Chapter 706: When the King Comes Home [Part-2]

When the King Comes Home [Part-2]

Lira nodded. ”And warmer. Moonstone felt... colder.”

A moment of silence settled then.

Mia cocked her head. ”Colder?” she said.

Lira’s gaze eased a little. ”No bruises. Only... hollow.”

Syra tilted her head, a small grin forming as she folded one leg across the knee of the other. Her voice came slow - ”It was missing him.”

A soft throw pillow flew across the room, aimed true even though Rias did not turn around. Her voice carried one word only - ”Obviously.”

A soft thud landed on Syra’s shoulder - fabric meeting bone. Her breath caught, sharp and sudden.

”Violence? In our own home?” Syra clutched her chest. ”Kyra, witness this injustice.”

Kyra kept her eyes down. ”It wouldn’t have reacted if you hadn’t pushed.”

A light chuckle moved through the space.

Faintly, a curve touched the edge of her mouth. The moment hung without sound.

A flicker at the doorway caught Nova’s eye long before it drew any attention.

He stayed put, just past the point of needing to.

Watching.

Listening.

No sound came from him as he entered. There was no reason to speak up. After all, this place belonged to him. Still, just for a moment, he stayed frozen in the entrance, blending into the quiet.

A weight inside him began to ease.

Easy to see they were relaxed. Not watching their backs. Just hanging loose. Peaceful in their own skin.

It isn’t the barriers that matter. What counts lies beyond them.

They found reasons to stay through small moments, quiet glances holding more than words ever could.

A small cough broke the silence. The sound slipped into the room like a shadow.

A hush came through, soft yet clear. It moved without force.

”My wives,” he said with a faint smile, voice smooth. ”What conspiracies are being formed without your king?”

Every head turned.

A jolt ran through everything right away - no tightness, just a spark in the air.

For a long while, Rias stayed still. Her chin rested on her hand, eyes fixed on him as if she had known this would happen all along.

Syra straightened, grin widening. ”Oh good. We were just voting on something.”

Mildly, Aria tilted her head. ”Were we?” she said.

”Mm.” Syra nodded solemnly. ”Whether to renovate the east wing into a private garden... or your training hall.”

A flicker of surprise lifted one eyebrow on Leon’s face. Outnumbered, he thought to himself. That must be it

Mia blurted it out - yes, completely - before catching her breath. His gaze landed on her. Heat rose into her cheeks.

Cynthia spoke next, calm and precise. ”We were discussing improvements. Structural adjustments. Nothing treasonous.”

”Yet,” Syra added.

A glance from Tsubaki landed on her, sharp and sudden.

A quiet shift crossed Sona’s face when her eyes met his. It took a beat before she said anything - then, simply: he had arrived behind schedule

”Could that be me?” he said, almost smiling.

Her eyes stayed fixed on him, watchful. Noticing things. ”Time stretched out more than planned,” she said

Instead of replying straight off, he stayed quiet. Silence followed his pause instead.

A shift in Nova’s stance opened the doorway wider. Head tilting just a touch, Natasha acknowledged his presence. With quiet grace, the maids dipped low, keeping the air gentle between them.

A spark flashed in Chloe’s gaze even as her feet stayed planted, her posture stiff with forced calm.

Away from the door, Leon moved forward slowly. His feet touched the floor one after another. The space inside opened up ahead of him. Each step came without hurry.

Flickering light danced through strands of his hair. Not from any effort on his part - but the space near him changed anyway, pulled by something quiet, automatic.

One by one, his gaze moved across their faces.

Rias’ playful defiance.

Aria’s measured calm.

Cynthia’s quiet scrutiny.

Flicker in Syra. Pause in Kyra.

Sunlight on stone. A quiet voice beneath it.

One stood firm. Another stayed close by. Each one there, holding their ground without a word.

Home.

Just like that -

The air changed.

”Well now,” began Rias, shifting a little closer, her mouth lifting at one edge. ”Looks like our ruler decides to come back after all.”

Just now the room was full of noise - low voices, silk brushing against itself, fire snapping quietly - but then Leon appeared and everything narrowed. What came next felt edged. People exhaled like they’d forgotten how. The air stretched thin, pulled by something older than silence.

