Chapter 735: The King Ascends

The King Ascends

This was something else.

Footsteps heavy, today Leon sat quieter than before - no laughter about cheap red wine, none of those made-up debates meant only to tease out their grumbles.

Up close, his shadow stretched longer across the stone. The steps made him seem wider too. Height came from where you stood. Distance added weight to posture. A crown does that. Even empty air around him felt denser.

Sharper.

More dangerous.

Upward he went, the atmosphere changing, almost as if the walls knew who moved through them. A hush followed each step, not loud but present, like breath held too long. The space above pulled tighter, thinner, responding to his rise without sound or sign - just a tilt in how things felt. With every stair passed, the silence grew heavier, shaped by something unseen watching, waiting. Not magic, not exactly, just awareness woven into stone and shadow.

A hush followed each step on the smooth floor, slow, deliberate. As he moved forward, the hall felt alive, matching his pace. The stillness pressed heavier near the throne. Officers and nobles lined the walls, eyes fixed ahead - no one spoke up. This wasn’t a time for words.

Aria crossed her arms, saying nothing.

Those purple eyes stayed on Leon, quiet but sharp, watching like only family might. Not shocked at all. More like - pleased. Then, just after silence settled, her mouth curled up the smallest bit.

”He wears authority well,” she murmured.

Cynthia stood close, seeing what unfolded but slower, quieter in her noticing. From Leon her glance went - to the throne - and back once more to him - each look deliberate.

Fine indeed,” she said, soft but clear.

Aria looked over, a small smile playing on her lips. She found the moment quietly funny.

”Is that a compliment or a warning?”

A small smile tugged at Cynthia’s mouth.

”Both.”

Out of nowhere, Syra shifted closer to Nova, her words slipping out quieter than a breath - like she was passing along something that could get them both in trouble.

”Why is this suddenly attractive?”

Nova didn’t answer.

Something had shifted behind her eyes while they stayed fixed on Leon. Not cold, not warm - just far away, as if measuring him without words. A quiet look, not quite present, more like she was piecing together a puzzle he didn’t know existed.

She gave a small push with her elbow.

”Nova?”

Still nothing.

Her eyes flicked open - soft words slipped out, almost silent. ”Right... never saw that before.”

Commander Black suddenly seemed taller.

Once a young man, he stood in that hall long ago. Kings took their place upon the seat - some trembling, others sneering. Power looked different on each one. Some clutched it like coins, others wore it like armor too heavy to bear.

This time, it wasn’t like before.

A flicker of tension crossed his jaw while Leon reached the last step. Not a sound, just a quiet alarm deep inside. Decades in the thick of it had taught his body when things changed before his mind could catch up.

Foot hitting the last rise, Leon stood tall. The climb ended right there.

A moment passed before he moved, still as the glow poured down through the arching glass. Behind, the seat of rule stayed empty, unmoving, holding its breath.

Then he turned briefly.

Below him stood everyone who mattered.

His wives.

Lord Ronan.

Vice Commander Johny.

Commander Black.

The pillars of the kingdom.

Their gazes met his. Loyalty. Curiosity. Calculation. Pride. Every emotion in the room seemed to converge on that single moment.

A small smile touched his lips.

Then he sat.

The throne seemed almost designed for him.

The golden serpents curling along the arms of the chair gleamed beneath the sunlight, their polished scales catching the light with every subtle movement. The black metal frame contrasted sharply with the gold, giving the throne an almost predatory elegance.

Gems embedded in the throne reflected the light like tiny stars scattered across the dark metal.

For a moment the hall was silent.

Not the ordinary silence of a quiet room.

The kind that appears when everyone realizes something important has just happened.

Rows of nobles, commanders, and officials stood beneath the vaulted ceiling, their eyes fixed on the man seated above them. The air felt heavier than before, thick with anticipation. Some looked impressed. Some looked wary. A few looked like they were still trying to decide whether what they were witnessing was brilliant... or terrifying.

Then Leon leaned forward slightly, resting one arm on the throne.

The movement was relaxed—almost lazy—but the shift instantly broke the tension in the room.

”Well,” he said casually.

”Now can we talk?”

A ripple of quiet laughter moved through the hall, like a breath finally released.

Several people laughed quietly.

Even Johny allowed himself a small smile.

Johny shook his head faintly, muttering under his breath, ”Only you would sit on a throne like that and still sound bored.”

Leon heard it.

Of course he did.

He just ignored it.

Inside, however—

Leon’s thoughts had already shifted.

This throne...

This kingdom...

It’s no longer just survival.

It’s transformation.

His gaze moved slowly across the hall—studying faces, weighing loyalties, measuring reactions. Every person present today would become a piece on the board whether they realized it or not.

Below the throne, his wives were watching him with open admiration.

Rias leaned slightly toward the others, crimson hair falling over one shoulder as a playful smirk touched her lips.

”He looks good up there.”

Sona nodded softly, adjusting her glasses with a calm, approving expression.

”He does.”

There was pride in her voice, quiet but unmistakable.

Natasha crossed her arms, her eyes sharp as she studied Leon the way a seasoned warrior studies a battlefield.

”Dangerous.”

Syra clasped her hands dramatically, green eyes sparkling with exaggerated wonder.

”I suddenly understand why people become tyrants.”

Rias chuckled under her breath. ”Careful. If he hears you, he might start enjoying it.”

Syra leaned closer and whispered back, ”Too late. Look at him.”

Leon pretended not to hear them.

Which only made them more amused.

He lifted one hand slightly.

The movement wasn’t loud.

It didn’t need to be.

The hall quieted instantly.

”So,” he said.

”You all know why we gathered here.”

His voice echoed clearly through the throne hall.

”But let me say it officially.”

His golden eyes sharpened, the casual tone fading into something far more deliberate.

”Because starting today...”

”This kingdom begins to change.”

A subtle shift ran through the crowd—some straightening, others exchanging uneasy glances. The weight of those words settled over the room like the opening note of a storm.

And the meeting that would reshape Nagarath had just begun.
