head followed, almost too faint to catch.

At Chloe.

For just a moment, Chloe paused - after that, she squared her shoulders, giving a small nod, firmer than it had any right to be. She said, ”We stand by you.”
