Chapter 1395: Chapter 593: Suppressing the Rebellion (Part 3)

During the rebellion in the Old Musillon Territory, a vast collection of gold, silver, and jewels was seized from the baggage and personal belongings of these rebellious peasants, totaling over seven thousand Gold Crowns.

These rebel stores had been plundered for many years, clearly attracting the covetous eyes of many local nobles. Recently, quite a few nobles have approached Laine, pleading that the money was originally taken from them by the rebellious peasants, hoping Laine would return it to them.

They are indeed overthinking; if they couldn’t protect it themselves, don’t blame me for not returning it.

With a grand stroke of his pen, Laine defined this substantial sum of gold and silver as ”seized assets.”

Aside from the one thousand Gold Crowns given to Count Durin and Count Larot for their prompt response and personal leadership of their knights in coordinated combat, the rest of the money was used for resettling refugees and surrendered rebel peasants, restoring production, and controlling the situation. In this way, Laine did not need to withdraw extra funds from his own small treasury to solve these issues.

In general, this rebellion suppression was successful, and as the initial battle after the establishment of the Old Guard, this fight had to be won. Just as Laine desired, this battle began to establish the invincible image of the Old Guard.

This is crucial for Laine’s future plans, as the Old Guard, being his facade and a military force he personally established, has to possess both formidable combat prowess, unwavering fighting spirit, and a winning mentality.

Therefore, Laine selected the rebellious peasants for the Old Guard’s first battle.

The Old Guard is indeed elite and has indeed fought countless victories alongside Laine throughout their journey, but Laine knows well that one shouldn’t be reckless just because this army is elite, has rich combat experience, and is well-equipped, otherwise...

It’s just like the story of the fastest donkey cart on Gaoliang River.

That Iron Army, which had consecutively overthrown several nations post-establishment, had its backbone snapped on the spot, and thereafter faced northern armies without any psychological advantage. Despite the loss in that battle not being significant, what was lost far exceeded the simple casualties of tens of thousands.

The subsequent Yongxi Northern Expedition was a continuation of this evil consequence. The frightened Zhao the Second squandered most of the twenty thousand elite Imperial Guards Zhao the First left him, and then, during the battle at Junzi Hall, Zhao the Second’s repeated command blunders led to the complete loss of the last elite Imperial Guards, ultimately wiping out all elite Imperial Guards cultivated by Zhao the First at the start of his reign, from then on never daring to dream of recovering Yan Yun.

Laine thought to himself it’s not surprising that Zhao the Second began to slack off and desperately compromise with the literati, for the army was lost. If he didn’t lick the literati’s boots to keep them happy, maybe one day even the Emperor would be replaced, and it’s well-known that Zhao the Second’s legal legitimacy was questionable, he’s not firmly proclaiming it! The literati most enjoy exploiting this point to stir up trouble.

(By the way, it was from this moment onward that military generals were completely oppressed, the dominance of literature over military was permanently established. During the reign of Zhao the First, military generals still had relatively high status and certain autonomy.)

So, what’s the situation with Laine now?

Laine’s situation now is akin to Zhao the Second’s, who after the great victory at Gaoliang River, successfully recaptured Yan Yun (Musillon)!

At this point, no one in the entire Kingdom could oppose him, or dare to oppose him. Even when he reached for the indomitable noble system, the two Counts of Old Musillon could only accept it through gritted teeth.

Because they have no choice but to accept it, otherwise, there are plenty who want to become Counts.

Sulk if you don’t like it!

But Laine knows he still needs to be cautious; just a single defeat would revert everything back to its original state, and his years of painstaking efforts would wash away.

After pondering for a while, the Dark Elf walked in from outside: ”Master, Her Highness Mogiana has returned from Kulona. She says she has matters to discuss with you.”

”Mogiana has returned?”
