Chapter 728: The Heart of Nagarath

The Heart of Nagarath

Footsteps crunching gravel, the royal palace came into view bit by bit near Leon. The shape grew clearer with every step they took alongside him.

Far past the garden’s edge, tall towers cut into the clouds, edges bright under the slanting light. Expanses of courtyard spilled away in every direction, flat and shimmering like calm ocean floors. Along endless walkways, rows of pale columns stood close together, each one cool and unbroken as glass.

From every angle, sunlight caught golden details tucked into railings, nestled within arches, glowing faintly on balcony rims far overhead.

Money alone didn’t do it. What mattered came after.

A shape of strength sat inside the rock. Stone held what force had made its mark.

Feet dragging just a little, the women moved slower without meaning to, gazes drifting over stone walls and rooftops, caught in silent wonder. Then stillness crept in.

Suddenly aware of the walls around them, Syra edged closer to Nova. Her words slipped out quieter, like a secret meant only for stone to ignore.

”Okay...” she whispered, her green eyes glinting with amusement. ”Now I understand why people fight wars over kingdoms.”

Floating above the great buildings, Nova looked on without wonder - just quiet thought. A beat passed before her head dipped slightly, agreeing in silence.

”It’s not just power,” she said quietly.

Her chin dipped sideways. ”Hmm?”

Cynthia cut in before Nova got the last word out, standing just beside Leon. Her voice moved slow but sure, like she’d known the outcome long before anyone asked.

Legacy, that’s what it is, said Cynthia.

Up her gaze moved, fixed on the tallest spire piercing the sky above the palace.

”Buildings like these aren’t made for one king,” she continued softly. ”They’re made to outlive generations.”

Fingers pressed tight across her chest, Syra leaned back on one foot, eyes tracing the sky-scraping walls above. A pause came before she spoke - kings leave stone giants behind just so nobody forgets their names

Cynthia’s mouth curled slightly, a small grin tugging at one side. Yet beneath it was something deeper - what the coming ruler needed to hold close

A quiet laugh escaped Syra. Her eyes flicked toward Leon’s shoulder while their steps moved forward. What he said seemed to drain all energy, just listening

Silence hung between them before she finally spoke.”.

A quiet grin touched Leon’s face when he caught their words.

Still facing forward, a small smile gave it away. Laughter traveled across the empty space between buildings, catching his attention in ways he hadn’t predicted. To these two, everything unfolding was the closest they’d ever been to where Nagarath’s authority truly lived.

For him...

Every day felt the same way now.

Just past a few quiet turns on foot, the heart of the palace came into view.

There it stayed.

The Throne Hall.

From far away, it still pulled your eye. Standing in the middle of the open space, heavy and unshakable, almost as if power had taken shape - everything nearby seemed smaller just by comparison.

Up ahead, huge black pillars stood guard at the gate, rising like ancient sentinels many floors tall. Carved into each surface were swirling shapes - snakes made of rock curling slowly toward the clouds above. Every groove and ridge showed such care you could swear something moved beneath your gaze. Staring too long made the figures seem restless, ready to uncoil without warning.

A trail of golden threads moved through the black rock, glowing faintly as their feet drew near. Each shift forward lit another spark along the hidden paths.

A hush fell over Syra when her gaze caught the doorway. Her pace dipped, just a beat.

”Well,” she whispered softly. ”It’s... a lot.”

A soft sigh slipped out of Nova. The words followed, almost like they had always been there - ”This was supposed to happen.”

Above the tall doorway, a massive sign was suspended.

Floating above the dark red weave, a serpent with seven gold heads lay outstretched, every face turned somewhere new - like it sees everything happening everywhere. When air moves touched the material, the metal strands blinked like sunlight on water.

The symbol of Nagarath.

Cynthia stared at it, then finally said something soft. Not seven parts of a body - seven ways things could go. Her voice stayed low

Syra blinked. ”You know what it means?”

”Vigilance,” Cynthia replied calmly. ”A king must see threats from every direction.”

Her fingers moved to the base of her skull. Just saying, Leon - you decide

A quiet laugh slipped out from Leon, though he kept his mouth shut after that.

A line of guards held position by the hall’s entrance, rigid and shoulder to shoulder. Sunlight leapt off their armor, bright as sparks on a blade. Not one shifted weight or turned head - motionless, each fixed in place by strict order.

The moment Leon stepped close

All guards shifted together.

A single spark flew when both slammed their blades down at once.

A sudden crack split the courtyard air - sharp, loud - as if thunder had snapped right overhead. The force pushed outward, shaking stone posts and high walls, then drifted upward, vanishing into empty space above.

”His Majesty King Leon!”

Far behind the first blow came their shouts, rising so sharply the atmosphere seemed to tremble.

Some women jerked back without thinking when the noise cracked through the air. Others snapped their eyes shut, caught off guard by how loud it came on.

Her eyes fluttered open. A lopsided smile tugged at her lips as she cocked her head sideways.

”...Okay, that was dramatic.”

A few of them let out quiet laughs.

Elsewhere, Rias gave little notice to the soldiers. Upward drifted her red gaze, fixed on the massive shape ahead. Above the yard it rose, that building, tall and stern. Pillars of stone climbed skyward, etched deeply with winding designs. From balconies near the top, flags moved slow in the air.

”...This place is enormous,” she murmured.

Into the quiet space Aria moved, close at her side, those purple eyes catching light from the old stone. Not rushing, she let her stare drift over curves and high lines of the building’s shape. The way it rose and bent seemed to hold her attention without sound.

”It’s beautiful,” she murmured, her voice soft like breath on glass, eyes tracing each careful line of it.

Now she stayed a step back, silver-white strands drifting with the wind. Over the weathered rock her gaze crept, following lines cut deep like forgotten words waiting to be spoken again. Then silence settled between her thoughts.

”It feels... ancient,” she whispered, almost to herself. ”Like it’s been watching the world for a very long time.”

Ahead of the pack, Commander Black let his pace drop when the giant doorway came into view. Facing the others now, he stood still - boots pressing down, sound muffled by stone.

A slight grin tugged at the corner of his mouth - rare, for someone so rigid. His expression, normally unyielding, softened just a fraction.

”My queens,” he said with a respectful bow of his head, ”this building was personally designed by His Majesty.”