Footsteps dragged across the floor, steady on purpose. The latch settled shut by itself - just a soft sound, like something locking into place.

”Yes,” he replied lightly. ”Your servant king has arrived.”

Some eyes rose slightly when they heard it.

Aria tipped her head sideways, those purple eyes tightening into a look that danced between grace and mockery. Was she really being called servant?

To my queens, he began, palm pressed to his heart like it meant something. Always came after that, quiet but sure

Syra snorted. ”Careful. We might start giving you chores.”

”It is too late,” Cynthia said softly, yet her smile showed through at the edges.

Laughter came, though underneath sat relief. Still, the sound carried more than joy.

Real relief.

That moment went beyond jokes. After so many silent days, it felt like finally breathing again. A soft worry lived there - what if his sense of duty pulled him away, changed who he was.

Up she got from the sofa.

Not once had she hurried. Rushing wasn’t her way. Down her back flowed red hair, deep as embers glowing low, while she moved toward him, shoes whispering on the ground.

After a pause, she moved nearer. Her words softened as she spoke. Approach me now

He stood before her now. Near enough that he could sense the heat coming off her skin. So near, the small strain around her eyes showed - something she tried hard to hide.

Her voice slipped out low, like a quiet charge. You seem worn down.

”You look dangerous,” he replied.

”That’s because I am.”

She didn’t hesitate.

Down he came when her hand caught the coat’s edge. The fabric tightened under her grip.

Into his mouth slid her lips.

Not tentative.

Not polite.

Hungry.

A gasp hid inside that moment, more than lips meeting after silence stretched too long. Weeks pressed down, then snapped - suddenly her hands twisted the cloth on his chest, tight enough to leave marks. She held on like the world tilted and only he stayed still.

A gasp escaped Leon when her hands gripped the cloth on his chest. Warmth spread across his mouth, her touch gentle yet urgent. It felt as if weeks of silence collapsed into that single moment. The kiss carried weight - not rushed, but full.

He responded immediately.

A hush fell as his palm found the curve of her hip, drawing her close. From there, his second hand rose, slipping gently beneath waves of red, cupping her skull like something already known.

The kiss deepened.

Fingers brushed. Warmth spread through skin. A moment passed without sound.

A hush slipped out - more breath than voice, almost a rumble - and she stepped into him, lifting herself gently. Down went his head, a little give in his stance, allowing her the space to claim it.

Only then did she step away, mouth puffy, gaze heavy. Her breath came slow, face lit by something unspoken.

”For now,” she murmured breathlessly, ”I’ll accept that greeting.”

”For now?” he repeated, his voice deeper than it had been moments earlier.

She smirked. ”You’re on probation.”

Syra didn’t wait.

Out of the way, she murmured, brushing past Rias with a gentle bump of her hip.

A sigh slipped out as Rias looked away - still, she didn’t stop it. ”Just keep your teeth off,” came quiet behind clenched lips

”No promises.”

From the corner of the room, Syra moved close, taking hold without warning. Her palms found his shoulders, steady but light. Not fierce, her kiss began with a grin behind it - soft pecks, spaced apart, each one lingering just long enough to make him wait. Once. Then again. A rhythm that felt like questioning more than claiming.

Then suddenly fierce.

A sudden grip took hold of her hands. Then came a faint brush of teeth on his bottom lip, easing just as quickly.

”You were gone way too long,” she breathed, her lips brushing his.

”I was in the same palace,” he replied, barely breathing.

”Not with us.”

That landed.

Fingers slid down to rest just above her waist. ”Wish I’d been here earlier.”

”You ought to have done it,” she remarked, though the sharpness was gone by then.

Her lips met his again, lingering longer now, before she pulled away, eyes bright. Okay, she thought, maybe just a little forgiveness could fit here

Just as his breath began to steady, Lira moved ahead.

A glint ran through her pale hair as the light caught it. Her gaze held his, those cold blue eyes unblinking.

”You look thinner,” she observed.

”That’s your greeting?”

”That’s worry,” she said, softening her voice.
