Chapter 209: Crown of Blessings

Crown of Blessings

The courtyard was ablaze with quiet.

Then a solitary voice—deep, weighed down with age and respect.

A murmur spread through the moonlit courtyard as King Aurelian’s voice sliced through the silence, slow and measured:

”I, Aurelian Moonlight, King of this Moonstone Kingdom... bless you, Princess Lira.”

Every word dropped like stone into calm water—measured, plain, but with the full force of a king’s power. The throne rooms did not erupt in cheers. Rather, they rang with breath caught, with hearts hearing—as if even the marble under their feet recalled how seldom such favors came.

Princess Lira bowed low, her silver hair cascading over her shoulders like liquid moonlight. Her heart raced behind the façade of royalty.

She had waited her whole life to hear those words—not from a monarch, but from her father.

He was always aloof. Looming. A man who stood too far above the clouds of responsibility to notice the little girl looking up.

And now... he had spoken.

Not merely as king.

But as her blood.

Lira looked up.

The King sat regally on the crescent-moon throne, wrought from ancient starlight and obsidian stone. His face continued to be impassive—carved with years of rule and control. Wearing silver-black robes that glistened like dusk embroidered with steel, he was every inch the monarch the realm held in awe.

There was no warmth in his words. No gentleness.

But still—it was a blessing. One she’d yearned in silence for as long as she could recall.

Her eyes dwelled on him, seeking something—some silent glimmer of affection behind frost-colored eyes.

There was only duty, however. Cold, unyielding, absolute.

Then—softness unfolded, as a singing voice broke softly into the hush.

Next to the King, Queen Sona leaned forward. Her stance was elegant, her presence serene—like the soft quiet before moonrise.

Her voice slipped into silence, low and songlike, woven from moonlight and remembrance.

”I, Queen Sona...” she said, and her voice stroked the air,

”...bless you too, my daughter. May the road ahead bring not just power—but joy.”

Lira’s breath stopped.

Her mother’s voice, full of elegance, enveloped her like remembrance. Like home.

Years of unspoken strength—of whispered lessons, of quiet hands on restless nights, of ferocious love behind veils and protocol—rang out in that lone, simple sentence.

And something within her began to settle.

The tempest gentled. The burden lightened.

A smile, small and bright, came to her lips.

Tears sparkled unshed.

Her mother had always beheld her. Always stood by her—even in shadow. Even in silence.

She had never really been alone.

She bent her head again.

”Thank you,” she breathed—so softly that only the dais itself could have heard.

The Master of Ceremonies advanced, staff in hand, his voice ringing like a bell through the great hall:

”Her Highness has been blessed by the royal family. Now, she shall be endorsed by the three Pillars of the realms.”

Lira stood, moving with liquid ease—like moonlight gliding across silk.

This time, she did not bow.

She bent her knee. A flawless, elegant 90 degrees—neither too short, nor too long. Not the bow of a simple subject, but of a princess who knew the solemnity of custom... and bore the pride of her lineage with unshakeable dignity.

”I, Lira Moonlight, Princess of the realm, ask for blessings and acknowledgment as I enter age and responsibility,” she asserted. Her tone was composed, but it echoed through the courtyard like a bell in the moonlight. ”To the three Pillars—may the wisdom of yours guide my rule.”

She raised her gaze, steady and peaceful, to those who now controlled her destiny.

Duke Edric Starlight. Duchess Nova. Duke Leon Moonwalker.

”With your permission, I finish this holy ritual.”

A silence swept the courtyard. Time froze.

Then—

Edric moved forward.

He smiled.

It was lovely—refined, measured. A courtly smile of charm trained over decades. But beneath that glint of decorum, Lira felt it—the sting of ambition. A predator disguised as silk and courtesy.

”Rise, Princess,” Edric said, his voice like smooth marble—cool, flawless, and carefully measured. ”There’s no need for such solemnity. You are the crown’s jewel now.”

He tilted his head slightly, eyes gleaming with an unreadable glint.

”You stand among equals here—as the future of the throne.”

Their gazes met.

Unflinching.

”I grant you my blessing, Your Highness,” he went on. ”May your moon never grow less—and may those who oppose you be devoured by darkness. May your future be sharper than any sword we carry.”

Lira smiled.

Gracious. Poised. Unblemished.

But deep in her chest, something contracted—a soft twist of tension, watchful and still.

She did not trust him.

He was Mia’s father. And Mia had warned her—subtly, with eyes cast down but voice firm—of the man beyond the charm. The cold intelligence veiled in courtesy. The aspiration concealed behind polished elegance.

But Lira disclosed nothing.

No wavering of uncertainty. No quiver in her tone. Her stance was flawless, every inch a princess.

”Thank you, Duke Starlight,” she answered, every word calculated, her voice silk wrapped over steel. ”Your blessing honors me.”

Edric nodded, his face pleasant, but his smile lingered a fraction too long. As if probing the edges of her control.

Then there was Nova.

She sat like a tempest waiting to break—regal and still, yet seething with unbridled power. The rich teal of her dress glimmered in the light of the lanterns, reflecting off the silver threads like moon on water.

When she spoke, it wasn’t loud. It didn’t have to be. It rang out—clear and crisp, like the edge of a blade.

”I too grant my blessing, Princess,” Nova replied. ”May you shine like the moon, pierce the shadows, and be the sword and shield this kingdom will someday require. May your radiance lead armies on, and your determination never waver.”

There was no poetry in her words—only reality. Reality of scars won, of battles won in flame and determination. It was the voice of a woman who had shed blood for her crown. Who had chiseled herself into history with unyielding ferocity.

Lira’s heart responded.

She had loved Nova since she could remember—the woman shaped from rumors and tales of war. A woman who had come from devastation and towered above anyone ever would.

”I will,” Lira whispered, but there was steel behind her gentleness. ”Thank you, Duchess Nova. I shall become what the kingdom requires... just as you became what you did.”

She spoke the truth.

She had learned Nova’s life. Had listened. Had studied. And now, in the presence of the court, Lira silently promised to stand apart on her expectation.

Nova’s nod was slow and deliberate. Her expression was impassive—but in her eyes, there was a flicker. A faint glow. Approval. or maybe recognition.

And then.

Lira turned to him.

To Leon.

Her breath hitched.

The golden-eyed duke sat on his throne like a force of nature clad in midnight and gold. Power and poise emanated from him, effortless and absolute. When their eyes met—

The world stayed still.

Even his wives, standing behind him like silent stars, sensed it—that pause. That still, breathless moment between two souls on the brink of something unnamed.

Leon observed her—calm, serene. But below that quiet surface, something shifted in his eyes. A silent pull. A quiet understanding.

Slowly, he opened his lips.

The court stood still, poised.

And then Leon uttered his words—not with shouting, but with the weight of silence that caused even silence to lean forward to listen.

”Princess Lira,” he started, every word measured.
